Chapter 258: Support Program
Chapter 258: Support Program
As Chen Chuan walked forward, he could feel Ling Zhuli's gaze fixed on him, only disappearing when the elevator doors closed. Despite this, his stride remained natural, without a hint of abnormality.
Following the guidance of the Boundary Token, he made his way to the end of the corridor, where a sign above read "Dispatch Processing Office." The door to the office was wide open.
"Student Chen Chuan reporting for duty," he announced.
"Come in," a voice called from within.
Chen Chuan entered a spacious room, at least 300 to 400 square meters. A large panoramic window dominated the front, offering an unobstructed view of the outside world.
In the center stood a heavy, curved desk, and seated with her back to him was a woman with wavy hair. She had a fit physique, casually leaning back with her hands on the desk behind her.
As Chen Chuan approached, the woman spoke, "The view here is amazing. Every time I look out from here, I feel like a bird soaring freely in the sky. What about you, Chen? Don't overthink it; just tell me your first impression."
Chen Chuan gazed out the window at the countless skyscrapers. From this height, he indeed felt like he was soaring above the city, embracing its entirety. He replied thoughtfully, "It's all impressive, but it's not mine."
The woman was taken aback, then burst into laughter. Her shoulders shook, and she couldn't stop laughing, as if she might laugh herself to tears.
Chen Chuan glanced at her, thinking to himself that her sense of humor seemed a bit odd.
After a while, the woman caught her breath, wiping away the laughter-induced tears. She turned around.
She was a woman in her thirties with turquoise eye makeup. Her lips were slightly thick, her eyes large, and her nails painted a light blue. At first glance, she exuded competence.
The woman appraised Chen Chuan and said approvingly, "Chen Chuan, you look even better in person than in your photos. Remember to find a better photographer next time."
"Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Ni Xixi, an Administrative Officer from the Processing Bureau stationed at Wu Yi Academy. Just call me Officer Ni; calling me Ni Internal Affairs reminds me of those folks from the Internal Affairs Bureau."
Before Chen Chuan could respond, she continued, "The reason I called you here today is because of some matters concerning you. The Processing Bureau has always paid close attention to outstanding students like you. Every year, we allocate resources to specifically nurture students like you."
She sighed, raising a hand, "But don't get too excited. Nurturing is an investment, and we won't waste resources on students who don't bring returns. We need to see results.
So, we will regularly assess and evaluate you. If you're not up to par, we'll have to withdraw our support. By the way, you're not the only one receiving this opportunity. This time, at Wu Yi Academy, we've selected three students for this program. No one is irreplaceable.
Among the three of you, the one who performs the best will receive the most resources and some recommendations and benefits that you're not yet aware of."
Ni Xixi looked at Chen Chuan and said, "I've pretty much covered what I needed to say. Now, it's your turn to share your thoughts." She tapped the Boundary Token hidden beneath her wavy hair and transferred a file to him.
"All the details and regulations are in here. Remember, don't keep a copy. If you agree, we'll continue the discussion. If not, just walk out as if you were never here."
Chen Chuan examined the file, which outlined the Processing Bureau's Support Program aimed at cultivating exceptional law enforcers. The program required students to refrain from joining any company or non-state entity during their cultivation period. They must also complete tasks assigned by the Processing Bureau.
Aside from these, there were no other mandatory requirements.
He perused the file several times, considering its contents. "I agree," he said after some thought.
Ni Xixi nodded, "Good. Students like you often have strong personalities, especially the young and talented ones." She pouted, seemingly thinking of someone.
Chen Chuan pondered her words, unsure if she was referring to the other two students in the support program.
"Alright," Ni Xixi said, clapping her hands. "Since you agree, let's discuss your studies. I've reviewed your entrance assessment, and it's not bad.
Although you only scored over seventy points, you've just transferred from a branch campus with limited educational resources. This score is already impressive, and I believe with some training, you'll quickly catch up.
The assessment mentioned that your techniques lack variety. As a fighter, you must master your preferred weapon to perfection, or your current shortcomings might become fatal flaws in the future."
Her tone became serious, a stark contrast to her previous casual demeanor.
Chen Chuan nodded in agreement.
"Good, remember that I'll be keeping an eye on you," Ni Xixi said, looking into his eyes as if to intimidate him. However, her attention soon drifted elsewhere. Chen Chuan's eyes were indeed captivating, with their double eyelids and lively expression.
After a moment of brainstorming, she finally gathered her thoughts and continued, "Now, let's get down to business. We will recommend a teacher who specializes in swordsmanship. If you find them suitable after meeting them, you can attend their classes, and you don't need to worry about the cost. We can offer you a waiver, and if you don't find them suitable, you can refuse and pay for the course yourself."
"Additionally, your assessment in the third limit was a little low during the entrance test. For most fighters, reaching the third limit is when they truly differentiate themselves. It's a watershed moment."
"If your subsequent performance meets our standards, we will recommend a teacher to provide you with one-on-one guidance. This is a rare opportunity, so make sure you seize it."
Chen Chuan nodded, "I understand."
Ni Xixi waved her hand, "Alright, I've said what I needed to say. I'm not one for long-winded speeches. You can go back now, and someone will come to sign the support agreement with you later. I'll send you the detailed information shortly, and you can ask me if you have any questions."
Chen Chuan bowed slightly to show his gratitude, "Thank you, Officer Ni. I'll carefully review the information."
After bidding farewell to Ni Xixi, he left the office and took the elevator back to his dormitory. As soon as he entered, he received some information.
However, before he could look at it, he noticed that Tan Zhi had invited him to join a discussion platform where all the participants were students. The current topic was mostly about their respective investors.
After observing for a while, he realized that not only the Processing Bureau but also various companies in Central City were investing in outstanding Wu Yi Academy students.
Therefore, the seemingly expensive training equipment and courses at the academy were not targeted at individuals but at their investors.
Since there was investment, there would undoubtedly be expectations for a return, even for government departments. It seemed that there was much to do in the near future.
Meanwhile, in the Special Assignment Office, Ni Xixi was communicating with someone through a Boundary Token, "Yes, I've already talked to him, and he has verbally agreed... There shouldn't be any issues. Please send someone over to draft the agreement as soon as possible."
The person on the other end asked, "What's your impression of this student?"
Ni Xixi said, "He's pretty good. He's easy on the eyes and has a good temperament."
"I'll arrange for someone to come over soon. After signing the agreement, we'll conduct an assessment."
Ni Xixi was surprised, "An assessment right off the bat? Shouldn't we let him study and adapt for a while first?"
"His entrance assessment score was a bit low. It's the lowest among the three students we're supporting, which doesn't align with his past performance. So, we need an accurate and genuine evaluation of him."
Ni Xixi scoffed, "You're making a fuss. I don't believe an assessment can fully evaluate a person. Only you rationalists treat it as the ultimate truth."
"Moreover, this student is exceptional, and he doesn't have much of a background. I'm sure many companies will want to invest in him, right? I bet some corporate vultures are already eyeing him."
The person on the other end said, "Don't worry. He won't choose those companies, and they won't invest in him."
Ni Xixi was taken aback, "You're so sure?"
The person spoke with a meaningful tone, "It's not that I'm sure; it's that he hasn't chosen. You should have seen his internal resume and know that he participated in the national recruitment organized by the Administrative Bureau, right?"
Ni Xixi was stunned, "You mean...?" She seemed deep in thought.
The person said, "Since he's worked directly under the Administrative Bureau, who knows if he's one of them? Those companies won't invest until they're sure."
Ni Xixi snorted, "Speaking of the Administrative Bureau, don't the old-timers in our bureau dislike people from the Administrative Bureau? How can they be so trusting?"
"What? You don't think there are people from the Administrative Bureau in our bureau?"
Ni Xixi was speechless for a moment, then said with a sigh, "You're right." People from the Administrative Bureau could have multiple identities, and sometimes it was impossible to confirm if a colleague you worked with day and night had another hidden identity.
The person on the other end added, "These are matters for the higher-ups to consider; they don't concern us. We just need to focus on our responsibilities."
At that moment, a notification popped up on Ni Xixi's Boundary Token, and a document was sent to her. The person on the other end said, "When signing the agreement, give this to him as well and see how he performs."
Ni Xixi looked it over and said, "Wow, setting such high standards from the start? Isn't this making things difficult for Xiao Brother Chen?"
The person on the other end spoke seriously, "We need excellent backup enforcers. The Processing Bureau's funds don't come out of thin air; every investment must be made with caution and scrutiny."
Ni Xixi pouted, "Alright, I'll inform him when the time comes."
