Chapter 252: Lahar and Dolbarte
Chapter 252: Lahar and Dolbarte
The enemy had retreated.
Although the reason was unclear, no one had attacked since a black firework ascended into the sky.
Mira had already woken up, removing the tangled bandages from Ailveman and Loth, carefully treating their wounds.
She even went to help Vina with her injuries.
Loth now dared to speak much, still shaken by the events that had turned him into a mummy, which left him a bit nervous.
Naz and Hapi went to scout the area, returning with a torch, specifically a branch burning with black flames.
"Loth, is this the God-Slaying magic you mentioned? It's so disgusting, I can't even eat it!"
Kana was surprised, "Even Naz couldn't eat it?"
"It is." Loth said, "God-Slaying magic and Dragon-Slaying magic are both Lost Magic. That person claimed it was higher than Dragon-Slaying magic, but now it seems even if it's not high, it's at least the same level."
"What God-Slaying magic!" Naz angrily said, "I have to eat it!"
Hapi encouraged him, "Come on, Naz!"
Naz opened his mouth and bit into the black flame, "It's so hot! Disgusting, I haven't felt the heat of a flame in so long!"
Elusa nodded seriously, "It looks like very dangerous magic. Naz, your cultivation isn't enough yet."
Elusa, with a serious expression, made Naz even more determined, "I will eat it now... It's so hot!"
Loth smiled, feeling the tense atmosphere was now relieved.
Although he was very tired, he still released the small wild monsters to keep watch.
Half an hour later, they even found the temporary camp of the Demon Heart.
But there, a black flame was still burning, and it looked like they had retreated in a hurry, not having time to clean up.
Loth muttered, "Why did they suddenly leave?"
"Probably they're afraid of us, with that God-Slaying mage!" Naz said, but still couldn't do much with the black flame.
Kana said, "I think there's some urgent matter."
"Their retreat is good. Miss Vina needs a stable place to rest properly." Mira paused, then added, "Ailveman and Loth too."
Elusa thought for a moment, "I remember a town on the way, let's go there first."
"We might have to wait a bit longer to leave." Loth said, "I saw the tribunal members."
...
The group met the tribunal's team near the Demon Heart camp.
The leader of this team was named Lahar, wearing glasses and with his hair tied back, looking more like a clerical officer.
However, Loth felt he and his subordinates were different from the divisional teams they had seen before.
They might be the tribunal's elite direct forces.
They searched the forest for a while, retrieving some of those previously defeated by Ailveman, and collected some bodies.
They also put out the fires along the way.
Now, some were continuing the search, while others were investigating the burnt-out campsite around the Demon Heart, hoping to find some clues.
Lahar then met with a few others and the group of Tails.
The main focus was to understand the situation with Loth, Ailveman, and Mal.
"I want to go back to the village and see it for myself." Mal was reluctant to speak to the tribunal, looking at his sister's wounds, he wanted to see the village's condition firsthand.
Loth said, "We only did a quick search of the village before leaving. If there's any spare time, help us look for survivors."
"Third squad, fourth squad!" Lahar didn't hesitate to order,
"Accompany Mr. Mynot to search and rescue, and ensure his safety!"
"Yes!"
"Thank you."
Mal thanked them and bowed deeply to Rod and Ailveman.
Mira said gently, "Please rest assured, we will take good care of Miss Vina."
"Thank you."
Mal and the two squads of white-robed soldiers left.
Lahar then asked Rod and Ailveman for the details of the incident.
Rod recounted the entire story from the moment he and Ailveman accepted the mission, then waited for Lahar to ask questions.
Lahar was impressed by this efficient communication. In the past, he often had to expend much more effort to obtain the same amount of information.
Rod simply wanted to finish the conversation and get some rest.
"Have you noted everything down?"
The scribe nodded.
Lahar continued, "Thank you for your cooperation. Just to confirm, do you have any idea about the Demon Heart's objectives?"
"Not really. Based on the outcome, it seems they were after 'Kris's Tears.' The capture of Mal and Vina seemed more like a side objective.
However, if you think deeper, it's possible that all of this is a ruse, and they might have simply wanted to wipe out the village, or had some other purpose."
Rod found Rastilus's actions quite peculiar. He remembered Rastilus saying something like, "Barely, this battle managed to stir my heart."
He didn't quite understand the mindset of such a young, dramatic individual.
"What do you know about Kris's Tears?"
"I've only heard some legends, but I've never seen them myself. Mr. Piet didn't mention anything about them before he passed away. You might want to ask Mal and Vina later."
"Regarding the information on the Seven Fiends of Hell..."
"The general information has already been provided. Once we return to the guild, I will compile a more detailed report and send it to the Tribunal."
Rod planned to create a detailed report with portraits, magical effects, personality analyses, and targeted strategies. He would display it in the guild so that anyone who encountered them in the future could either kill them or at least escape.
Damn it, to think they dared to beat him and Ailveman like that... He would make several copies and have the guild master bring them to the regular meetings, then distribute them to major guilds.
"Thank you for your hard work and for your assistance."
"We also thank the Tribunal for their timely support."
Rod now suspected that the Tribunal's team might have made too much noise on their arrival, alerting the Demon Heart, which led to their hasty retreat.
In any case, it turned out to be a good thing for them.
"Please inform Mr. Mal that we are taking Miss Vina to the town to rest. He should come there later to find us."
Lahar suggested, "Why not let us take care of Miss Vina? We have professional medical personnel with us."
"Sorry, but this needs Mr. Mal's approval. We just promised to take care of her."
Lahar didn't insist and watched them leave.
A young man with a crew cut suddenly appeared, "That's not like you, Lahar. I thought you would be more rigid, maybe even detain them?"
"Don't underestimate me, Dolbarte. Even if I have some prejudices, I won't abuse my authority."
Lahar shook his head, "They are not criminals, not even suspects. As for you, haven't you already processed your memory? Is there a need to avoid them specifically?"
"It's better to be cautious in my line of work," Dolbarte, or Meister, said regretfully,
"Unfortunately, I couldn't catch them in the act last time, and I didn't encounter the Demon Heart this time... Damn it, at this rate, when will I get a promotion?"
"You really don't hide your ambitions."
Lahar disliked those obsessed with power, but Dolbarte, who worked hard to achieve his goals, was a different case.
"Would you like to participate in the interrogations? We captured quite a few members of the Demon Heart, and there will be a lot of work to do."
