Chapter 265: A Smile of "Affection"
On Tuesday, it rained for the first time in a long while.
Since the umbrella wasn't big enough, Qiao Sang put Fangy away in the Beastmaster Codex and walked to school.
The sky was overcast, and pedestrians hurried along, their umbrellas tapping against the puddles on the road. However, they all slowed down and turned to look curiously at a particular spot.
"Uncle Yang, we haven't reached the school yet. Do you want to come out and get some fresh air?" Qiao Sang, feeling the gazes of almost all the passersby, couldn't help but ask.
Next to her, an umbrella was suspended about two meters high, but there was no one under it—this was the main reason for the pedestrians' curiosity.
"Rah..."
Nilaro, maintaining the umbrella-holding pose, appeared and called out, then turned invisible again.
"Xunxun~"
Treasure Seeker, very perceptive, acted as an interpreter on its Beastmaster's head.
Qiao Sang's lips twitched at Treasure Seeker's words.
Good grief, Nilaro had actually fallen asleep inside the Beastmaster Codex...
When they were about 100 meters away from Holy Water High School, Qiao Sang called out to Nilaro, "If you go in like this, you'll be exposed. Wait until the rain stops or the people at the school gate leave before you come in to find me. Remember, I'm in Class 1, Grade 1."
"Rah..."
Nilaro appeared and nodded.
After giving her instructions, Qiao Sang, feeling reassured, continued walking with her umbrella. Nilaro was a General-Class familiar, and she trusted it completely.
Unbeknownst to her, Nilaro stood dumbfounded for nearly a minute after she left, a puzzled expression on its face.
"Rah..."
What class was that again...
At 9:30 AM, the second class ended, and Qiao Sang glanced out the window and around the classroom.
The rain had stopped over forty minutes ago, and by now, Nilaro should have been in the classroom. However, it hadn't made a single sound during the previous class, and Qiao Sang inwardly praised it.
No wonder it's a General-Class familiar; its stealth is impressive!
"Uncle Yang, are you there?" Qiao Sang whispered, resting her head on her hand on the desk.
There was no response.
Qiao Sang understood, "I get it. It's not convenient to talk right now. If you're here, just make my pen move on the desk."
"What are you talking about?" Jin Fanfei, who was sitting next to her, suddenly asked.
Qiao Sang acted as if nothing was happening and sat up straight, answering, "I'm just reciting the content the teacher just covered to reinforce my knowledge."
"Reviewing past College Entrance Exam papers, there's a 93% chance that what we covered in the last class won't be on the exam", Jin Fanfei thought for a moment and said, "But it might be on the monthly test, so it's not a bad idea to memorize it."
Qiao Sang was taken aback, "We're only in Grade 1, and you've already studied past College Entrance Exam papers?"
Jin Fanfei blushed slightly, embarrassed, "I believe in efficiency. We shouldn't waste time on things that aren't meaningful. If we know the types of questions the College Entrance Exam likes to ask, we can focus more time on them during our studies."
Qiao Sang gave a thumbs up, "Impressive!"
Just then, a boy with a buzz cut ran into the classroom and excitedly said from the podium, "Guess what happened in the Junior Year just now?"
"What happened?"
"How would we know?"
"Stop being mysterious, just tell us!"
"Hurry up, class is about to start!"
The classmates chattered, their attention focused on the boy.
Qiao Sang also looked over.
Every class had its own "gossip master", who would always be the first to know about school rumors. Zhang Shuzhou, their class's "gossip master", had contributed quite a few school gossip items in the month since school started.
Zhang Shuzhou scanned the room and, without further ado, grinned and said, "I don't know whose familiar was sneaking around, but it managed to eat all the snacks hidden in each Junior Year class. The school leaders are now investigating, and they're probably in big trouble."
Invisibility?
Qiao Sang immediately reached up to touch her head.
Phew, it's not Treasure Seeker...
"Qiao Sang, is your Treasure Seeker around? Has it been causing any trouble?" Jin Fanfei leaned in and asked in a low voice.
Qiao Sang: "..."
"Xun..."
...
6:56 PM.
Skyview Manor, Room 1705.
"What?! You went to the Junior Year section?!" Qiao Sang asked, disbelief evident in her voice.
Yang Du smiled bitterly. "I overslept this morning. When I came out, I didn't see you, so I figured you were in class and didn't use my mobile phone to contact you. I asked Beanfluff, but it didn't know which class you were in. I assumed you were in Junior Year, so I went over there to look around."
He looked at Qiao Sang with a complex expression.
If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn't have believed that a Beastmaster with three familiars was just a first-year high school student.
What was even more unbelievable was that two of her familiars had already evolved to the Intermediate stage.
One was a Flame Listener, for which the Alliance hadn't even released an evolution plan, and the other was an Aquariana, a Beginner Beast on the brink of extinction...
Yang Du couldn't describe his current feelings. He had lived for decades in a world of praise, always believing his talent was exceptional.
But now, he felt his talent was utterly weak!
Qiao Sang tried to keep her tone normal. "I told Nilaro I was in Class 1, Grade 1."
"Ah, you might not know, but Laladi's forgetfulness is famous in the Xilu Region", Yang Du replied. "Even after evolving into Nilaro, it's still the same."
Qiao Sang: "???"
She didn't understand!
How could someone so forgetful still be so popular among novice Beastmasters?!
Qiao Sang suddenly remembered something and her lips twitched. "I heard that a familiar with Invisibility ate all the snacks in the Junior Year section. It couldn't have been Nilaro, right?"
"Nonsense!" Yang Du frowned and retorted. "Beanfluff only took a bit of food from the first two classes when I wasn't paying attention. It hasn't eaten anything else since!"
"Xun..."
Nilaro nodded slowly.
Qiao Sang: "..."
Sure enough, it was you...
After Yang Du promised that nothing like this would happen again, Qiao Sang went to the courtyard.
Fangy and the others had already started their training.
Fangy: Mars Rain.
Treasure Seeker: Tile Split.
Aquariana waited for Treasure Seeker to finish splitting the tiles.
Qiao Sang watched with satisfaction.
"Crack!"
The tiles shattered.
"Lulu." Aquariana immediately cast Healing Light.
Treasure Seeker, being healed, looked at its Beastmaster who had just appeared in the courtyard and remembered its mission. It wore an "I've got this" expression and secretly gave an OK sign where Aquariana couldn't see.
Qiao Sang was momentarily stunned by Treasure Seeker's actions and didn't quite understand its meaning.
"Xunxun~"
Treasure Seeker floated over to Fangy and started massaging its side with the paw that had just been bathed in Healing Light.
"Ya?"
Fangy turned and called out to Treasure Seeker, puzzled.
"Xun~"
Treasure Seeker flashed a smile it had just learned from playing on the mobile phone, a smile that said "I like you."
Qiao Sang: "..."
She didn't get it. Why was Treasure Seeker suddenly acting so sycophantic...
