Chapter 256: Brothers (Twelve)
Chapter 256: Brothers (Twelve)
The third bedroom was undoubtedly Ā Sè’s room.
Feng Bu Jue had already searched the previous two rooms, triggering a vision in each but finding no artifacts. He hoped this room would yield results. Excluding the room the monster had entered, there were only five rooms on the second floor. Three keys remained to be found, and only three rooms left to check…
Pushing the door open cautiously—same old routine.
Once he confirmed it was safe, he stepped inside, kerosene lamp in hand. This time, the moment he crossed the threshold, the vision activated.
…………
“Brother… Brother, what’s going on?” Āndélǔ stared in horror at the scene before him.
Two corpses lay sprawled on the floor of Ā Sè’s room. Their ragged clothes and drunken stench marked them as disreputable men—coarse-faced and reeking of alcohol.
“Don’t panic. Calm down first, and I’ll explain,” Ā Sè didn’t rush to answer his younger brother’s question. His icy gaze and steady voice aimed to pull Āndélǔ back from the brink of hysteria.
The two brothers in this scene appeared around twenty years old. Ā Sè’s build, attire, and hairstyle were identical to his appearance in the opening CG. Āndélǔ, standing at the doorway, was slightly taller—around 1.8 meters—slim, with an ordinary face, dressed in a shirt and overalls.
Āndélǔ steadied his breathing, forcing himself to calm down. He wouldn’t scream or shout—such moments often demanded loyalty over justice.
“Now, listen to me,” Ā Sè said solemnly. “Our ‘experiment’ has hit a bottleneck. You know that, right?”
Āndélǔ had no words, only a silent nod. His eyes drifted from the corpses to Ā Sè’s blood-stained hands.
“So, we need test subjects,” Ā Sè continued.
“But what about the cattle at home—” Āndélǔ began.
“Livestock isn’t the same as humans!” Ā Sè snapped, cutting him off.
Āndélǔ fell silent, trembling.
Ā Sè exhaled, softening his tone. “These two were homeless drunks—thugs. I found them trying to assault a woman.”
This explanation seemed to ease Āndélǔ’s unease slightly, his expression shifting.
“It’s like doing the city guard’s job. Bounty hunters would’ve done the same,” Ā Sè said. “This is a good thing.” His conviction was unshakable.
Ā Sè had always been this way—unwavering in purpose or consequence, never hesitating or regretting.
“What if someone investigates?” Āndélǔ asked. “What if they find out?”
“No problem,” Ā Sè replied. “The woman didn’t see my face. She ran off after I saved her. These two were only knocked unconscious then, not dead.” He glanced at the corpses. “No one will care about their disappearance. The world’s better off without scum like them.”
Āndélǔ fell silent, wrestling internally. Finally, he asked, “Then… what do we do with them now?”
“You leave and close the door,” Ā Sè answered bluntly.
“Brother… you’re going to…”
“It’s better you don’t know,” Ā Sè said. “I’ll handle it. You don’t need to get involved.”
…………
“Hmm… the first time he killed someone,” Feng Bu Jue muttered after regaining mobility. “Judging by their ages then, Mom must’ve been dead for years.” He walked forward, muttering.
This room was cluttered—high chances of finding an artifact.
The bed’s legs had been sawed off, its base pressed to the floor. Bloodstains soaked the sheets, the thick odor pungent. A deep indentation marred the mattress. Scattered on the floor beside it were rusted tools, blood-soaked gauze, and hardened clumps of unknown substances.
No wardrobe stood by the wall—only two glass cabinets. Once filled with potions and alchemical materials, they now held only empty bottles, trash, and unidentified powders, long since mixed with dust and inert.
“This must’ve been Ā Sè’s first operating room,” Feng Bu Jue remarked. “Processing corpses on his own bed, creating artificial beings…” He scoffed. “It’s like shitting where you eat.”
He righted a toppled cabinet in the corner, opened it, and a sheet of paper fluttered out. Picking it up, he noticed the text activated the menu’s translation function—clearly important.
【Xingzu Clan: A cursed bloodline, their lineage tainted with demon blood. The aggressive traits of humans are passed down through generations.
Yet they are also a blessed people, born with innate talents far surpassing ordinary humans.
In childhood, Xingzu Clan members display maturity and thirst for knowledge beyond their years. By ages five to seven, their memory, comprehension, and imagination outpace even gifted youths among common humans.
During adolescence, they master any skill that takes humans years to learn, progressing at astonishing speed. At this stage, they grasp societal norms, history, and relationships. It’s also when their personalities shift—feral instincts awakening.
In young adulthood, their physical prowess and combat instincts rival rigorously trained warriors, with cunning and strategic minds. They regard human lives and social rules as trivial, seeing all non-clan members—including demons and monsters—as threats.
Based on known reports, fewer than a hundred adult Xingzu exist on the Sati continent, with unknown numbers on overseas islands. No evidence suggests deliberate population growth.
Only field agents of the Royal Sorcerers Corps with officer rank or higher may attempt to “arrest” Xingzu. All others must eliminate both the subject and anyone they’ve contacted.】
“Oh-ho… so that’s how it is,” Feng Bu Jue chuckled after reading. “Suddenly I get this clan’s whole vibe—born with protagonist’s luck, arrogant and ruthless. I’m almost tempted to join them.”
