Chapter 253: The Outer Plane Wizard in Search of a Magical Companion
Chapter 253: The Outer Plane Wizard in Search of a Magical Companion
October 24, 2024
High above, the gale-force winds howled.
Hailin sped northward like a stream of light, covering over a hundred kilometers in a blink of an eye.
As he neared his destination, he could see the battle raging in the distance.
One side of the conflict consisted of the Secret Puppets and Touch Puppeteers of the Hunter Wizard Legion, along with a few Star Alliance Wizards. The other side was a group of thirteen robed wizards.
Seeing this, a cold sneer curled on Hailin’s face.
Ever since sixteen years ago, when the Vanguard of the Dark Throne was obliterated on the Starlight Continent, the Dark Throne dispatched several waves of Invaders to the Starlight Continent.
The strongest of these invasions was led by three Level 2 Wizards, alongside twenty-five Level 1 Wizards and the Flying Bone Claw Legion, riding a small Wizard Tower.
But even that formidable force was eventually decimated by the Star Alliance.
Hailin also parated in that battle, his first encounter with wizards.
He had initially thought that the wizards of large mage organizations would be far more formidable, but in reality, they were even less equipped.
Especially in terms of magical items, they were completely outclassed.
Most Star Alliance wizards had one or two magical devices each, and some even wielded Engraved Gems, powerful weapons of mass destruction.
In contrast, the Dark Throne’s wizards had few magical devices, let alone any trump cards.
But what truly impressed and awed everyone was Master Su Nan.
In that battle, Master Su Nan faced three Level 2 Wizards of the Dark Throne, defeating them with overwhelming force, a display of power that was truly awe-inspiring!
With that thought in mind, Hailin didn’t hesitate to join the fray upon arrival, immediately attacking a Level 1 Aerial Wizard with his innate abilities.
The Dark Throne’s invasion force this time was far weaker than any previous attempts, with only thirteen Level 1 Wizards.
Thirty Secret Puppets and Touch Puppeteers surrounded them, along with Hailin and the arriving Star Alliance wizards, completely outmatching the Dark Throne’s forces.
Within half an hour, all thirteen Dark Throne wizards were annihilated.
After the battle, Hailin approached Feylin, who had also parated, and said with a frown, “It’s strange, why did the Dark Throne only send such a small force this time?”
Thirteen Level 1 Wizards, what difference did they make?
Had the Dark Throne’s wizards become so numerous that they could be casually expended without a second thought?
Feylin shrugged, “These guys aren’t strong in combat, but they are very skilled at hiding. The Star Eye didn’t detect their presence until they attacked a Noble recently. The Star Eye only then discovered them, and by the time the Hunter Wizard Legion arrived, they were setting up an array to send a message back to the Dark Throne.”
Hailin instantly understood; these were sacrificial pawns.
The Dark Throne likely didn’t expect them to return alive, their main goal being to scout the True Conditions of the Starlight Continent and report back.
After all, the Dark Throne’s previous invasions had been disastrous because they lacked accurate information about the Starlight Continent and the true strength of the Star Alliance, leading to this latest operation.
In the entire multiverse, perhaps only the Dark Throne’s twisted system could carry out such a mission.
No other wizard organization would force thirteen wizards to undertake a task that was almost a death Sentence.
“The Dark Throne likely already knows the situation on the Starlight Continent,” Feylin said. “Before the Planar Seal is lifted, they probably won’t send anyone over to die.”
Hailin nodded in agreement.
As long as the Planar Seal remained in place, the Dark Throne’s invasion forces would be limited and pose no real threat to the Star Alliance, only serving to train their troops and provide battle items.
“By the way, how did you get here so fast?” Feylin suddenly remembered and asked.
Hailin replied calmly, “I had business in Flash City.”
Feylin understood immediately; it was likely another matter of the Imperial Royal Family.
As a member of the royal family, Hailin had to shoulder certain responsibilities and do things for the Imperial Royal Family.
However, in return, Hailin received resource support from the Imperial Royal Family.
This was why, despite being much younger, Hailin had almost risen to the rank of wizard at the same time as Feylin.
Feylin was actually quite envious of Hailin’s resources.
“This mission will earn us more contribution points; we can exchange for more Refined Gold Magic Statues.”
“I remember you already have a regiment of two hundred Refined Gold Magic Statues.”
“It’s never enough. We need to hunt Elemental Spirits; the more Refined Gold Magic Statues, the better.”
Hailin remained silent.
Within the Star Alliance, elemental dust was almost equivalent to contribution points. The task hall always had a mission to acquire elemental dust, which had never been taken down.
Many wizards formed golem armies to hunt in the elemental planes, collecting elemental dust to earn contribution points. They then exchanged these points for adamantine golems to expand their armies and continue hunting in the elemental planes.
Through this snowballing method, many wizards now earned contribution points at an astonishing rate.
Hailin didn’t understand why the Star Alliance needed so much elemental dust. Although it had a wide range of uses, it didn’t seem like the Star Alliance had that many places where it was needed. Over the years, the amount of elemental dust collected by the Star Alliance had accumulated to an astronomical number, and it was unclear where it all went.
However, despite his doubts, Hailin was somewhat tempted. The imperial royal family had a private army of over a thousand adamantine golems. He could easily borrow a few hundred of them to form a golem army and hunt in the elemental planes. Compared to other wizards who had to accumulate adamantine golems bit by bit, he already had the initial capital, and the only cost would be the repairs needed after the golems were damaged.
The more he thought about it, the more feasible it seemed. After advancing to a wizard, he needed more and more resources, and he urgently needed to earn more contribution points.
Just as Hailin was pondering how to convince the emperor, he suddenly noticed something and took out a book from his spatial ring.
On the other side, Fleming did the same.
The two of them opened their books, and immediately, threads of light emerged from the pages, weaving together to form the same person's image.
"An unrecorded energy particle fluctuation has been detected. There is one, located 280 kilometers east of your current position."
Another intruder?
Fleming and Hailin exchanged glances, their eyes filled with uncertainty.
Could it be that the Dark Throne sent two waves of people?
But why only one person?
What could be the purpose of this?
Seemingly sensing their confusion, the image continued, "The person may not be from the Dark Throne. Don’t rush to act when you get there; first, determine their identity. As a precaution, both of you should go together."
"Understood, we’ll head over now."
Putting away the book, Fleming turned around and noticed that the other wizards had already left, and the witch-hunting legion had retreated. Only he and Hailin were left at the scene.
"Let’s go and check it out. It might just be a wizard apprentice who recently came from a rural area," Fleming said with a shrug.
Hailin smiled, "We haven’t seen such a person in a long time."
With the establishment of the teleportation network and the spread of sub-magic technology, the transportation conditions on the Starlight Continent had greatly improved, far surpassing what they used to be. This also led to a significant increase in the speed of information dissemination.
Now, the Star Alliance’s wizard qualification testing was well-known to everyone. Almost every child who met the age and literacy requirements would participate in the wizard qualification testing. Anyone with even a little talent would be incorporated into the Star Alliance.
Furthermore, the entire Starlight Continent had been thoroughly explored, and almost all wizard legacies and books had fallen into the hands of the Star Alliance. Situations where a lucky individual would accidentally come into contact with a wizard legacy, activate their mental energy, and become a wizard apprentice were now rare.
As a result, there had been almost no ‘wild’ wizard apprentices in recent years. This was why Fleming and Hailin had immediately thought of the Dark Throne, but now they realized it might be a ‘wild’ wizard apprentice.
The two of them cast levitation spells and soared into the sky, heading east.
Since the unrecorded energy particle fluctuation was also moving and at a decent speed, they occasionally had to take out their Star Books to contact the Monitor and confirm the target’s location, adjusting their direction accordingly.
After spending half a day, they finally found their target.
She was sitting under a tree, leaning against the trunk, holding a compass and staring intently at the patterns on it, completely absorbed.
To their surprise, the target was a woman, and a beautiful one at that.
The harsh sunlight filtered through the tree canopy, becoming gentle as it fell on her, highlighting the contours of her face, her ivory skin, and finally sinking into her pale silver eyes. She appeared to be in her mid-twenties, with long hair like a silver waterfall and a pair of purple crystal earrings that sparkled at her earlobes. Below the crystals hung delicate golden tassels. She had a unique aura that made her seem unpredictable, calm, and composed. Her quietness wasn’t cold or arrogant; it was simply a serene and rational presence.
Fleming and Hailin exchanged a glance, their expressions growing serious.
Even though the woman's energy particles were extremely faint, at most on the level of a second-tier wizard apprentice, their instincts told them that she was no ordinary person.
The woman lifted her gaze from the compass and looked at Fleming and Hailin, having long since noticed their approach.
"Who are you?"
Her voice was melodious, though somewhat cold.
"We come from the Star Alliance," Fleming carefully replied. "Who are you?"
The woman didn't answer his question but instead scrutinized them closely.
"I didn't expect the Starlight Continent to produce wizards. The Star Alliance you mentioned—is it a wizard organization?"
Fleming's heart skipped a beat, and his eyes narrowed with caution.
"You're not from the Starlight Continent!"
"Indeed, I am not," the woman admitted frankly, noting their wary expressions and shaking her head. "There's no need to be nervous. I have no ill intentions. I came to the Starlight Continent to find my magical pet."
Fleming and Hailin relaxed slightly, convinced that she was not lying.
It seemed she wasn't from the Dark Throne.
Despite this, they didn't let their guard down entirely, and their confusion only deepened.
If she had a magical pet, she must be a wizard.
But for a wizard from another plane to come to the Starlight Continent to find her pet—it sounded strange!
"What is your magical pet doing on the Starlight Continent?" Fleming asked.
The woman put down the compass and stood up. "For certain reasons, when I left the Starlight Continent, I had to leave it behind to keep it out of danger."
Fleming and Hailin were momentarily stunned, then their eyes widened in realization.
"Are you one of the wizards who left the Starlight Continent two thousand years ago?" Fleming exclaimed in a low voice.
"Not exactly an expedition," the woman gently shook her head. "Back then, the major wizard factions had already expanded beyond the Starlight Continent, which was just one of many planes they controlled. It was special because it was the origin of many wizard factions, but calling it an expedition is a bit of a stretch. A temporary relocation would be more accurate."
Fleming and Hailin were dumbfounded by this new information.
This was a secret they had never heard before.
But what shocked them even more was the woman's identity.
If what she said was true, she must have lived for over two thousand years!
And this wasn't two thousand years in the element-scarce Starlight Continent!
The cultivation environment in other planes didn't suffer from elemental desolation or resource scarcity.
If this woman was telling the truth, she had trained for over two thousand years in an environment similar to the Golden Age of Wizards. She must be at least a second-tier wizard, perhaps even a third-tier wizard!
Fleming and Hailin were torn between shock and doubt, unsure whether to believe her.
Initially, they had intended to bring her back to Dragon Forest for questioning, but if she was indeed a third-tier wizard, bringing her there would be like inviting a wolf into the sheepfold!
For a moment, they were at a loss.
After a brief hesitation, Fleming asked, "What does the magical pet you're looking for look like?"
"A white cat."
"Any other clues?" Hailin inquired.
Just knowing it was a white cat was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
"I've searched the place where it was sleeping, but it's long gone. The wizard tomes and magical items I left behind were also taken. I suspect it was taken by a wizard apprentice or a wizard. From the traces at the scene, it seems to have happened about seven or eight hundred years ago."
Fleming pondered for a moment.
Seven or eight hundred years ago, there were no other wizards besides Lord Su Nan.
The one who took the white cat must have been a wizard apprentice.
But so much time had passed; the apprentice was likely long dead, making it nearly impossible to find anyone who knew about it.
"Also, it wears a golden bell around its neck," the woman added.
Fleming and Hailin froze, their expressions filled with surprise.
A golden bell?
The same image of a small, white figure flashed through their minds.
"Are you saying this white cat is skilled at spatial travel?" Fleming asked, his expression odd.
The woman's eyes lit up. "Have you seen Amy?"
