Chapter 259: I'd Like to Experience This Kind of Trouble Too
Chapter 259: I'd Like to Experience This Kind of Trouble Too
As the main character, Ivan appeared very calm. He had known about the Order of Merlin's award ceremony a few days ago, and at the beginning of the school year, he had even received a letter from the head of the Order of Merlin.
In fact, what surprised him more was that the award ceremony had been delayed for so long. The letter clearly stated it would be around Halloween.
Now it was April of the following year, and there were only two months left before the end of the school term.
On the platform, Dumbledore, after announcing this shocking news, waved his Wand, and the long tables of the four houses were instantly filled with various dishes.
"That's all I have to say. You can now begin your dinner", Dumbledore said to the young Wizards of the four houses, then returned to the faculty table.
However, the power of the food did not dampen everyone's enthusiasm, and the chatter continued.
After dinner, Ivan, Harry, and Ron returned to the Gryffindor common room together.
On the way, Ivan once again experienced the troubles of being a celebrity. He almost became the focus of everyone's attention, and wherever he went, he could hear people talking about his deeds.
Just before they reached the common room, a young witch he didn't know bumped into him. Ivan vaguely felt that she had slipped something into his arms before blushing and running away.
Ivan was puzzled and suddenly remembered that the young witch was the Slytherin girl he had saved.
After being possessed by Tom Riddle, she had been unconscious in the storage room of the Room of Requirement.
A few days ago, when Ivan left the Headmaster's Office, he had taken the girl to the hospital wing.
"What's this? A love letter?" Ivan took out the envelope from his arms, looked at it a few times, and said with a mix of amusement and exasperation.
Ivan shook his head. He had no intention of accepting it and planned to write a polite refusal later.
"You're really famous now!" Ron looked at Ivan with envy as he put the envelope away. When would he get such treatment?
"Fame isn't all that great. It brings a lot of trouble", Ivan complained.
Harry nodded in agreement, having deep personal experience with this.
Ron looked at his two friends with a strange expression, opened his mouth, but didn't know what to say. He would also like to experience this kind of trouble.
The next day, Ivan got up early and walked to the Great Hall, only to find that it had been completely transformed, decorated in a grand and luxurious manner.
The banners of the four houses fluttered in the air, and a bright red carpet was laid in the center of the hall, extending to the steps outside. Occasionally, golden and red light points sprinkled down onto the carpet, then disappeared without a trace.
More than a dozen ghosts were flying back and forth in the hall, looking very excited.
"Greetings, sir!" Nearly Headless Nick saw Ivan enter and came over to remove his hat in salute.
"Hello, sir!" Ivan nodded, not quite understanding why Nick was so respectful. Just as he was about to ask, he heard an annoying voice.
"Ha~ Look who's here!" Peeves flew around the castle with a peculiar tone, giggling.
"Ah, it's Hals. Can you tell me how it feels to have taken down two professors in a row? Who's next on your list?"
"I’m ready to deal with you next!" Ivan looked at him and pulled out his Wand from his sleeve.
Peeves's face changed as he remembered the Fear Spell Ivan had cast last year. He had been so scared that he hadn’t dared to come out for several days. Immediately, he darted away to a distance.
However, at that moment, a beam of white light flew out and hit him accurately. Peeves was horrified to find that he couldn’t speak.
Ivan turned his head curiously and saw that the spell had been cast by Professor Mcgonagall.
"Get lost, Peeves!" Professor Mcgonagall said sternly. "If you dare to cause trouble during the award ceremony later, I’ll lock you in a box!"
Peeves was frightened and nodded vigorously, then shot out of the Great Hall.
Professor Mcgonagall then turned to Ivan. "Alright, Hals, go eat quickly. You’ll be receiving an award soon."
Ivan nodded and walked towards the Gryffindor table.
At the same time, Ivan noticed that Professor Mcgonagall was wearing a luxurious red robe today, looking much younger than usual. The other professors sitting at the staff table were similarly dressed.
Ivan immediately realized that today’s award ceremony would not be as simple as he had thought, just receiving a medal and leaving.
Sure enough, after breakfast, Dumbledore walked in with a group of unfamiliar Wizards, engaging in conversation. Many more people followed, including some whom Ivan recognized as reporters from the Daily Prophet.
"How troublesome, couldn’t they just send the medal by post?" Ivan felt a headache coming on and sighed.
"How can that be? Awarding the Order of Merlin is a big deal! Not to mention that you, Ivan, are the youngest recipient in nearly a thousand years. No amount of attention is too much."
Hermione chattered excitedly, telling Ivan about the information she had found in books. Anyone who didn’t know better might have thought she was the one receiving the Order of Merlin.
Ivan wasn’t really listening, but he soon saw Dumbledore beckoning him over, so he got up and walked over.
Dumbledore introduced him to each of the Wizards, and Ivan learned that they were all members of the Order of Merlin, here to witness his award ceremony.
Ivan greeted each of them politely.
The Order of Merlin members were also very courteous in their responses. Everyone knew that this young Wizard had a bright future, and no one wanted to make themselves uncomfortable.
After a while, more and more people arrived, and the Great Hall became quite lively.
Ivan was worn out by the constant social interactions, as almost everyone came up to him and said a few words. This forced him to maintain a smile and chat with these supposedly famous Wizards.
He was never good at such socializing, so he generally just exchanged a few pleasantries and moved on.
At the Gryffindor table, Percy Weasley watched with envy as Ivan conversed with the important figures. He had been trying to find an opportunity to say a few words, but no one paid him any attention.
The award ceremony turned out to be simpler than Ivan had imagined, without too much formality.
However, he still had to read a long and tedious oath in public, as well as briefly describe his contributions to the Wizarding World.
Afterward, as the nominator, Dumbledore personally pinned the Order of Merlin, Second Class, on his chest, and the room erupted into loud applause.
