Chapter 264: Wavering Mediator
Chapter 264: Wavering Mediator
"Dammit!"
"If I had known I’d run into this kind of trouble, I might as well have become a Messenger!"
In a corner of the Frozen City, Platinum Palace was rapidly retreating.
The Awakeners from Star Horn City derived their abilities from the core concept of 'Exchange.' Like the Messenger's communication with the outside world; the Mediator's interaction with intelligent life; or the Thinker's self-reflection.
While their essence shared commonalities, their specific tendencies varied.
Among them, the Mediator's ability lay in negotiation and support.
In a team, they could communicate well with their companions or use abilities such as reading expressions, limited mind-reading,, and guiding emotions to deal with intelligent creatures.
But solo combat was not their forte.
After being carried by a fierce wind through the dark streets to the edge of the Frozen City, Platinum Palace was extremely unlucky, to be surrounded by three Revivers.
These Revivers were at least Fourth Stage in strength.
Platinum Palace did his best to control a FifthStage Reviver, making it drag down the other enemies.
He himself, with his Essence nearly depleted, stumbled backward in retreat.
A few minutes passed.
In front of Platinum Palace was the glacier, radiating a chilling aura.
He knew the danger it posed and naturally dared not to approach.,. But when he looked back, the distorted figures of the Revivers were already appearing on the city’s streets!
"They’re catching up so fast!"
Platinum Palace's pupils constricted.
The Mediator's ability allowed him to see through the hearts of others, even if they were Revivers, they could not escape this ability.
"They want to toy with me before killing me."
"The Reviver I controlled earlier... has already had its neck twisted and been thrown aside!"
Platinum Palace’s feet did not stop, and his fists clenched tighter.
He barely complained about Lindsey and Hong's actions, which had dragged him into this perilous situation.
After all, without the support of these two, Platinum Palace and his companions would have lost their lives long ago under the Revivers' assault.
However, the current situation, and the helplessness in strength, indeed enveloped the heart of this Mediator.
His brows furrowed as he ran along the glacier wall toward the other end of the city.
He muttered to himself, "Dammit, if I were SixthStage..."
Platinum Palace's voice suddenly stopped.
If his ability had advanced to the SixthStage, the Mediator's powerful dominion ability could indeed control these Revivers.
But this power would also be noticed by the Dark Abyss underground and the Black Mountain above.
In front of two SeventhStage enemies—
"When we set out, didn’t the Astrologer say I would live for many more years?"
"How inaccurate this prediction is!"
Platinum Palace complained during his escape.
Suddenly, a figure darted out from the city beside him.
He directly blocked the Mediator, a twisted smile appearing on his face, which was covered in rotting flesh:
"Human, where are you going?"
"Zombie..."
Platinum Palace's expression changed, and he hurriedly stopped.
He gripped his weapon and subtly rubbed the ring on his right middle finger.
It contained the Radiant Flame of an Ancestor Worshipper.
This could definitely deal significant damage to a Fifth-stage enemy, but it was also his last trump card.
Now... should he use it here?
"Human, you are a Mediator, aren't you?"
At this moment, the Reviver who had blocked Platinum Palace spoke.
He did not immediately attack but instead looked at the human with interest:
"I remember your abilities, reading minds and interfering with thoughts."
"We welcome talents like you!"
"If you surrender, then the outcome won’t be a mindless corpse lying in the cold darkness forever."
"..."
Platinum Palace's heart inevitably wavered.
First and foremost, he didn't want to die, an instinct shared by all living beings, one that no one could escape.
The second reason was the Reviver before him.
Through the Mediator's psychological insight, he could confirm that this person was different from the previous Reviver; they weren't deceiving or mocking him but genuinely wanted him to join their faction!
If it could be guaranteed...
Slap!
Suddenly, the Reviver blocking Platinum Palace's path fell to the ground.
Platinum Palace, torn with inner conflict, turned around and saw a familiar figure quietly emerging from the nearby city.
"Mr. Lindsey?!"
Platinum Palace's internal struggle vanished.
If given a choice, he certainly didn't want to betray humanity!
The Mediator rushed towards Lindsey as if grasping at a final lifeline, his voice trembling with excitement:
"You're nearby, that's wonderful!"
"This isn't the place to talk," Lindsey said without hesitation, pounding a hole in the ground, "Let's go down first and discuss the rest later."
Platinum Palace jumped into the tunnel without hesitation.
Before leaving the surface, his final gaze caught Lindsey once again drawing the bowstring.
The flaming arrow ignited the Reviver's corpse on the ground.
Several other arrows were shot towards the chasing zombies in the distance, followed by a painful roar.
"..."
A few minutes later.
Lindsey also jumped into the tunnel and raised his hand to fill in the hole above.
The surroundings instantly plunged into complete darkness, and Platinum Palace inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a sense of relief in this pitch-blackness!
Hoo—
The torch was lit in the dark underground.
Platinum Palace saw Lindsey's figure; this young man with an unknown profession had an unwavering expression and was firmly digging a path.
Platinum Palace watched Lindsey's unyielding demeanor.
The Mediator's essence was almost depleted, leaving him powerless to understand the other's thoughts, but even this expression conveyed the other's determination.
He couldn't help but speak up to confirm:
"Mr. Lindsey, I think we should reconsider our strategy!"
"A battle between two Stage Seven powerhouses is not something we can intervene in. Going there is just seeking death."
Lindsey continued digging the tunnel, his tone resolute as he replied:
"If we stay here and do nothing, waiting for them to determine a winner, we won't have a way out either."
"Or do you, Mr. Platinum Palace, have a way for us to escape?"
The Mediator was momentarily lost for words:
"I..."
The instinct to seek safety made him want to avoid danger.
But as Lindsey said, this delaying tactic would eventually lead to the same fate of being hunted down by a Stage Seven powerhouse.
"Mr. Platinum Palace, have you read the biographies of those legendary heroes?"
Lindsey suddenly asked.
Platinum Palace thought about it, but he couldn't recall any biography in the Stellar Calendar where a Stage Five Awakener had defeated a Stage Seven powerhouse.
That was a myth from ancient times.
"Mr. Lindsey, are you telling me a myth?"
Lindsey didn't answer directly:
"On the path forward."
"Sometimes, the courage to challenge despair is the most critical element."
Platinum Palace lowered his gaze and shook his head slightly:
"How can we, as weak and ordinary people, compare ourselves to those mythical heroes?"
"..."
Lindsey didn't respond.
He continued swinging the Meteor Hammer, observing the surroundings on the map.
The changes were faster than imagined!
In just a few minutes, a green dot appeared from the glacier's location and approached their position!
"From the glacier?"
Lindsey was suspicious but immediately dug out an upward slope.
After the Frozen City's ground was excavated, he saw the other's figure and exclaimed in surprise:
"Oma?"
"How did you come from that side?!"
