Chapter 257: Riddle's Diary
Chapter 257: Riddle's Diary
Upon returning to the Leaky Cauldron, Hagrid suggested they all have a drink before leaving, and everyone agreed, even Mrs. Weasley, who was the angriest of them all.
She felt it necessary to explain the situation to the Granger family to prevent them from forming any negative impressions of wizards.
While the adults chatted, Kyle approached Ginny.
The young girl was sitting quietly, her head down, silently sipping her hot chocolate—the only non-alcoholic beverage available at the Leaky Cauldron.
Kyle's sudden appearance startled her.
"That was a great throw just now," he said.
"You... you saw that?" she asked.
"I wasn't sure at first..." Kyle shrugged. "But the usual Ginny wouldn't be this quiet."
"I... I was just so angry," Ginny said, clutching her cup. "How dare he talk about Dad like that!"
But she quickly changed her expression, looking worried as she asked, "Kyle, do you think they'll expel Dad?"
"Don't worry, they definitely won't," Kyle assured her after a moment's thought. "The Ministry of Magic has just passed the latest Muggle Protection Act, and Mr. Weasley is the initiator and main enforcer of this law.
If they were to expel him now, it would greatly damage the Ministry's credibility, and Fudge wouldn't agree to it."
Ginny blinked, not quite understanding.
"Okay, let me put it another way," Kyle said with a smile. "Mr. Weasley has many friends, including several Heads of Departments, Deputy Heads, and members of the Wizengamot, who will all stand up for him."
This time, Ginny understood.
She heaved a sigh of relief, visibly brightening up.
"Thank you, Kyle!"
"No need, I'm just telling the truth," Kyle waved his hand. "But your cauldron throw was quite accurate. If it hadn't been so full of books, it might have hit Malfoy right on the head.
Honestly, Ginny, you have the talent to be a Chaser."
"Too bad first-years can't play Quidditch," Ginny smiled.
"You can still try out, after all, Harry is an exception."
"But I heard Gryffindor doesn't need any more Chasers..."
"That's true, so let's wait until you're in your second year."
"Hey, you just said I should give it a try," Ginny protested. "Can't I be an exception like Harry?"
"I was just being polite... it's really your fault," Kyle said calmly. "If it had been me, I wouldn't have missed that throw."
Ginny clenched her teeth, as if she wanted to throw the cauldron at Kyle's face to prove her accuracy.
But when she turned around, she realized her cauldron had somehow disappeared, and Kyle was holding it.
"I was just wondering what to get you as an enrollment gift..."
Kyle took the old books out of the cauldron. "How about a brand new set of textbooks?"
Ginny quickly shook her head in refusal. "No, no, that's too expensive. I can use second-hand ones..."
"It's settled, then."
Before she could finish, Kyle gathered the books. "But you'll have to wait a couple of days. Flourish and Blotts probably won't welcome us right now."
Ginny couldn't hold back her laughter.
Because of them, several bookshelves at Flourish and Blotts had been knocked over, and books were scattered all over the floor.
If it hadn't been for the man named Hagrid, they wouldn't have been able to leave so easily.
...
After finishing their butterbeer, the group had calmed down significantly. The Grangers let go of the previous incident and bid farewell to Mrs. Weasley with a friendly conversation.
They walked back to the Muggle street on the other side of the bar.
As they left, Kyle gave Mr. Granger a large bottle of Potter Soothe Shampoo.
He had plenty of these in his bag, all prepared for a certain professor, so giving one away was no big deal.
After bidding farewell at the bar, Kyle and the Weasley family arrived at the fireplace and returned to the Burrow via Floo Powder.
"Thankfully, you didn't mispronounce my name this time, dear," Mrs. Weasley said as she greeted them at the kitchen door, holding a large coat brush and dusting off the fireplace soot from their clothes. "Good, everyone is here... Wait, why are there only eight of you? Where's Percy!"
That's when they realized Percy hadn't returned.
"I remember he was reading in an old junk shop," Ron said.
Harry nodded, "I think it was 'How Prefects Gain Power'."
Everything in the junk shop was old and worn out, except for that book, which looked brand new.
"Ha, that's so like Percy," Fred chuckled.
"He wants to become the Student Council President..."
The correct version is available to read at 69 Book Bar! 6=9 Book Bar is the first to release this novel.
"Or maybe the Minister of Magic!"
Mrs. Weasley ignored Fred and George, setting down the coat brush in her hand.
"Oh, dear, Percy must have lost track of time... Didn't you call him when you returned?"
"Who would've cared about Percy at that time," Ron muttered. "We thought you had called him..."
Mrs. Weasley didn't say a word; she silently grabbed a handful of Floo Powder and threw it into the fireplace.
In fact, she had forgotten too.
...
Mrs. Weasley went back to fetch Percy.
Kyle declined Fred's invitation to play Quidditch in the forest and quickly returned home after leaving the Burrow.
He went back to his room, locked the door, and took out a pile of Ginny's old textbooks.
Among them was a worn-out black notebook tucked inside the book "A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration."
The faded date on the cover indicated it was from fifty years ago, and it blended in perfectly with the old books, drawing no attention.
Even if someone saw it, they would assume it was left behind by the junk shop owner while sorting through items.
Kyle took a deep breath and carefully opened the notebook... On the first page was a name, blurry and unclear.
"T.M. Riddle."
Indeed, Lucius Malfoy had secretly slipped the diary to Ginny.
He probably intended to use this method to take revenge on the Weasley family.
Kyle tapped the table... Lucius Malfoy likely didn't know the diary's true purpose, but he must have been aware of how dangerous Voldemort's artifacts could be.
In other words, he never cared about Ginny's life.
Hagrid was right; Lucius Malfoy was truly despicable.
Although he paid a price for it.
After Voldemort's resurrection, he immediately discovered that the Horcrux he had hidden in Malfoy Manor had encountered an accident.
Lucius Malfoy, despite sacrificing all his wealth, barely managed to save his family's lives, but Draco was still forcibly sent to assassinate Dumbledore.
A student who hadn't even graduated was sent to assassinate Dumbledore... Clearly, Voldemort never intended for him to survive.
But all of this was for the future.
Now that the diary was in Kyle's hands, Ginny should be able to have a normal school year.
Moreover, he had some questions he wanted to ask the young Tom Riddle.
