Chapter 261: Heavenly Waves, Terrifying Treasure Body
Chapter 261: Heavenly Waves, Terrifying Treasure Body
Seeing Lu Lingjun wave him over, Gu An had no choice but to approach. He bowed respectfully to the Western Spirit Holy Mother, as he was still an Immortal Disciple and had to maintain appearances.
The Western Spirit Holy Mother nodded slightly but remained silent.
Lu Lingjun, however, took Gu An by the hand and led him away. After descending from the Heaven-Repairing Platform, Lu Lingjun took a storage bag from her sash and handed it to him.
"I won't be returning to the Medicine Valley. This is something I brought back from my travels overseas," Lu Lingjun said softly.
Gu An nodded, not pressing her on what she planned to do next. He simply told her to reach out to him at the Third Medicine Valley if she ever needed his help.
Lu Lingjun smiled and then left with the Western Spirit Holy Mother.
Gu An watched Lu Lingjun's retreating figure, thinking that she must be distancing herself from the Third Medicine Valley.
It made sense; as the leader of a sect, she couldn't possibly live in the Medicine Valley, let alone have her Immortal Disciple teacher live among the miscellaneous disciples.
The Blood Prison Great Sage approached, inwardly amazed.
His master claimed to be an Immortal Disciple, yet even an Immortal Disciple couldn't lift his Heaven-Cleaving Axe.
He didn't ask more questions. The stronger Gu An became, the better. This proved that his current predicament was a blessing, not a curse.
Gu An turned and left, intending to wander around the outer city.
He could sense that the Western Spirit Holy Mother's visit was aimed at the Dao-Supporting Sword Venerable. Earlier, when he mentioned the Heaven-Cleaving Axe, it was to contact the Dao-Supporting Sword Venerable.
However, he had no intention of meeting the Western Spirit Holy Mother.
It didn't take much guessing; it was likely related to the Great Rift of the Broken Sea.
Over the past decade, the chaos caused by the Great Rift of the Broken Sea had only grown. Besides the mysterious fiends, a new entity known as the Divine Grievance Ghost had emerged from the Great Rift.
The Divine Grievance Ghosts were immortal and could only be sealed away. Already, one sect had been wiped out.
Most terrifying was the tale of a Wandering Immortal from the Star Sea Sect who ventured into the Great Rift of the Broken Sea and transformed into a Divine Grievance Ghost. Upon returning to the sea, he wreaked havoc, slaughtering countless lives. The Star Sea Sect was forced to use a divine treasure to suppress him.
Rumors about the Great Rift of the Broken Sea began to spread. Li Ya, the owner of the Divine City, also faced pressure. Many wanted to seize his Divine City, but the Star Sea Sect was strong enough to protect him. However, he lost his freedom and could no longer leave the Star Sea Sect on his own.
While the sea was a scene of blood and thunder, the mainland remained peaceful and harmonious, at least within the TaiXuan Gate.
Gu An met up with friends in the outer city for drinks, discussing the interesting events to come or the scandalous affairs of the sect's nobility.
The current TaiXuan Gate was much more open-minded, unlike in the past when even the slightest whisper about a great cultivator could bring retribution. Now, the noble families cherished their reputations, fearing any blemish that might get them expelled from the TaiXuan Gate.
With the presence of the Dao-Supporting Sword Venerable, the TaiXuan Gate had to adhere to the righteous path.
Of course, this only applied within the TaiXuan Gate. If one offended a noble cultivator, they might not act within the sect, but outside the TaiXuan Gate, anything was possible.
By nightfall, Gu An returned to the valley on the Blood Prison Great Sage, holding a wine gourd and reciting poetry. The Blood Prison Great Sage listened and praised the poems, much to Gu An's amusement.
Gu An thought the Blood Prison Great Sage had a keen eye, willing to praise even the worst poetry. Wasn't that a kind of realm in itself?
...
The arrival of the Western Spirit Holy Mother didn't cause much of a stir in the TaiXuan Gate. The sect's strength was rapidly growing, and if she hadn't come to seek refuge from the TaiXuan Gate, they wouldn't have made such a fuss.
Another summer had arrived.
Gu An lay under the Clear Essence Tree, examining his attribute panel.
His lifespan had reached 25 million years. Though still far from 100 million years, this number gave him a sense of security.
The White Spirit Mouse and the Blood Prison Great Sage were playing nearby. The White Spirit Mouse couldn't yet speak, but its maximum lifespan kept increasing, and its reaction speed was so fast that even the Blood Prison Great Sage, at the Foundation Establishment stage, couldn't keep up.
Boom!
A deafening sound echoed from the distance, startling everyone in the Medicine Valley.
The Blood Prison Great Sage and the White Spirit Mouse stopped playing, turning their heads toward the horizon, their expressions tense.
The Nine-Fingered Immortal, who was playing chess, frowned and turned to look. His divine sense probed the area, and his face quickly turned grim.
Gu An, however, remained calm. He had been examining his attribute panel because he sensed something significant was about to happen.
Before the massive sound, a powerful force had erupted from the bottom of the Great Rift of the Broken Sea, causing the sides of the rift to surge with massive waves. The wave heading toward the mainland was already 300 zhang high and growing stronger.
Many cultivators were rushing to prevent this catastrophe.
Gu An sensed a large amount of strange energy emerging from the depths of the Great Rift of the Broken Sea. They must be the Divine Grievance Ghosts.
Rewritten Text
The Divine Vengeful Spirits are distinct from the Spirit Anomalies in Sacred Haven City. They possess their own essence and retain memories from their past lives, but their personalities have drastically changed. They now slaughter any living essence they encounter, contributing to the turmoil in the mystical cultivation world.
The power of the Divine Vengeful Spirits is not the most alarming aspect; it's the fact that they retain their essence and memories, and are all on a path of enmity with living essence. How could anyone not fear that? With essence, they can establish rules and even have the potential to Overturn the Mortal Realm!
Gu An sat up abruptly. He couldn't be too casual; everyone in the valley was shocked, so he needed to act accordingly.
He wasn't sure if vanquishing Divine Vengeful Spirits would extend one's lifespan, but if it did, intervening early wouldn't be a bad idea.
Yang Jian hurried over and stood beside him, whispering, "Master, I just had a hallucination. I saw many demons and monsters rushing towards me."
Fear flashed in his eyes; it wasn't just a hallucination. He felt as if he had experienced death.
In the darkness, it seemed as if some terrifying presence was approaching him.
Gu An looked at Yang Jian and suddenly noticed that his Karmic Threads had become blurry. He could no longer trace Yang Jian's past through Karmic Threads.
"Don't worry. Stay by my side, and nothing will happen. Focus on your cultivation," Gu An reassured him.
In truth, he wasn't sure why this was happening either. Though he was a Transcendent Immortal, he had only lived for 166 years and knew little about the world.
He could see through the Celestial Rules, but he was far from omniscient.
He guessed that Yang Jian's hallucination was related to his Innate Constitution. After all, the Sage Seeker had mentioned that Yang Jian was a precious constitution from ancient times.
Hearing Gu An's reassurance, Yang Jian immediately felt at ease.
With his master around, nothing bad could happen to him.
Then, Gu An headed towards where his disciples had gathered, preparing to discuss the matter with them to maintain his image as a Core Formation Cultivator.
...
Noon.
Sage Seeker's Isle
In a courtyard, the Sage Seeker looked at Gu An with a peculiar expression.
He poured Gu An a cup of wine and asked, "How did you know I was here, Daoist Meng?"
He had been back on Sage Seeker's Isle for many years but had always stayed in his mansion, avoiding public appearances.
Gu An replied, "I knew you were back when you first arrived. Many people knew about it back then. I came to find you today because my disciple is in trouble."
Hearing that it involved Yang Jian, the Sage Seeker immediately dismissed any concerns about how Gu An knew he was on the isle. He pressed for more details.
Gu An didn't hide anything.
After listening, the Sage Seeker's expression became complicated. He said thoughtfully, "Ancient precious constitutions have a self-protection instinct. His constitution must have sensed danger, likely related to the Great Rift in the Shattered Sea. There might be another precious constitution inside, and I've heard that ancient precious constitutions have a competitive and sensing relationship, especially those that are innate. They can sense each other's presence and want to devour one another."
"If that precious constitution is indeed from the Great Rift, it's likely a dead ancient strongman who has transformed into a Divine Vengeful Spirit. If that's the case, we're in for a major problem."
He had returned to Sage Seeker's Isle to avoid calamities.
At this moment, he even considered leaving the isle because he was worried that Gu An had brought Yang Jian.
Admiration was one thing, but the Sage Seeker wouldn’t risk his life for Yang Jian.
He wasn’t his disciple!
Even if he were, he could abandon him!
The Sage Seeker looked at Gu An, wanting to say something but stopped. He thought it would be pointless to advise Gu An to abandon Yang Jian, as Gu An would weigh the options himself, and saying it would only irritate him.
Gu An pondered for a moment.
The sea waves that had erupted yesterday continued to rise, and the cultivators couldn’t stop them. A powerful force hid within the waves, nullifying any spiritual or magical barriers in their path.
After one day, the waves had already surpassed a thousand zhang in height.
A thousand-zhang wave was incredibly overwhelming, swallowing countless isles in its path.
Even the Stellar Sea Sect's itinerant immortals couldn’t hold back the waves.
Seeing Gu An in deep thought, the Sage Seeker didn’t disturb him, contentedly sipping his wine.
After a while, Gu An thanked the Sage Seeker and stood up to leave.
The Sage Seeker didn’t try to retain him, as Gu An’s information had given him more to think about.
The thought of a fully developed ancient precious constitution about to emerge sent shivers down his spine.
No, he had to run!
