Chapter 252: The Disappearance of Harry
Chapter 252: The Disappearance of Harry
Ever since Fred switched Ron's wand with the trick wand, they had been eagerly awaiting the outcome.
However, a week had passed, and Ron still hadn't noticed... in other words, he hadn't cast a single spell in that time.
This left Fred and George feeling incredibly disappointed.
"Seems like we have a very obedient little brother," Fred said helplessly one evening. "He really took to heart the rule about students not using magic outside of school and has been sticking to it religiously."
The village of St. Kachel was a large one, home to a significant number of witches and wizards. As long as their magic went unnoticed by Muggles, the Ministry of Magic wouldn't bat an eye at any magical activity in the area.
So, the decree they received before the holidays was essentially meaningless here.
Not just Kyle and the twins, but even Cedric and Percy would often practice spells in their rooms.
In this regard, Ron stood out for his exceptional obedience.
And because of this, Fred and George's plan to test the trick wand would likely not come to fruition anytime soon.
George sighed, "I wish he'd be this obedient at school."
"Maybe Gryffindor would have a chance at the House Cup then," Fred added, shrugging. He then turned to Kyle, "By the way, Kyle, we're planning to go to Diagon Alley tomorrow to shop. Want to come along?"
"Sure," Kyle replied. "What time are we leaving?"
"In the morning," George answered. "We have a lot of books to buy, and Ginny needs to get her school things ready. We have to leave early."
After agreeing on a departure time for the next day, Fred and George took their leave.
Back in his room, Kyle intended to continue reading, but whether it was due to excitement or something else, he found himself unable to concentrate on the words.
With no other choice, Kyle turned off the lights and went to bed early.
...
Time seemed to pass slowly, but eventually, morning arrived.
After a quick breakfast, Kyle made his way to the shack.
The Weasley family was having breakfast when he arrived, and despite Kyle's insistence that he had already eaten, Mrs. Weasley insisted on giving him several ham sandwiches.
Ginny made space for him to sit next to her.
As Kyle sat down, Mr. Weasley, who was in the middle of eating, looked up and asked, "Has your dad gone to the Ministry already?"
Kyle nodded, "He received a letter half an hour ago and rushed off."
"Must be those guys..." Mr. Weasley muttered. "They're unhappy with the new Muggle Protection Act, so they've been dumping their Dark artifacts in places where Muggles are bound to find them.
I suppose they think they're being clever, solving their problems and causing trouble for us at the same time."
"But they have succeeded," Kyle shrugged.
Lately, the Prophet had been filled with reports of Muggles affected by Dark magic, and their numbers were growing. The Ministry's Accidental Magic Reversal Squad was overwhelmed.
And that wasn't all; even animals and insects were not spared. Cattle and insects alike became aggressive and violent after coming into contact with the discarded Dark artifacts.
There had even been sightings of purple ants the size of palms...
This was why Chris had rushed off to the Ministry early in the morning.
"It's only temporary success," Mr. Weasley said with a bite of his sandwich. "Scrimgeour has Aurors investigating this matter, and no one dares to throw away Dark artifacts anymore.
A bunch of self-righteous fools, but I'll get the evidence to bring them to justice eventually..."
"You can do it, Dad!" Fred and George exclaimed excitedly.
"But Mr. Weasley, why don't those people just put their things in Gringotts?"
Kyle asked in confusion, "The Ministry has no way of checking the vaults, so it should be safe there, right?"
"I don't know..." Mr. Weasley thought for a moment and said, "Maybe they don't want to taint their gold coins with cursed objects..."
After breakfast, Mrs. Weasley picked up a flowerpot from the mantelpiece in the kitchen and turned to the group, saying, "Well, guests first, Harry, you go first!"
She brought the flowerpot to Harry.
"I... what am I supposed to do?" Harry stammered, looking puzzled.
"Mrs. Weasley, Harry probably hasn't used Floo Powder before." Kyle stepped forward. "I'll go first and show him how it's done."
"Never used Floo Powder..." Mrs. Weasley frowned, finding this a bit unbelievable.
Harry gave Kyle a grateful look and nodded vigorously.
"Alright then..." Mrs. Weasley brought the flowerpot to Kyle.
Kyle pinched some of the glittering powder from the pot and threw it into the fireplace flames, then stepped right into the fireplace and shouted, "Diagon Alley!"
In the blink of an eye, Kyle appeared in the Leaky Cauldron.
Perhaps due to the approaching school term, it was much busier than usual, and the few shabby tables were filled with wizards enjoying their drinks.
If one arrived too late, they would have to stand and hold their drink.
Soon enough, Fred and George arrived, followed by Mr. Weasley...
As soon as he stepped out of the fireplace, he anxiously looked around.
"Merlin's beard... Kyle, have you seen Harry Potter?"
"No." Kyle shook his head. "Did he go in before you?"
"He went into the fireplace before me." Mr. Weasley's voice trembled. "Oh no, we've lost Harry Potter..."
After that, Percy, Ron, and Ginny, along with Mrs. Weasley, arrived as well.
Upon learning that Harry had not appeared in the Leaky Cauldron, Mrs. Weasley's face drained of color, and she nearly collapsed.
Fortunately, Fred was quick-witted and caught her from behind.
"Arthur..." She clutched her chest and sobbed, "Harry's missing... what will we say to his aunt and uncle?"
"Don't worry, Mrs. Weasley, Potter will be fine." Kyle reassured her. "He probably went through the wrong fireplace, or maybe we can check Knockturn Alley. I remember there should be a fireplace there as well."
"Yes... You're right, that must be it."
Mrs. Weasley clung to this idea like a lifeline. "Where's the fireplace in Knockturn Alley... Damn, I can't remember!"
"Calm down... Molly, don't panic."
Mr. Weasley held her hands tightly and comforted her. "I remember Kingsley telling me that when they went to search Knockturn Alley... Oh, I remember now! It's Borgin and Burkes!"
"That notorious Dark Arts shop?!" Mrs. Weasley's face turned even more unpleasant.
She rushed towards the backyard of the Leaky Cauldron. "Quick... Arthur, we have to hurry..."
Seeing this, Mr. Weasley also rushed to follow her.
