Chapter 250: What Was That Navy's Name Again?
Chapter 250: What Was That Navy's Name Again?
A few days later.
Dressrosa, a tropical resort island and kingdom, famously known as the "Land of Love, Passion, and Toys."
Its coastline was dotted with mushroom-shaped rock formations, making it nearly impossible for ordinary ships to dock.
This was the stronghold of Donquixote Doflamingo, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and the self-proclaimed "Heavenly Yaksha."
Inside a sprawling garden, a man draped in a pink feathered cloak lounged in a chair beneath the sun, sunglasses shielding his eyes. Beside him stood another figure with spiky hair and hands casually tucked into his long robe's pockets. Nearby, a portly man wearing a baby outfit sucked on a pacifier as he sat.
"Bororo..."
Suddenly, the Transponder Snail nearby crackled to life.
"Donquixote Doflamingo!"
The garden doors burst open as a curvaceous figure in a maid uniform stormed in, tearful eyes blazing with fury as she pointed at the pink-haired middle-aged man.
"This time, I'll never forgive you!"
She leapt forward, her arm transforming into a cleaver mid-air, slicing toward Donquixote Doflamingo.
"Again with this, Baby-5", sighed the pacifier-sucking man, shaking his head. "Never learns her lesson."
The blade hissed through the air, shearing off a corner of Doflamingo's lounge chair. He leaned back just in time, dodging the strike while answering the call.
"Hello?"
A cruel smirk curled Doflamingo's lips as he spoke.
"Donquixote Doflamingo, big news!" the Transponder Snail chirped excitedly.
Lowering his head to evade Baby-5's follow-up swing, Doflamingo chuckled, "Rare you call me personally. What's this big news, Elizabello?"
Elizabello, one of his key weapons dealers, responded through the snail, "Moe Island! You know Moe Island?!"
"Moe Island?" Doflamingo leaned back, kicking Baby-5 aside as she charged. She crashed into the ground while he asked, "That island between Jerman Kingdom and Sukunai Kingdom? What about it?"
His grin widened. That island had long been his coveted prize. The century-long war between those kingdoms meant massive weapon consumption - a goldmine. Plus, the island's strategic location...
"Bonaparte Poropa agreed to cooperate?"
That was the only possibility Doflamingo considered. The short-statured weapons tycoon had held Moe Island for twenty years, developing his own weapon production line. His "Weapon Soldiers" dominated both kingdoms' markets - even Mariejois favored them. Doflamingo had tried everything but couldn't crack that market. If Poropa finally opened negotiations...
"Better", Elizabello's voice trembled with excitement. "Bonaparte Poropa vanished! Rumor says he's dead. This is the best news, boss!"
Doflamingo froze. Baby-5 rose, transforming her arm into a gun, only to get shot down again by the spiky-haired subordinate.
"Master's doing this for your own good", said the spiky-haired man, "and calm down, Baby-5. Master's in a meeting."
"You're better off without that gold-digger", added the pacifier-sucker, "despicable man deserved his fate. No one betrays our family and lives."
"Silence, Senor."
Doflamingo raised his hand, his smile returning. "Apologies for the family chaos. Continue - Poropa vanished? Dead? Who did it?"
"Unknown", Elizabello replied. "Rumor says he fell off a cliff, swept away by sea currents. Now Moe Island's defenseless, guarded only by temporary Navy forces! Haha, imagine those naive Marines thinking they can control centuries-old feuds from that strategic location."
"Moe Island as a Marine Base?" Doflamingo snickered. "Never heard of such an official decision. Some reckless commander's personal whim, I presume?"
"Exactly! Let's seize the island together, under your protection!"
"Excellent proposal, Elizabello", Doflamingo's grin stretched ear-to-ear. "Approved."
"Perfect! We'll flood both kingdoms with weapons from that island. Its location lets us expand across seas! And that clueless Navy commander, Lucius Kro, trying to enforce peace in a century-old battlefield? Hilarious, right, Doflamingo?"
The Transponder Snail relayed Elizabello's laughter, expecting camaraderie.
But Doflamingo's smile suddenly vanished. His grip tightened on the snail.
"What did you say?"
"A Navy establishing a Marine Base?"
"No. That Navy commander's name."
"Lucius Kro? Problem?"
Doflamingo's silence stretched before he rasped, "If it's that man... Forget Moe Island. He's not someone you want to cross."
"Boss, come on! Just a commander. The World Government never authorized this Marine Base - just this idiot's personal stunt. We take the island, the government won't care."
"Careless?" Doflamingo leaned forward, "Whitebeard - careless?"
Before Elizabello could answer, he continued, "The world's biggest fool, yet no one dares underestimate him. Same applies here - intelligence matters nothing when facing terrifying men."
"If you insist on dying", Doflamingo's laugh turned sinister, "go ahead. But don't use my name."
Snap!
He severed the call, sitting motionless as veins throbbed on his temple.
"Joking, Elizabello?" he hissed.
If not for that last question, he'd have doomed himself. Using his name against that man meant Dressrosa's destruction by dawn. That monster had the thinnest skin imaginable.
