Chapter 254: You're Too Full of Yourself, Sherlock
Chapter 254: You're Too Full of Yourself, Sherlock
"I still remember the first time I officially met you, Professor, in Diagon Alley! Mr. Weasley and Mr. Malfoy got into a fight, and amidst all those people, you were the only one who rushed to help Mr. Weasley!"
"Without you, the Basilisk that escaped from the Chamber of Secrets would never have been so easily defeated! No one in the castle would have made it out alive!"
"During the summer, you were the first person to take me on a trip! Without you, I wouldn't even know how to get from Britain to France! I certainly wouldn't have experienced all those wonderful moments during our travels!"
"You even made sure to celebrate my birthday, even when Aurors from the Ministry of Magic had urgent matters to discuss with you! Even though we were busy until the early hours of the morning, you still made sure to give me a birthday feast!"
"In our third year, without you and Professor Lupin uncovering the truth, I might still be hating Sirius Black and considering Peter the real hero! I might never have been reunited with my family!"
Harry spoke these words with immense emotion, leaving Ron and Hermione stunned. Even Sherlock, who had been lying on the sofa, managed to sit up, his face transforming from dejection to awkwardness.
"Harry, maybe you would have gone through all of this even without me."
"But now, you're a professor at the school! You've already made everything so much better!" Harry said with unwavering determination.
"I don't know about 'what ifs,' Professor. I only know that it's because of you that these things turned out well! You are the best professor at Hogwarts, hands down!"
After Harry's heartfelt speech, the gloom that had enveloped Sherlock seemed to lift a bit. He scratched his head, looking embarrassed.
"Um, am I really that good?"
"You are that good!"
Harry said this with conviction, and even Ron and Hermione, who had been listening, couldn't help but nod in agreement, like chickens pecking at grain.
Sherlock sat cross-legged on the sofa, touching his face as he muttered to himself.
"Hearing you say that, I feel like I might not be so bad after all." Then he suddenly turned to Harry, Ron, and Hermione. "By the way, what did you come to talk to me about?"
This question brought Harry back to his senses. He finally remembered why they had come and what Sherlock had said earlier. His face turned as pale as Ron's and Hermione's.
But it was too late; what was said couldn't be taken back, just like spilled water.
"Nothing, we just came to check on your condition."
They exchanged glances, their faces as white as paper, and stammered out these words before slinking out of Sherlock's office.
As soon as they stepped out, Ron turned to close the door and said, looking as if he had lost his soul.
"We're done for, this time we're really done for!"
"How could Professor say such discouraging things today?" Hermione said, covering her face in pain.
Harry didn’t say a word, for just as he was about to speak, he noticed someone standing against the wall beside the door to Sherlock’s office, smiling at him.
“H-Hello, Professor Silk.”
Harry stammered the person’s title, and only then did Ron and Hermione notice the person standing beside them!
“You don’t need to worry about what Sherlock said to you yesterday and just now,” Silke said softly. “His emotional state has become abnormal, so his abilities won’t have the same effect.”
Harry, Ron, and Hermione looked at her in shock, mouths agape, unable to utter a word for a long time.
“The things you said to him were very good, thank you, Harry,” Silke said with a gentle smile, thanking Harry.
Harry was extremely nervous, and his stammering showed no signs of improvement.
“I-I just spoke my mind, there’s n-nothing to thank me for, Professor Silk.”
Silke nodded and gave them one last piece of advice.
“Don’t tell anyone what you’ve discovered, and don’t use your findings to experiment with Sherlock in the future. It’s dangerous for everyone involved.”
With her assurance, Harry and his friends felt as if a great weight had been lifted from their shoulders, like they were first-years again. They would have followed her advice even if she hadn’t said anything.
Then, Silke pushed the door open and walked into Sherlock’s office.
After she left, Harry and his friends finally let out a long sigh of relief.
But at that moment, Hermione’s mind turned to the issue at hand.
“Professor Silk actually knows about Professor Forrest’s Jinxed Mouth! And she knows more than what we discovered through our experiments!”
Harry, however, didn’t seem particularly shocked or puzzled. He shrugged and said,
“They have a special relationship, so it’s not surprising that Professor Silk knows more than we do.”
His words made the situation seem more reasonable.
Finally, the heavy burden that had been weighing on their minds for a whole day and night was lifted. The misfortunes they had feared were nothing more than a psychological effect.
Harry and his friends shared a silent understanding and didn’t bring up the incident again, content to chat happily about what they would have for lunch.
As the trio made their way to the Great Hall for lunch, Silke stood in front of Sherlock.
After Harry and his friends left, Sherlock had lain back on the sofa, though the pervasive gloom in the room had lessened somewhat.
When he saw Silke standing in front of the sofa, smiling and staring at him, Sherlock raised an eyebrow and said listlessly,
“You heard everything outside?”
“He said it well.”
Sherlock rubbed his face and sighed.
“Maybe. Harry does feel that I’ve done a lot for him, but in reality, it’s nothing significant.”
Silke watched him silently for a moment before suddenly speaking.
“Sometimes you’re too full of yourself.”
Sherlock looked at her in surprise. He had never heard her say anything like that before.
“Why do you always blame yourself for everything? Do you have the power to influence so many people? Why do you think things will get better because of you? You’re human, and what you’ve done is more than enough, Sherlock!”
