Chapter 252: Sybrian, the Thief, Doesn't Want to Meet Lanci, the Police
Chapter 252: Sybrian, the Thief, Doesn't Want to Meet Lanci, the Police
Sybrian nodded thoughtfully, stroking her chin as she listened to the Ice Snow Witch's tale.
"Why me?"
If there was a chance of success, Sybrian was naturally inclined to lend a helping hand.
However, in her opinion, the task seemed daunting, far beyond what she imagined a vacation student in the Northern Continent could handle.
"Even if the elites of the Aetherun Kingdom could disguise themselves, once they reveal their skills, their true identities would be difficult to conceal. Infiltrating the Protoss Empire would be risky, as the prison there has ancient demon artifacts that can detect one's power level. If a 7th or 8th-rank expert tried to sneak in, they would be immediately discovered, since there are only so many 7th and 8th-rank experts in the Northern Continent, and they are all well-known."
While the Protoss Empire's capital city was filled with demon relics that even they hadn't been able to decipher yet, the Protoss had become more adept at utilizing the demons' legacy of wisdom than the demons themselves.
Of course, there was one prerequisite to this plan—Sybrian had to be a descendant of the demon tribe, a princess no less.
The strategic significance of rescuing a powerful demon would not be as significant if it were anyone else.
"What exactly do I need to do?" Sybrian asked, reasonably confident that the Ice Snow Witch had thought this plan through and would provide her with the necessary support.
However, most of her past successes had been closely tied to Lanci, and she wasn't sure what she could accomplish on her own.
"We will have our allies in the Protoss Empire help you establish a new identity. Then, after we send you to the Northwest Province of the Protoss Empire, you'll need to adjust to your new life as the daughter of a wealthy merchant. Afterward, we'll arrange for you to transfer to the Imperial Knight Academy, enrolling in the Combat Department as a third-year student."
The Ice Snow Witch opened another file box and handed Sybrian a document containing information about the Imperial Knight Academy.
"This school..." Sybrian murmured, perusing the information with a puzzled frown.
"The third year at the Imperial Knight Academy includes a challenging internship program where students are sent to that dangerous prison to train as prison guards," the Ice Snow Witch explained, leaning forward slightly. She flipped through the pages to point out the optional course within the Combat Department's third-year curriculum.
"This is the simplest and most inconspicuous way to infiltrate that prison without arousing suspicion."
For ambitious and powerful young people, the dangerous prison in the empire's capital, filled with demon relics, presented an opportunity to test their mettle. Both the inmates and the prison environment posed significant risks, requiring prison guards to possess exceptional strength and survival skills.
Those who could fulfill their duties and navigate the treacherous prison while climbing the ranks toward its inner depths would undoubtedly become valued pillars of the empire.
On the other hand, those who perished along the way would be dismissed as either overly arrogant or lacking in ability.
"Are there any loopholes in the security of that prison?" Sybrian asked.
"The prison itself was built by demons a thousand years ago, and its rules and logic are more aligned with demons than humans. However, under the strict control of the empire, no one with demonic blood is allowed to enter. Trying to disguise yourself and slip through is impossible."
The Ice Snow Witch paused, fixing her gaze on Sybrian, confident that she understood the implication.
Sybrian possessed an ancient and unusual disguise magic, a legacy of the distant demon tribe, which could bypass all detection methods currently employed by the Protoss Empire. Only a bloodline-level epic scouting spell could hope to uncover her true identity.
"The heavier the demonic influence within, the more one might find that prison congenial. Often, those students from the Imperial Knight Academy who achieve the highest scores in that course end up becoming the empire's most feared and sinister heroes."
"Then what about me...?"
"You are Iphalia's daughter. I believe in you, after all, I've heard about what you did in the Shadow World during the Cathedral's evening banquet."
"..."
"No, that wasn't me," Sybrian said, holding back her tears. She couldn't bring herself to implicate Lanci and shift all the blame onto him; she wouldn't betray her friend like that.
"If there's a chance to rescue that Great Demon, give it your best shot. With her help, it'll be easier to move within the prison, and I'll also create opportunities to assist and extract you. But if there's no chance, don't take the risk. Just exit the prison normally, drop the course, and return to the Aetherun Kingdom."
Sensing Sybrian's lack of confidence, the Ice Snow Witch softened her tone.
"I'll give it a try..." Sybrian replied. She would have to apologize to Lanci; for now, she couldn't help him with his stone tablet research and could only prioritize the greater good of the Northern Continent.
If she could successfully rescue the Great Demon, it would greatly alleviate the pressure on the Aetherun Kingdom and the Fate Goddess Church.
"In three months, there will be a ridiculous vote in the Imperial City to decide which Cardinal of the Resurrection Church will be the Empire's key figure." As the Ice Snow Witch spoke, she couldn't help but sneer with disdain, for she had long despised the Empire's atrocities.
"Naturally, the Protoss Empire won't sit idly by and let the three Cardinals remain in their heartland, so most of their high-level forces will be concentrated in the Imperial City on that day."
"Are you saying I should attempt a prison break then? Wouldn't that be the most dangerous?" Sybrian asked, having seen the news as well.
Not just the Protoss Empire, but likely all the nations of the Northern Continent involved in this war would be fixated on the Imperial City's movements that day!
There was even a possibility that once the issues of the three Cardinals' internal strife and allocation were resolved, the Empire would declare an historic war.
"Firstly, there's no way to forcibly break into that prison. Even if you manage to rescue the Great Demon, you'll have to sneak her out quietly. Ironically, that day will be the safest because everyone's attention will be on the vote in the Imperial City, and prisons in the outskirts are usually expected to be left undisturbed. So, on significant days like that, a portion of the external prison security will also be redeployed to the heart of the Imperial City."
Additionally, under normal circumstances, the Empire's eighth-rank powerhouses guarded various locations. Even if they managed to sneak the Great Demon out of the prison, by the time the Empire realized what had happened, breaking through their blockade to the northwest would be no easy task.
However, the vote presented a rare opportunity where most of the Empire's powerful individuals would be gathered in the Imperial City. As long as they could sneak the Great Demon out and escape a certain distance, even if the Empire responded, a pursuit with the Great Demon would be much easier than a head-on breakthrough.
The Ice Snow Witch assured Sybrian that the Aetherun side would also prepare to assist, and once they reached the Northwestern Province of the Protoss Empire, the rescue mission would be considered a success.
"Hiss—" Sybrian sucked in a breath of cold air as a realization struck her.
One of the Cardinals who would be running in the election in three months was none other than the object of Lanci's affection—
Cardinal Askesang, the Cardinal of Obliteration.
If Lanci had arrived in the Protoss Empire smoothly, contacted the Resurrection Church according to plan, and then begun his wild development...
The next time they met, they would be on opposite sides of the law!
And that guy being a cop wasn't a matter of which side he helped; he would definitely make both sides miserable!
