Chapter 257: Hanabi and Hinata 【27】
"Fire... Hokage-sama?! "
Hinata, who was carried away from the courtyard by Fengye, couldn't help but whisper. At three years old, she couldn't understand the situation and didn't know that the incident was over.
Fengye smiled at her gently and said, "Don't worry, it's all over now."
In the distance, the Cloud ninjas were drenched in sweat, their bodies trembling.
Hyuga Hizashi looked in the direction of Fengye's departure and breathed a sigh of relief. A hint of gratitude and determination flashed in his eyes.
Ever since the First Hokage established the village, and even after the Second Hokage took over, there had been constant disputes among the major clans and forces within Konoha. When a clan became too powerful, it would inevitably invite the Hokage's suspicion and suppression.
The Uchiha clan had always been under pressure, and the Senju clan faced similar treatment. This was also one of the reasons why Tsunade and Sarutobi Hiruzen had become estranged after the Second Great Ninja War.
Even after Namikaze Minato took office, the situation didn't change much.
It was only when Fengye became the Fifth Hokage that things began to shift.
Up till now, none of the major clans had faced any suppression. Fengye's consistent focus had been on nurturing talent, rewarding those who were more gifted and outstanding regardless of their clan affiliations. He treated every ninja of Konoha equally.
As the clan head of the Hyuga clan, Hizashi had rarely worried about internal strife within the village since then. The tensions between the Hyuga and the Uchiha clans had also been kept in check, leading to a stable relationship between the two clans.
At this moment, it would have been easy for Fengye to suppress the Hyuga clan, and no one would have faulted him for it. Yet, he didn't show even a hint of hesitation or intention to do so. Instead, he displayed an unwavering stance when it came to conflicts between Konoha and outside villages.
It seemed that he was merely protecting the Hyuga clan.
But Fengye was actually conveying a message to everyone.
He didn't care about the growth and expansion of any particular force or clan, not even the already influential Hyuga clan. As long as he was the Hokage, Konoha would never again suffer casualties due to power struggles.
"It's truly the Fifth Hokage," thought Uchiha Fugaku as he gazed at Fengye's departing figure. With a faint smile, he turned to Nara Shikaku and said, "Shikaku, I'll leave the rest to you."
As the first clan to stand by Fengye's side, and being the Uchiha clan, Fugaku naturally hoped that Fengye would rely more on them and prevent the rapidly rising Hyuga clan from challenging the Uchiha's position in recent years.
However, this impartial attitude was also welcome.
At the very least, they didn't have to worry about being suppressed for becoming too powerful. They could focus solely on nurturing talent, and the Uchiha clan was confident in their ability to excel in that regard.
...
In the living room, Fengye's eyes held a mysterious glow as he looked at the little girl in his arms, Hinata.
His reincarnation eyes, a brilliant azure blue, shimmered with a subtle light.
Taking Hinata away wasn't just about resolving the situation with the Cloud ninjas; it was also because Hinata's situation piqued his interest even more.
Under the scrutiny of his reincarnation eyes, he could see that Hinata had the chakra of Hagoromo Otsutsuki attached to her!
"The chakra of a Six Paths level... unless it is absorbed and devoured, it will continue to reincarnate and gather even if scattered," Fengye mused to himself.
Fengye's eyes flickered as he contemplated this discovery.
When he had obtained the Byakugan containing Hagoromo's power, the chakra belonging to Hagoromo had dispersed.
The amount of Hagoromo Otsutsuki's chakra attached to Hinata was minuscule, just a mere strand. However, this strand had firmly latched onto her and was quietly attracting other scattered fragments of Hagoromo's chakra from the world around them.
"... "
Fengye pondered his options.
He could either remove and seal away the Hagoromo chakra from Hinata, in which case the chakra would likely attach itself to other members of the Hyuga clan. Or he could leave it be and let Hinata grow up with Hagoromo's chakra within her.
After some consideration, Fengye decided to let nature take its course. He didn't see any significant issues with letting Hinata inherit Hagoromo's chakra.
This sort of 'reincarnation' was different from the resurrection of Kaguya Otsutsuki. The pure chakra didn't contain any consciousness; it was merely a mutual attraction between chakra of the same source, a bloodline inheritance.
Now that he had reached the Six Paths level himself, if he were to have offspring and infuse a part of his chakra into the ninja world, that chakra would naturally be drawn to the same source and eventually attach itself to his descendants, gathering and strengthening over time.
"Hokage-sama," Hizashi called out as he entered the room, having left Hinata with her mother. He bowed respectfully to Fengye.
Fengye closed his eyes briefly, the azure glow in his eyes fading, and then set Hinata down. Hinata glanced at him cautiously before scurrying back to Hizashi's side.
"Hizashi, I have something to discuss with you," Fengye said.
"Yes," Hizashi replied, nodding. He patted Hinata's head gently and said, "Go to your mother."
Hinata obediently replied with a soft "yes," and then left the room.
Fengye watched her go, his eyes trailing after her for a moment.
Noticing Fengye's gaze, Hizashi guessed what the topic of discussion might be. "Is it about Hinata?" he asked cautiously.
"Yes," Fengye replied, turning his attention back to Hizashi. He nodded and said, "You must have wondered why my eyes have a suppressing effect on your Byakugan, a connection due to their shared origin.
Ever since Fengye's eyes transformed into their current state, every time he met Fengye, he felt a sense of oppression stemming from his Byakugan. It was something he had never experienced when facing other dojutsu, nor had it ever happened between members of the same clan.
This confusion had lingered in his mind, but he dared not ask about it because it undoubtedly involved Fengye's power, and probing into such matters was taboo.
"Don't be nervous," Fengye said with a slight smile as he looked at Hizashi. "My eyes do indeed have a connection to your Hyuga clan. They could be considered a higher form of power derived from your ancestor, the younger brother of the Six Paths Sage, Hagoromo Otsutsuki—Hamura Otsutsuki."
Hizashi lifted his head, his eyes widening with shock. "So that's how it is... No wonder I feel a sense of oppression from your eyes, Hokage-sama, on an instinctual level."
"For certain reasons, I fought a reincarnated Hamura Otsutsuki and took his dojutsu power, obtaining these eyes. However, Hamura's chakra has found a new vessel for reincarnation."
Fengye spoke calmly, his tone even.
Hizashi's heart skipped a beat as he asked, "You mean...?"
"Yes," Fengye nodded slightly. "Hamura's chakra has attached itself to Hinata. It is an immensely powerful force and not easily controlled or manipulated. It is more likely to influence Hinata rather than the other way around; she is too young to handle such power."
Hearing Fengye's words, Hizashi's expression changed. It was undoubtedly a good thing for the power of their ancestor to descend upon Hinata, but if she couldn't control it, he could only imagine the dire consequences.
Moreover...
Fengye also possessed a portion of the ancestor's power, which implied even more complexities.
Hizashi looked at Fengye, a hint of anxiety in his eyes, and asked, "Then..."
"Rest assured," Fengye reassured with a gentle smile. "I won't let Hinata be affected by Hamura's chakra. She's still too young right now and hasn't reached the stage where she can attempt to control it. So, I'll prepare a seal to temporarily suppress Hamura's chakra within her. When she grows older, I'll unseal it and teach her how to harness that power."
Hizashi paused for a moment after hearing Fengye's words, then a look of relief spread across his face. "In that case, please allow me to thank you on Hinata's behalf, Hokage-sama."
Initially, when Fengye mentioned Hamura's power, he had briefly wondered if Fengye had some ulterior motive. But he quickly dismissed the thought. Even before obtaining those eyes, Fengye's strength had far exceeded the realm of a ninja.
If Fengye had any intentions towards the Hyuga clan's power, there would be no need for secrecy. The Hyuga clan stood no chance against Fengye's might.
This was an undeniable fact.
There was no need for roundabout schemes if one had such overwhelming power.
Putting those thoughts aside, there were two key pieces of information to take away: Hinata had become the inheritor of the ancestor's power, and Fengye was willing to accept Hinata as his disciple—once she grew a little older.
Fugaku Uchiha's firstborn, Itachi, was already Fengye's disciple. The Uchiha clan had been the first to stand by Fengye's side, and they held a prominent position in the village, including within Fengye's personal guard, where their numbers exceeded that of the Hyuga clan.
Hizashi had always wanted to find an opportunity to improve relations with Fengye but had never found the right moment. Now, such an opportunity had presented itself.
Adding today's events, that made three reasons to celebrate—even for Hizashi, as the clan head of the Hyuga, it was difficult to contain his joy.
"By the way," Fengye said, a smile playing on his lips. "The reason that cloud ninja died at your hands is partly because of me."
Hizashi's eyes widened in surprise, and Fengye continued, "Last night, the Nine-Tails sensed his malicious intent. I controlled him for a moment, and then he just happened to be killed by you."
Hizashi's eyes narrowed as he processed this information, then he let out a sigh of relief, a wry smile on his face. "So that's what happened..."
He had thought it might have been a plot by the Cloud ninja or some internal faction within the village.
Fengye stood up and smiled gently. "I didn't come by yesterday because of some matters at home. I intended to deal with it today. I hope you don't mind, Clan Head Hizashi."
"Not at all," Hizashi replied. "And indeed, he harbored ill intentions towards our Hyuga clan. We are grateful for your assistance, Hokage-sama; otherwise, things could have turned out much worse."
Fengye smiled again and started walking towards the exit. "Alright, that's all for now. I'll head back and think about the specifics of the seal. I'll inform you once I've decided."
"Thank you, Hokage-sama," Hizashi said, following Fengye to see him out.
He escorted Fengye all the way to the outskirts of the clan's territory and watched as Fengye's figure vanished with a whoosh. Only then did he heave a long sigh, his mind swirling with the information Fengye had shared. He continued walking back towards the heart of the clan's compound, his thoughts still processing everything he had learned.
