Chapter 261: Surprises from the Disciples
Chapter 261: Surprises from the Disciples
"Wonderful! It's the Clone Technique; cloning is my forte."
"What bad luck, why isn't it the Transformation Technique?"
"Darn it, I've been practicing the Replacement Technique lately, and it just so happens to be the Cloning Technique on the exam."
Such discussions erupted in the classroom after Ikkyuuyou announced the exam topic.
"The Clone Technique? That's easy. I'm definitely getting a perfect score this time." A smile appeared on Obito's face. He had mastered even the Shadow Clone Technique, let alone the basic Clone Technique that didn't create physical entities.
"Luck favors the diligent." Might Guy pumped his fist and smiled as well. The Clone Technique was one of the few basic ninjutsu he excelled at.
Haru Rin didn't feel anything special. Her proficiency in basic ninjutsu was well-rounded, so it made little difference to her which technique was tested.
"Quiet down, I'm going to start calling out names now," Ikkyuuyou said, gesturing for the students to calm down.
"Ichian Mui."
The student whose name was called stood up quickly and followed Ikkyuuyou to the next classroom.
A few minutes later, Ikkyuuyou and another proctor returned to the room with smiles on their faces.
"Everyone, keep up the good work! Ichian has already graduated successfully, so don't let him outshine you."
Students who had completed their exams were not allowed to return to the classroom to maintain a quiet environment.
After sharing this good news, Ikkyuuyou continued to call out the next student's name.
"Might Guy."
Hearing his name, Guy stood up and walked towards the door. Ikkyuuyou led him to the adjacent classroom.
Guy surveyed the room; it was spacious, with only two chairs and a table, on which numerous ninja headbands were placed.
"Take your time, Guy. There's no need to be nervous. The exam will officially start in a minute and a half," Ikkyuuyou said with a kind smile.
When he first took over Class 4-2, he thought he was unlucky to have Obito and Guy, the school's infamous troublemakers, in his class.
However, after the first exam, he realized his good fortune. Thanks to Guy and Obito, he successfully earned the title of Excellent Teacher in his teaching career. Naturally, he felt grateful to the students who brought him this luck and was very amicable towards them.
"Huff, huff," Guy nodded and took a deep breath, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
Today, he would take a solid step towards becoming the strongest taijutsu user and officially become a ninja!
"You may begin now. The technique is the Clone Technique," Ikkyuuyou said, reminding Guy of the topic in case he forgot.
"Clone Technique!"
Guy performed the hand seals steadily, channeling his chakra to use one of the few ninjutsu he had learned.
As Guy executed the technique, three identical clones appeared beside him, mirroring his every move.
Ikkyuuyou examined Guy's clones carefully and nodded in satisfaction before lowering his head to record Guy's score.
Generally, creating one clone that resembled the original was considered a passing grade. The more clones one could create, the higher the score. Additionally, the more similar the clones were to the original in terms of appearance and other aspects, the higher the score would be.
In fact, Ikkyuuyou was quite surprised to see Guy's level of proficiency in the Clone Technique.
He knew Guy was strong, but Guy had never used ninjutsu in combat, not even once. He had even considered asking the Hokage to make a special exception for Guy's graduation if he truly couldn't perform ninjutsu. However, seeing Guy's performance, he knew he wouldn't have to go through that trouble.
"Very good, Guy. You've passed. Congratulations on graduating and becoming a genin," Ikkyuuyou said, picking up a forehead protector and smiling at Guy.
Guy walked forward to receive the headband and celebrated by punching the air. "To celebrate my graduation, I must double my training today!"
Ikkyuuyou found this a bit odd. Usually, students would take a break from training to celebrate, but Guy seemed to have it the other way around.
"Perhaps that's why his taijutsu surpasses his peers by such a large margin," Ikkyuuyou thought to himself.
"You can't return to the classroom now. If you have friends you want to wait for, you can do so outside the school building," Ikkyuuyou reminded Guy.
The entire Ninja Academy was in the midst of exams, so students weren't allowed to loiter in the corridors.
Guy flashed a broad smile, his white teeth shining, and nodded before heading outside the school building.
Time passed, and the classroom gradually emptied, but Obito's turn seemed to be taking forever.
"Haru Rin."
Hearing this name, Obito thought to himself, "Finally, it's almost my turn. My student ID number is right after Rin's. After her, it'll be me."
A few minutes later, Chigayuu returned, and Obito finally heard his name being called.
"Uchiha Obito."
Obito quickly stood up and followed Chigayuu out of the classroom.
"You have a minute and a half to prepare. The topic is the Clone Technique. If you feel ready, you may begin early." Chigayuu reminded with a smile.
He wasn't worried about Obito's performance at all. Compared to taijutsu, Obito was more skilled in ninjutsu.
"I can start now; I don't need any preparation." Obito replied confidently.
It was just the Clone Technique, and he didn't feel the need to prepare for it.
He had already waited long enough and just wanted to finish the exam and become an official ninja.
"Very well, then. The exam begins now." Chigayuu agreed with Obito's request.
"Clone Technique!"
Obito quickly formed the hand seals, and the classroom instantly filled with white smoke.
Bang, bang!!
In an instant, eight identical clones of Obito appeared, each mirroring his every move and maintaining the hand seal posture.
"As expected of him." Chigayuu examined each clone and nodded inwardly.
Creating eight clones in one go, and each one identical to the original—this ninjutsu foundation deserved a perfect score without a doubt.
Moreover, Obito's perfect score was different from that of others. Others could only achieve a maximum score of 100, but for Obito, 100 was the maximum achievable score in the Ninja Academy.
"Excellent Clone Technique, Obito. You've passed. Congratulations on graduating and becoming a genin." After grading Obito's performance, Chigayuu picked up a forehead protector and smiled at him.
"Teacher Chigayuu, do you know who I'll be in the same class with?" Obito asked as he took the forehead protector from Chigayuu.
Chigayuu shook his head and said, "The student list will be submitted to the higher-ups for them to decide on the class allocations. I'll only know once the list is sent back down."
The class divisions in the Ninja Academy were decided by the Hokage, so he usually only found out a day earlier than the students.
"I see. Then, goodbye, Teacher Chigayuu." Obito waved goodbye to Chigayuu.
"Teacher Chigayuu, your lectures are really boring. You should learn more from Teacher Mu Yue," Obito teased as he reached the door, then ran out of the building.
He had wanted to complain about this for a long time and finally found the opportunity to do so.
"This kid." Chigayuu showed an embarrassed smile.
"After all, he has been interning with Teacher Mu Yue for so long. It's normal for him to think I'm not good enough compared to her." Chigayuu quickly calmed down. If he were to be compared with Mu Yue, then no teacher in the entire Ninja Academy would be considered competent.
As Mu Yue gradually displayed her strength, her image in the eyes of others gradually changed. Initially, she was known for her good temper and popularity among students. Then, it was recognized that she was very capable in teaching. And with the latest issue of the Konoha Newspaper, her ninja abilities had also surpassed the expectations of many teachers.
However, no matter how much she changed, Mu Yue's initial gentleness and friendliness remained at her core. The more she displayed her abilities, the more humble and low-key she appeared.
After Obito ran out of the teaching building, he saw Haruno Rin and Might Guy waiting for him outside.
"Little Rin, Guy," Obito greeted them while waving his forehead protector.
"Obito, aren't you afraid of dropping and dirtying your forehead protector if you swing it like that?" Haruno Rin replied and reminded him. She had already put on her own.
"It's fine. Even if I drop it, I'll definitely be able to catch it." Obito said nonchalantly, but when he saw that Haruno Rin had already put on her forehead protector, he prepared to wear his as well.
Obito was quick, but because he was in a hurry, he put it on crookedly.
"You've put it on crooked. Let me help you." Haruno Rin walked in front of Obito and adjusted the position of his forehead protector as she noticed it was askew.
As Haruno Rin's face came closer, her clear and sparkling eyes seemed to magnify in Obito's line of sight, causing his face to flush, and he unconsciously took a few steps back.
"Really, don't fidget." Haruno Rin said helplessly with her hand on her hip.
"I did it on purpose to make it more unique." Obito's face turned slightly red as he explained.
"Alright then, but when you go to meet your homeroom teacher after the class allocations are announced, be sure to wear it properly and make a good impression on your teacher." Haruno Rin stopped and said to Obito.
"But if that's the case, it means Little Rin pays a lot of attention to me," Tobirama thought happily.
"If you had a really strict teacher, they might care," Haruno Rin believed that one should always strive to do their best, no matter how minor the task.
"Alright, I will." Seeing how serious Haruno Rin was, Tobirama stopped arguing and agreed.
As the group wandered around the school, they ran into Mu Yue.
"Congratulations! Starting today, you are officially Konoha ninjas." Mu Yue looked at the forehead protectors on Haruno Rin and Tobirama's heads and the one on Might Guy's waist, knowing that they had passed their graduation exams.
"Hehe, thanks to your teachings, Teacher Mu Yue. Before, I could only create one clone, and I wasn't even sure if I could pass the exam." Tobirama grinned in gratitude towards Mu Yue.
His strength had truly skyrocketed this semester. He had learned several Fire Style jutsu, awakened his Sharingan, and he felt that he could easily defeat ten of himself from the beginning of the fourth grade.
Might Guy nodded in agreement, giving Mu Yue a thumbs-up. "Although ninjutsu is difficult, it becomes much easier with your guidance, Teacher Mu Yue."
Without Mu Yue, he didn't think he could have performed the Clone Technique to create three identical clones.
All three disciples expressed their gratitude for Mu Yue's teachings, knowing that they wouldn't have achieved their current strength without her.
Mu Yue smiled gently and said, "You've all worked hard, too. I can teach, but it's up to you to learn and improve."
At that moment, Tobirama couldn't wait to bring Mu Yue to the location of the gratitude meeting and present her with the gift he had carefully prepared.
Mu Yue had given them so much, yet she always emphasized their hard work, making Tobirama feel deeply indebted to her.
However, he knew it wasn't the right time yet, as Itachi still had his exam, and they had planned to hold the gratitude meeting in the evening.
"Teacher Mu Yue, do you have time now? I want to go to the Southern Forest to train," Tobirama said after some thought.
Now that they had graduated, there wouldn't be much time left to train with Mu Yue once they were assigned to their new classes, so he wanted to make use of this opportunity.
"Then let's go together." Mu Yue nodded in agreement.
He didn't have to proctor exams, and aside from Tobirama's group's graduation exam, he didn't have anything else planned for the day. He would probably have been researching sealing jutsu at home otherwise.
Might Guy and Haruno Rin also joined them on their trip to the Southern Forest.
When they arrived, they saw Kakashi training with Mu Yue's shadow clone. Upon seeing Mu Yue's true body and Tobirama's group, Kakashi paused his training and greeted them.
"Hmph, Kakashi, don't call me an intern ninja anymore. I'm an official ninja now," Tobirama boasted as soon as he arrived, eager to show off his newly acquired ninja forehead protector.
"Oh, hello there, Tobirama the genin. From now on, address me as Kakashi the Jonin, for I have attained the rank of a middle ninja," Kakashi said nonchalantly, pointing to the jonin vest he was wearing.
When it came to ninja ranks, he was undoubtedly the frontrunner.
Tobirama: ...
"It's just a jonin. I'm sure I'll become one soon enough," Tobirama said after a moment of silence, unable to bring himself to call Kakashi "Kakashi-san." That would be more painful than killing him.
"You two, honestly," Haruno Rin sigamed and shook her head at their bickering.
"Whether jonin or genin, both of you listen up! It's time to train, and I'm your teacher now," Mu Yue said, first poking Tobirama's head with her finger and then using her Piercing Wave technique to strike Kakashi from a distance.
Kakashi felt a transparent force strike his forehead and wondered what to say. His teacher had just used such an advanced technique to discipline him.
"Yes, Teacher!" Tobirama was used to this and didn't feel a thing. In fact, he even had the cheek to play dead.
What followed was their usual training routine. Itachi had just returned from his exam and hadn't trained for long when Mu Yue announced that it was time to wrap up.
However, the disciples didn't disperse as they usually did. Instead, they surrounded Mu Yue.
"Teacher Mu Yue, can you close your eyes? We have a surprise for you," Tobirama said, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Sure," Mu Yue smiled and closed her eyes, confident that her Clairvoyance technique would alert her to any danger.
