Chapter 251: Naruto and Sasuke [37]
Chapter 251: Naruto and Sasuke [37]
In the backyard of the Uchiha clan's compound, two figures stood a short distance apart in front of several sturdy trees, holding shuriken in their hands, their eyes fixed on the target marked on the tree ahead.
One of them had black hair and black eyes, wearing the Uchiha clan's emblem on his attire; he appeared to be only three or four years old—Uchiha Sasuke.
Beside him was a boy with golden hair, around the same age as Sasuke, known as Uzumaki Naruto, or rather, Namikaze Naruto, as he should be called now.
Without the nine-tails inside him, the whisker-like marks that had been present at Naruto's birth had faded as he grew older, and now he bore a vague resemblance to a younger version of his father, the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze.
"Watch me…"
Naruto held a shuriken, his eyes focused on the target on the tree in front of him. With a quick flick of his wrist, he threw the shuriken with force.
It hit the target with precision, but not at the very center; it veered slightly off, landing within the second ring outward from the center.
"So this is the son of the Fire Shadow," Sasuke remarked, folding his arms across his chest.
Naruto retorted, "Hey, don't get too cocky. You just got lucky."
"Is that so?" Sasuke replied with a confident smirk. He threw another shuriken, and this time, it hit the bullseye, right at the center of the target.
Naruto scowled, biting his teeth in frustration. He picked up two shuriken this time, intending to throw them simultaneously.
As the son of the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, who had died fighting for the village, and without the power of the nine-tails, Naruto had earned the respect of many people around him from an early age. His life trajectory was vastly different from the original storyline, except for one thing—his unwavering goal to become the Hokage.
He wanted to be a Hokage like his father, admired and beloved by everyone.
And to achieve that, he had to be a genius.
There was no way he could lose to a brat his age, especially when he had already surpassed those a year or two older than him.
Ding!
Naruto threw the two shuriken with one hand. They collided in the air, causing one to deflect slightly, but both still managed to hit the target, albeit at the very edge.
Sasuke chuckled and took out two shuriken as well. He threw them, and they landed with a 'dong' sound, much closer to the center than Naruto's.
"See that? That's the power of the Uchiha clan," Sasuke boasted.
Not far away, Feng Ye, who had been observing the scene, rolled his eyes.
These two rivals never failed to amuse him. Sasuke, who was usually adorable when with Itachi, immediately put on a front when facing Naruto. With neither Indra's nor Asura's chakra fully awakened within them yet, Sasuke, who had been trained by Itachi, naturally excelled in shuriken throwing compared to Naruto.
Speaking of which, he used to be unable to see Indra's and Asura's chakra, but now, with his Rinnegan and his foothold in the Six Paths, he could clearly perceive them.
These two chakras were not within Naruto and Sasuke's bodies but existed in a semi-real, semi-illusory state, attached to the surface of the two boys. Thus far, they had not been utilized.
Standing beside Feng Ye was Uchiha Itachi, his gaze also fixed on the two boys, particularly on Naruto.
Unlike Sasuke's arrogance and confidence, Itachi saw something different—a spark of talent in Naruto that was not far off from Sasuke's. With proper guidance, he believed Naruto could match Sasuke's prowess.
"As expected of the child who inherited the Fourth Hokage's gifts..." Uchiha Itachi murmured.
At that moment, Sasuke, who had been standing at a distance, spotted Itachi and Feng Ye and broke into a delighted smile. He quickly ran over to them.
"Big brother!" Sasuke exclaimed.
Before Sasuke could reach him, Itachi placed two fingers on his forehead, causing him to stop abruptly, his hand rubbing his reddened forehead as he took a step back.
Sasuke rarely saw such a serious expression on Itachi's face, and after rubbing his forehead, he immediately straightened up and respectfully greeted Feng Ye, "Hokage-sama."
"Don't be so uptight, Itachi," Feng Ye said with a smile. "Your little brother is adorable, much cuter than Kakashi."
It was true that little Sasuke was indeed adorable, especially in front of Itachi Uchiha.
Itachi gave a slight bow to Feng Ye.
Just then, Naruto caught up and called out to Sasuke, "Hey, don't run off! We're not done yet!"
Sasuke glanced at Naruto and said, "What are you shouting about? Can't you see the Hokage is here?"
"The Hokage?" Naruto exclaimed, his eyes widening as he turned to Feng Ye. Noticing the striking resemblance to one of the faces on the Hokage Monument, he suddenly recalled what Kushina often told him, and he scratched his head awkwardly. "So-sorry, I mean, Hokage-sama."
Feng Ye smiled gently and said, "You two can continue playing."
As he turned to leave the backyard, Itachi followed, leaving Sasuke and Naruto standing there.
Sasuke wanted to catch up with Itachi, but Itachi stopped him with a raised finger, so he could only pause and watch as their figures disappeared from view.
"A Hokage, just like my dad..." Naruto murmured, his eyes following the direction Feng Ye had gone. He turned to Sasuke and asked, "Hey, what's the relationship between the Hokage and your brother?"
Sasuke turned to face Naruto and replied, "The Hokage is my brother's master."
"Your brother's master, huh... I heard that the Fifth Hokage is the strongest of all the Hokages and the most powerful ninja in the world right now. I wonder just how strong that is. I bet he could throw ten shuriken and hit the bullseye with every one." Naruto spoke softly, his eyes still on the direction Feng Ye had left.
Sasuke glanced at Naruto and said, "You're underestimating the Fifth Hokage. My brother could easily do that... You can't even begin to imagine the Fifth Hokage's true strength."
Naruto looked at Sasuke and asked, "Have you seen the Fifth Hokage in action?"
"No," Sasuke shrugged.
Naruto shot Sasuke a look that clearly said, 'Then how would you know?' and declared, "I will become an even stronger Hokage than the Fifth."
"I suggest you go back to bed," Sasuke replied with a slight hum.
"You..." Naruto glared at Sasuke, his frustration evident. "Are you looking to spar?"
"I'd like to see what the son of the Hokage is made of," Sasuke said with a hint of challenge in his voice.
Just as the two were about to start sparring, they heard Kushina and Mikoto's voices, causing them to freeze in their tracks.
As Kushina entered the backyard and saw Naruto and Sasuke standing there, hands on each other's shoulders, her eyebrows twitched. "Naruto, what are you doing?"
"Sasuke?" Mikoto asked, joining them.
Naruto's forehead glistened with a thin layer of sweat as he quickly wrapped an arm around Sasuke's shoulders and forced a smile. "Oh, we're just playing a game..."
Sasuke, feeling uneasy under Mikoto's gaze, stuttered in response, "Ye-yeah, that's right."
Seeing their sons like this, Mikoto and Kushina exchanged a glance, shook their heads, and turned to leave. "Let's go home, Naruto," Kushina said.
As soon as their mothers turned away, Naruto and Sasuke, who had been stiffly clinging to each other, shared a glance filled with fiery determination. They quickly let go of each other, each letting out a slight hum, and followed after their mothers.
