Chapter 257: The Devil's Herb
Chapter 257: The Devil's Herb
Lu Hui was actually struck by his opponent's blade, a turn of events that Bald Tu never expected.
He couldn't understand why Lu Hui would dodge halfway and then suddenly stop.
Could it be overconfidence that made him choose not to evade this strike?
But opportunities like this were rare, and after a brief moment of stupefaction, Bald Tu recovered and struck again, aiming for Lu Hui's lower body.
Feeling the intense pain in his chest, Lu Hui saw that Bald Tu's tricky strike was aimed at his heart, and he felt a chill run through him. With great effort, he struggled to free himself from the Water Prison Technique and dodged backward.
However, due to the restraint of the Water Prison, he was still a step too slow, and his thigh was slashed by Bald Tu.
Filled with rage, Lu Hui gritted his teeth against the pain and drew his sword. This strike was both swift and vicious, piercing Bald Tu's right chest.
Bald Tu's eyes gradually lost their focus, and he collapsed to the ground.
Lu Hui, drenched in blood from head to toe, slowly fell as well.
In the secluded woods, the two fought relentlessly, their blood flowing freely. In the end, they harmed each other, falling beneath each other's blades.
This scene was exactly what Mo Hua had designed in his pre-planned script.
Mo Hua nodded, highly satisfied with the outcome.
Zhang Lan, who was standing by, was stunned.
What kind of magic was this? And where did this child, Mo Hua, learn it from?
He was truly exasperating and unpredictable...
Seeing Mo Hua's confident demeanor, Zhang Lan knew he had a plan to deal with Lu Hui, but he never expected it to be so unexpected.
Using a subtle trick, Mo Hua borrowed a knife to kill, effortlessly trapping Lu Hui.
It was only fitting that Lu Hui and Bald Tu would perish together, a reasonable outcome with no flaws.
"Shall we go and check?" Mo Hua asked.
Zhang Lan snapped out of his daze and nodded. However, he delayed for a moment, waiting for Lu Hui's blood to flow a little longer, before walking towards the fallen pair with Mo Shan.
Mo Hua followed closely behind them.
When the three of them reached Lu Hui and Bald Tu, they carefully examined their breaths and couldn't help but exchange glances, their faces filled with disappointment.
Bald Tu wasn't dead. Lu Hui had stabbed him in the right chest, missing his heart, and he still had a faint breath left.
Lu Hui, on the other hand, had lost too much blood and was temporarily unconscious, but his chest wound wasn't severe, so he hadn't died either.
"Why are villains always so resilient...?" Mo Hua couldn't help but mutter.
What should they do now?
After all, Lu Hui was the Chief Justice of the Dao Court. Should they just leave him to die?
Mo Shan and Mo Hua looked at Zhang Lan, awaiting his decision.
Zhang Lan sighed. "I'm exhausted."
Then he found a spot and sat down leisurely. "The scenery here is nice. Let's take a rest."
Mo Hua looked around. The woods were secluded, with deadwood and fallen leaves all around. There didn't seem to be anything scenic about this place.
Nonetheless, he nodded and said, "The scenery is indeed beautiful."
He, too, sat down on the ground and took out wine, meat, and snacks from his storage bag. The three of them began to eat and drink, their mood seemingly cheerful.
Lu Hui lay alone nearby, bleeding.
After a while, Lu Hui still hadn't died. Not only that, but he was gradually regaining consciousness, his murmurs filled with pain.
His right hand trembled as he took a pill out of his storage bag and swallowed it. After refining the pill's power, the bleeding from his chest gradually stopped.
Mo Shan drew his sword, intending to finish Lu Hui off, but Zhang Lan stopped him.
Zhang Lan shook his head. "Don't dirty your hands."
Lu Hui struggled to get up, his expression changing as he saw Zhang Lan and the others. He felt both hatred for their lack of assistance and fear that they would take this opportunity to kill him.
Zhang Lan feigned concern. "Are you alright, Chief Lu?"
A bitter smile crossed Lu Hui's face as he replied, "Thanks to Chief Zhang's mercy, I won't die just yet."
"That's good. I was worried about your serious injury," Zhang Lan said.
Lu Hui's smile didn't reach his eyes as he said, "Thank you for your concern, Chief Zhang."
But in his heart, he cursed, "Worried? Worried that I won't die?"
A sinister look flashed in Lu Hui's eyes.
He would remember this debt, and they would pay for it later.
However, he dared not reveal his hatred, lest he provoke Zhang Lan and Mo Shan and truly be silenced.
Lu Hui forced a smile and said, "I will remember the kindness shown by all of you. After I meditate and recuperate for a moment, shall we continue our journey back?"
Zhang Lan nodded. "That sounds good."
Thus, Lu Hui continued to meditate and recuperate, healing his injuries.
"This bald Tu is so useless. He couldn't even kill Lu Hui, wasting the good opportunity that he provided."
"This Lu Hui is also lucky. That knife didn't hit a vital spot, so he didn't die."
However, Mo Hua was in no hurry. They were in Da Hei Mountain, the territory of the demon hunters and, by extension, his territory as well.
There was no way Lu Hui could escape alive.
After Lu Hui had rested and his wounds had stabilized enough for him to move temporarily, the group got up and set off, escorting the bald Tu along the mountain path back the way they had come.
When they reached a fork in the road, Mo Hua suddenly quickened his pace and turned left into a small path.
A flash of understanding crossed Mo Shan's eyes, and he followed Mo Hua.
Zhang Lan, unfamiliar with the mountain paths, naturally followed Mo Hua as well.
Lu Hui, who was from Qing Xuan City and knew nothing about Da Hei Mountain, was cautious and vigilant. However, he didn't realize anything amiss about this path, so he, too, walked into the trap unbeknownst to him.
This mountain path was narrower and more desolate, but otherwise, it didn't seem unusual.
The mist wasn't heavy, and the miasma wasn't particularly dense either.
Lu Hui was unaware of the impending danger and was simply walking when he suddenly caught a whiff of a pungent, putrid odor.
He looked around and realized that the stench was coming from a grass-like plant in Mo Hua's hand.
Lu Hui frowned and asked, "Little brother, what kind of grass is that in your hand?"
Mo Hua didn't hide it from him. "It's called Demon Stench Grass."
"What's it used for?" Lu Hui inquired.
Seeing that Lu Hui didn't recognize it, Mo Hua explained, "There are many demons in these mountains, and this grass has a pungent and stinky odor that can drive them away."
Lu Hui wasn't a demon hunter, so at first glance, this explanation seemed reasonable.
"Can I take a closer look?" he asked.
"Sure," Mo Hua readily handed over the Demon Stench Grass.
Lu Hui took it and examined it carefully. Apart from its exceptionally putrid smell, it seemed unremarkable and untouched. Mo Hua's explanation made sense.
But as they walked, Lu Hui's thoughts lingered on the grass. Why would this little brat carry such a stinky grass just to drive away demons? Suddenly, he realized that Mo Hua and the others had silently moved ahead of him, now a good ten steps away.
Lu Hui was taken aback, and before he could think further, he felt a chilling aura emanating from behind him.
He slowly turned his head and saw two demon beasts lurking in the bushes on either side of the path.
One had red skin and fangs dripping with saliva, while the other had white fur and long horns, its eyes glowing crimson.
Both beasts stared intently at him.
Lu Hui was terrified, but in that moment, everything became clear.
Demon Stench Grass, its name said it all. While the stench was repulsive to cultivators, it attracted demons.
This Demon Stench Grass was meant to lure demon beasts, and now he was holding it in his hand!
"Damn this little brat, he tricked me!" Lu Hui raged.
He immediately threw away the grass, but it was too late. The demon beasts had already set their sights on him and began to charge.
Lu Hui's wounds had not fully healed, but at this critical moment, he had no time to consider that.
He mustered his spiritual energy, his blood essence surging as he ran for his life.
If he were caught by the demon beasts, he would surely end up in their bellies. Faced with death, he didn't care if his wounds tore open and blood soaked his clothes.
Lu Hui pushed his movement technique to the limit, barely outpacing the beasts and creating some distance. The oppressive feeling on his back lessened slightly.
Just then, he saw Mo Hua turn back and smile at him.
"Why is this brat smiling?" Lu Hui wondered.
Before he could ponder further, he saw Mo Hua raise his hand, palm facing upward, and then gently clench it.
In an instant, a mysterious and bizarre spiritual energy appeared, forming a water chain that bound him!
It all made sense now. Lu Hui understood why the bald Tu, despite his swift movements, couldn't escape, and why he had dodged the knife but still ended up wounded.
"Is it this treacherous little brat?!"" Lu Hui realized, but it was too late.
The Water Prison Technique had locked him in place.
In less than two breaths, the demon beasts were upon him, their massive jaws opening wide. Fangs pierced his shoulder...
