Chapter 258: The Lord of Pearl City, Michel
Chapter 258: The Lord of Pearl City, Michel
The main plot of this three-ring quest revolves around the city of Oran, which is struggling to sustain an army of 300,000. The city is in dire need of military supplies and food.
The only source of these essential resources is the city of Pearl, located in the southeast of the empire.
However, the land route between Oran and Pearl has been cut off by the rebels, and the waterway is blocked by the combined naval forces of the Rhein Empire and the Windchime Empire. Using the teleportation array comes at an exorbitant cost.
Thus, the responsibility of transporting these supplies falls on the players.
After all, players are cheap labor. The NPCs have discovered that as long as they offer a little bit of favor, players are more than willing to help, and not only do they do it for less money, but they also do it effectively.
...
Su Yu made a couple of announcements in the guild channel and the guild leader chat room, and before long, he had gathered a group of 20,000 players.
Snow Leopard didn't show up, but Range is Truth and True Red-Eyed Black Dragon did.
Su Yu handed the management of the players over to them. Then, everyone used the player-exclusive teleportation array to travel directly to Pearl City.
Upon arriving in Pearl City, the group mounted their steeds and, led by Su Yu, they set off in grand procession toward the Lord's Manor.
At the entrance of the manor, Su Yu asked the players to wait outside while he went in to meet the lord.
Pearl City, as the wealthiest city in the empire, lived up to its reputation. The interior of the Lord's Manor was extravagantly decorated. As Su Yu walked through, he saw sculptures crafted by dwarven masters, magical fountains made by elven artisans, and landscape paintings by pandaren. In comparison, the former Lord of Oran, Claude, seemed like a beggar.
Following the guards, Su Yu made his way deep into the manor.
In the deepest chamber, Su Yu met the Lord of Pearl City, Michel Delanc.
Michel Delanc was a half-elf lady, over 800 years old, but her appearance was that of an 18-year-old girl. Her pointed ears confirmed her half-elf heritage.
Su Yu had met Michel a few times before.
Back in Forest City, Su Yu had delivered a letter from Sivan to Michel. Michel had been present when Sivan usurped the throne and killed the king, so they could be considered old acquaintances.
Michel was well aware of Su Yu's standing in the princess's eyes. He was a man with the potential to become a prince!
So when she saw Su Yu, she greeted him enthusiastically, "Lord Krypton, what brings you here today? Is it on behalf of the princess?"
"Indeed, the princess asked me to deliver a letter to you," Su Yu said, taking the princess's personal letter from his backpack and handing it to Michel.
"The princess's letter?" Michel took the envelope and used a special spell to remove the magical seal before beginning to read the contents.
However, as she read, her smile quickly faded, replaced by a look of grave concern.
Su Yu sipped his tea and asked curiously, "Lord Michel, can you tell me what the letter says?"
"This..." Michel glanced at Su Yu.
After a brief moment of thought, she nodded. "If it were anyone else, I wouldn't say, but you... given your relationship with the princess, it's fine to tell you."
Michel used her mental powers to scan the surroundings, ensuring no one was listening, before she spoke. "The first part of the letter is about the transport of supplies."
"The princess has asked me to hand over the prepared supplies to you, the interworld adventurers, so you can bring them back to Oran."
Su Yu nodded. "And the second part?"
"The second part is classified," Michel leaned in close to Su Yu and whispered, "The princess plans to engage the rebels in a decisive battle!"
"A decisive battle?"
“Correct, Princess intends to rely on the defenses of Orlan City to engage in a decisive battle with the rebels, aiming to eliminate the rebel leaders and most of their army in one campaign, thoroughly defeating the rebellion.”
“Th-this...” Su Yu stroked his chin, deep in thought.
Michelle continued, “For this decisive battle, Princess entrusted me to visit the Elven Kingdom, inviting the Regent of the Elves to lend a hand. The Regent is a peak 7th-tier Druid, with their aid, we'll overpower the rebels' high-ranking forces.”
“Elven Regent?!” Su Yu's eyes widened in surprise: “Aren't the Elves forbidden from interfering in human internal affairs?”
“Kumaji people have an old saying, 'Circumstances change with time'.” Michelle nonchalantly wiggled her finger: “Rules are made by humans; with the Empire on the brink of destruction, who'd still care about these rules?”
“Fair point.” Su Yu nodded in understanding.
Michelle smiled, “Moreover, our Guardian possesses the Elves' most treasured artifact – the Eternal Crown. Princess promised the Regent that if they join the war, the crown will be returned to them. I think the Regent will likely participate. Kratos, I'm sharing this with you, but keep it under wraps, understood?”
“Don't worry, I won't breathe a word.” Su Yu hastily replied.
“Good.” Michelle rose from her seat: “Now, let's head to the southern warehouse to collect the supplies. Deliver them to Orlan City ASAP, so Princess won't worry.”
“Alright.” Su Yu responded, standing up alongside her.
Three minutes later, Su Yu rode Timah, while Michelle rode a white purebred horse; the duo rode side by side, chatting and laughing as they exited the City Lord's Manor.
Su Yu appeared to joke with Michelle on the surface, but internally, he pondered their previous conversation.
One aspect perplexed him – why did Michelle share such a crucial secret with him?
If Michelle's words were true, this matter almost dictated the war's outcome!
Was it wise to share such a sensitive topic with him?
Although his relationship with the Princess was unique, the more people who knew, the higher the risk of leakage.
“Something's off, really off.” Su Yu muttered to himself.
Yet, he couldn't quite pinpoint the inconsistency.
As they emerged from the City Lord's Manor, players gathered at the entrance greeted Su Yu, who was riding his mount:
“Kratos, you're finally out?! ”
“So quick, eh?”
“Wow, what a beautiful half-elf!”
“Kratos, you're cheating on the Princess with other women?”
“I don't care, I've got the screenshot – proof of Kratos' infidelity!”
Su Yu didn't bother explaining, waving at the players:
“Everyone, mount up! The supplies are at the southern warehouse; follow City Lord Michelle.”
Upon hearing Su Yu, the players finally realized the young, attractive half-elf was the City Lord of Pearl City.
However, Timah and the purebred horse had already sped far ahead. The players hastily summoned their mounts to catch up.
……
Inside a large warehouse in the south, the supplies Michelle prepared for Orlan City were stacked.
The warehouse was filled with 1-2 cubic meter wooden crates containing food, weapons, armor, daily necessities, and various other supplies.
Upon entering, Michelle smiled at Su Yu, “Kratos, these 20,000 crates are all the supplies Orlan City needs. We're counting on you to deliver them!”
