Chapter 260: Beauxbatons Students
Chapter 260: Beauxbatons Students
"There's almost no chance of that."
Dumbledore gave Sherlock this answer.
"After being caught by Mad-Eye Moody, he betrayed all the information he knew about the hidden Death Eaters to avoid prison. This was a blatant act of betrayal against Voldemort, far worse than what Lucius and others did. From what I know of him, Voldemort would not forgive such behavior. Even if he did, the Death Eaters who were arrested due to Karkaroff's betrayal would not forgive him."
"Karkaroff is not a loyal person. His loyalty to Voldemort is not firm, yet he possesses all the evil of a Death Eater. By betraying his comrades to atone for his crimes, he avoided being sent to Azkaban. After that, he left Britain and went north. With the help of someone unknown, he eventually established himself at Durmstrang and even became the headmaster of the school. Now, the fact that the former Durmstrang headmaster was once a Death Eater is almost unknown."
"That's why I specifically arranged for Mad-Eye Moody to watch over him here at the castle."
Dumbledore's explanation made Sherlock slightly less wary of the man, but he did not completely let down his guard.
"Often, the people we least suspect are the ones who cause problems. We still need to keep an eye on him with Mad-Eye Moody."
After that, they discussed some more about the Triwizard Tournament, and Sherlock left the Headmaster's Office.
Three more days passed, and finally, on Friday, October 30th, the Great Hall of Hogwarts was completely transformed.
Huge silk banners hung on the walls, each representing one of Hogwarts' Houses: Gryffindor with its red background and golden lion, Ravenclaw with its blue background and bronze eagle, Hufflepuff with its yellow background and black badger, and Slytherin with its green background and silver serpent.
Behind the faculty, the largest banner bore the Hogwarts crest: a lion, eagle, badger, and serpent united around a large letter H.
No one was in the mood for lessons all day.
Sherlock, who was teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts to the fifth years, noticed the students' restlessness and decided to stop the lesson. Sitting at the front of the class, he continued the story of the ancient Eastern Defense Against the Dark Arts master, Sun Wukong, and his Muggle teacher, Tang Sanzang, on their journey around the world—a story he had been telling for two years and still hadn't finished.
The students in the castle loved this story, which they had never heard in the Wizarding World, despite having listened to it for two years and still not finishing it. They were still enthralled.
The Defense Against the Dark Arts class ended half an hour early, and it was now half past five, with another half hour to go before the arrival of the other two magical schools.
Under Professor Mcgonagall's organization, all the students of Hogwarts lined up neatly in front of the castle, ready to welcome the guests.
The professors, of course, were no exception. Sherlock and Silke stood with a group of professors behind the students, whispering to each other.
Although Portkeys and Apparition are both convenient, I'm sure neither school would choose such ordinary methods for their grand entrance. The Triwizard Tournament hasn't been held in so long, they'll definitely want to showcase their uniqueness.
During Harry's second-year summer vacation, I took him on a trip to France. While visiting the Beauxbatons magic house, we saw a massive carriage and a group of Hippogriffs dedicated to pulling it. I expect they'll use this method to make their entrance.
Silke listened expressionlessly, maintaining her distance. She had been persistent enough, and even now, she hadn't shown Sherlock any good will.
However, Sherlock's earnest explanation eventually received a response, though it came from the towering Professor of Magical Creatures, Hagrid, who was standing beside him.
"Oh! Are you sure, Sherlock? Hippogriffs! I've always wanted to see them, but there are no such magical creatures living in the British Isles."
"Of course, don't worry. If they really do arrive in a carriage pulled by Hippogriffs, then those Hippogriffs will definitely be entrusted to your care. You'll have plenty of time to get close to them."
Hagrid's face was filled with excitement. His anticipation for the Triwizard Tournament was no less than that of the students.
"Dumbledore told me that some big creatures will be coming to the Forbidden Forest in a while", he lowered his voice to a whisper, ensuring only they could hear. "I asked him what they were, but he didn't tell me. But I think it must be related to the upcoming tasks."
Hagrid often couldn't keep his mouth shut, and interesting secrets occasionally slipped out.
Just as they were whispering, a massive object, the size of a house, suddenly appeared in the sky!
Some students screamed that it was a fire dragon, but many could clearly see that it was actually a carriage as large as a palace!
Under the stunned gaze of the Hogwarts students, the carriage, pulled by twelve Hippogriffs with white wings, landed in front of them.
At this point, the students could see the full appearance of the carriage and the Beauxbatons magic school emblem on the door.
The door opened, and a boy jumped down first, setting up a golden spiral staircase connecting the carriage to the ground.
Madame Maxime, the current headmistress of Beauxbatons, gracefully descended from the carriage.
The young wizards of Hogwarts were all captivated by the headmistress. It was their first time seeing a witch of such enormous size!
Her height was comparable to Hagrid, who was already known as a small giant in the castle, but because she was a woman, she gave the students an even more surprising sense of her massive size.
Behind Madame Maxime, a dozen or so students, both male and female, followed. They all appeared to be around eighteen or nineteen years old and seemed to be struggling with the current British temperature, shivering slightly and wrapping their heads in scarves.
Among these students, one tall girl with bright green eyes stood out. As soon as she stepped off the carriage, she peeked out from behind Madame Maxime's massive frame, looking around the welcoming line as if searching for someone.
Soon, she spotted her target in the crowd and excitedly waved at someone standing in the professor's line from a distance.
