Chapter 255: The Disciples Want to Improve Their Relationship with Mu Yue
Chapter 255: The Disciples Want to Improve Their Relationship with Mu Yue
A week before their graduation exam, Obito, Kakashi, and the others, having finished their training, did not return home but gathered at a dumpling shop.
"Are you all hungry?" Obito asked before placing their order.
Seeing everyone nod, Obito ordered five plates of dumplings and then sat down at a table further inside the shop.
"You know why we're here, right?" Obito looked around and spoke in a low, serious tone.
"Yeah, it's about that," Yahiko nodded and whispered in response.
"Oh, that, huh?" Might Guy also whispered.
"Why are we whispering as if we're on a secret mission? We're just planning a thank-you party for Mu Yue," Kakashi couldn't help but tease.
With Obito and his group about to graduate, their time with Mu Yue would become limited. And although Kakashi had already graduated, his team would be disbanding, and he wouldn't be able to see Mu Yue every day like this anymore.
So they had discussed showing their gratitude for Mu Yue's teachings and help by throwing a party for her.
Although Genma wasn't graduating or part of their internship team, he would definitely be involved in something like this.
"Seeing Obito so serious, I just wanted to play along," Yahiko explained with an embarrassed smile.
"I thought they were trying to incorporate secrecy into their daily lives as practice," Might Guy realized he had misinterpreted their intentions.
"We have to be cautious in case we run into someone who knows Mu Yue and she finds out about this," Obito felt that maintaining vigilance was important.
"What are the odds of that happening here, in this dumpling shop, and being overheard?" Kakashi was exasperated. He felt Obito's seriousness was misplaced. If only he showed this level of vigilance during missions.
Obito was about to say something more, but Genma, sitting beside him, cut in, "Never mind that. Let's get on with discussing the specifics."
He understood Obito and Kakashi well; once they started arguing, they wouldn't stop anytime soon.
With Genma acting as a mediator, the two gave him face and didn't continue their bickering.
Although Genma was two years younger than them, his exceptional performance in various aspects made it impossible for Kakashi and Obito to treat him like a first-year student.
"How about we hold it on the day of the graduation exam?" Obito suggested, seeking the group's opinion.
"I think that's a great idea. After we pass the exam, we'll receive our forehead protectors. We can thank Mu Yue for her guidance with them on," Yahiko suggested, her hands clasped and a smile on her face.
"That's exactly what I was thinking," Obito nodded and chuckled.
He had gone from being at the bottom of the class to graduating with excellent grades, and now he could thank Mu Yue while wearing his forehead protector.
"I have no objections," Kakashi nodded slightly, indicating his agreement.
For him, the choice of timing wasn't particularly important, as there were no special occasions to consider.
"It feels really good just thinking about it. I'm getting emotional already," Might Guy was so touched by the idea that he could barely hold back his tears.
"I agree," Genma said, as he had no better suggestion for the timing.
Once the timing was settled, they moved on to discuss the specifics of the party.
"We definitely need to give her a gift. But do you think it's better to give one gift from all of us or for each of us to give a separate gift?" Obito asked.
Kakashi's face showed he was deep in thought, but Genma quickly provided a perfect solution.
"Why choose? Each of us can give a personal gift, and then we can also give a group gift. There's no conflict there," Genma suggested, seeing no reason to limit their options.
"Genma, you make sense," Obito said, realizing he had been trapped in a narrow way of thinking. There was no need to choose; they could do both.
What each person wanted to give as a gift was a personal matter, so there was no need to discuss it, but deciding on a group gift was another matter.
"We can start with Mu Yue's hobbies and likes. You've known her longer, so why don't you suggest something?" Kakashi proposed, then quietly observed the group.
Although he had a strong fondness for Mu Yue, Kakashi had only interacted with her for a little over three months. He believed that Obito and the others might know her better.
As the one who had known Mu Yue the longest, Genma fell into deep thought. Mu Yue loved watching them grow stronger, but that obviously couldn't be a tangible gift.
He racked his brain, trying to recall the details of his interactions with Mu Yue, hoping to find some inspiration.
The most obvious hobby she had was calligraphy. Genma recalled that Mu Yue often practiced calligraphy during lunch breaks in her office and occasionally gave them her calligraphy works.
But Genma wanted to dig deeper and find something more meaningful. So he thought harder, trying to recall their moments together and analyze what Mu Yue might appreciate from his memories.
However, as he tried to analyze, he suddenly realized that he couldn't come up with anything at all.
"Perhaps as we continue to grow stronger, we'll be able to discover more about her," Obito thought to himself.
If Mu Yue were to encounter a problem at his level, Obito knew he wouldn't be able to help her at all.
"Teacher Mu Yue likes calligraphy and teaching students," Obito finally said.
These were the only two things he could think of at the moment, and he didn't know much else.
"Those are indeed Teacher Mu Yue's hobbies, but can't we come up with something more discreet?" Tobirama scratched his head and asked.
Many people in the Ninja Academy knew about Mu Yue's love for calligraphy; it was a rather obvious hobby of hers. He had even given her a brush pen before.
But Tobirama felt that since the five of them were preparing a gift together, they should put in more effort. Giving a single brush pen as a group gift would seem perfunctory.
"I remember Teacher Mu Yue mentioning that she likes egg dishes. How about we all cook an egg dish for Teacher Mu Yue together?" Might Guy suggested, stroking his chin thoughtfully.
He might not be able to remember the names of people he wasn't familiar with, but he usually remembered Mu Yue's words clearly.
"Can you guys cook?" Tobirama asked, feeling that this idea might work.
Obito and Kakashi nodded. Due to special circumstances, Obito, despite his young age, could already take care of his own meals.
Might Guy shook his head, indicating that he only came up with the idea, but currently didn't know how to cook.
Rin also shook her head. With both her parents around and still in school, she didn't have to cook, so she hadn't learned that skill yet.
"I can't cook either. Then it's only Obito and Kakashi. Never mind, we can't have just the two of them doing all the work," Tobirama finally decided to abandon this seemingly good suggestion.
Tobirama then continued to reminisce about his interactions with Mu Yue, hoping to find inspiration for a gift.
But he soon realized how difficult it was, and the only reliable idea that came to mind was calligraphy.
"Actually, I think we don't need to think too deeply into it. Maybe Teacher Mu Yue doesn't have any other hobbies," Rin said after some thought.
"Let's just convey our gratitude and appreciation for Teacher Mu Yue," she added.
"And we still have a week. We can also ask other teachers or Teacher Mu Yue's friends for suggestions," Rin said softly with a smile.
"You're right," Tobirama said, feeling his initially anxious heart calm down as he listened to Rin.
With seven days left, they could ask teachers who were close to Mu Yue for ideas. If they really couldn't come up with anything, they could still do their best to express their heartfelt thanks.
As the group chatted and discussed, the boss brought over five plates of dumplings and placed them on the table.
"You're so lucky, Obito. You got to meet Teacher Mu Yue right at the start of school," Tobirama said, a hint of envy in his voice, as he picked up a dumpling and popped it into his mouth.
If only he had met Mu Yue earlier, his strength might have been much greater by now, and he would have had more time to spend with her.
A slight smile played at the corners of Obito's mouth as he comforted his friend, "Even though we're graduating, we're still Teacher Mu Yue's disciples. You guys can still come and find her for training."
Tobirama, of course, knew this. If he graduated, he wouldn't have the chance to see Mu Yue anymore, and he might have to deliberately fail and delay his graduation by a few years.
"Kakashi, how busy are new genin usually?" Tobirama asked, turning to the only official ninja in the group.
He wanted to compare the life of a graduate with their current internship.
"It's similar to when we first started our internship. We train every day and can't take on D-rank missions or higher," Kakashi replied.
In Kakashi's impression, the life of a ninja consisted of constant training and mission execution.
"Of course, it also depends on the arrangements of the guiding teacher," Kakashi added.
"I hope we get a teacher who doesn't care about anything, so I can still go to Teacher Mu Yue for training like before," Tobirama said, his hands clasped in prayer.
In Tobirama's heart, the best outcome would be for Mu Yue to become his guiding teacher. However, he had already asked Mu Yue, and she said she didn't plan to take on that role yet.
"That's impossible. If that were the case, they wouldn't be qualified to be a guiding teacher, and Teacher Mu Yue has her own classes to teach," Kakashi poured cold water on Tobirama's hopes.
"Anything is possible. You're so unambitious. I feel sorry for your future teammates who have to put up with your boring self during training and missions," Tobirama retorted, his face showing his displeasure.
Even if Mu Yue's main body was busy, couldn't she spare a shadow clone to teach him?
"I feel sorry for your future teammates too, having to put up with your wild imagination during missions," Kakashi retorted.
