Chapter 250: Kushina and Mikoto [27]
Chapter 250: Kushina and Mikoto [27]
"A messenger from the Cloud Hidden Village..."
Watching as Rin left the Hokage's office, Feng Ye stroked his chin thoughtfully. He had a feeling that this group of people would stir up some trouble.
After some careful consideration, he realized the timing made sense. In a couple of days, it would be Hinata's third birthday. However, due to the Hyuga clan's internal rules, only direct descendants of the main family turned three years old, and the branch family's descendants would collectively receive the caged bird seal. Therefore, outsiders would not be invited to participate in the celebration.
Feng Ye pondered for a moment before shaking his head and smiling.
This incident was quite interesting.
Despite the usual narrative portraying the Cloud Ninjas as adamant about demanding an explanation from the Hyuga clan under threat of war, they had actually been targeting the Hyuga clan from the start.
After the Third Ninja World War, the Senju clan declined, and the Hyuga clan rose to prominence, becoming one of the two top Konoha clans that could rival the Uchiha clan.
Sarutobi, the Hokage, had always taken a suppressive stance towards the major clans. During the war, he was forced to let the Hyuga clan flourish, but he would undoubtedly oppress them afterward. The Cloud Ninjas seemed to have taken advantage of this, working in tandem with Sarutobi to bring down the Hyuga clan.
This served as a reminder to the Hyuga clan that even with their newfound power, they still had to stay in line.
Demanding that the leader of the Hyuga clan pay with their life for the death of a Cloud Ninja messenger, and threatening war if this demand wasn't met, was clearly a bluff.
Not only would Sarutobi, the cunning old fox, see through this, but even Feng Ye, who wasn't particularly fond of such scheming, could easily discern the Cloud Ninjas' true intention.
The outcome proved this.
Sarutobi pressured Hyuuga Hizashi to death, but the Cloud Ninjas still went to war afterward. The only impact of the entire incident was Sarutobi suppressing the Hyuga clan.
"Should I give them a warning...?"
"Never mind."
After some contemplation, Feng Ye decided to put it out of his mind.
It didn't matter.
Although the Nine-Tails had become lazy, the Cloud Ninjas wouldn't be able to make any moves without the Nine-Tails sensing their malicious intentions. There was no need to remind them, as it might create unnecessary tension if the Cloud Ninjas had no plans for action.
He would deal with it if they dared to make a move.
With that in mind, Feng Ye left a shadow clone in the office and walked out.
...
Uchiha Clan Residence.
In a side room.
Two women knelt opposite each other on a soft couch, chatting and sipping tea. One of them, with blood-red hair, was none other than Whirlpool's Kushina—now known as Namikaze Kushina.
Seated across from Kushina was Uchiha Mikoto, the mother of Itachi and Uchiha Sasuke.
"Itachi and Sasuke have grown up so fast," Mikoto remarked as she poured herself a cup of tea, a smile on her face.
Kushina chuckled. "Your Sasuke as well. The last time I held him was during his full moon celebration. He's going to be a heartthrob when he grows up."
"Oh, stop it..." Mikoto replied, a hint of embarrassment in her smile. She glanced around the room and asked, "I wonder where those two have run off to."
Kushina took a sip from her teacup and replied, "They probably went to the backyard. My Naruto is so energetic; he wears me out trying to keep up with him."
Mikoto suppressed a smile and said, "Sasuke is a bit more manageable, thanks to his brother Itachi keeping an eye on him. Otherwise, I'd be in the same situation as you... Why don't you get a tutor for Naruto?
Just as the two women were chatting, a figure wearing geta passed by in the corridor, heading towards the backyard.
Kushina and Mikoto Uchiha froze when they saw the figure, then stood up together and bowed towards the person, saying, "Fire Shadow."
"Keep chatting, I'm just here to check on Itachi's training."
Feng Ye glanced at Kushina and Mikoto Uchiha and smiled.
Mikoto Uchiha bowed again and thanked him. "Thank you for paying so much attention to Itachi's training, Fire Shadow. It's very thoughtful of you."
"I just happened to be free," Feng Ye replied casually with a smile. He turned to Kushina and asked, "How have you been lately? Kakashi has been taking care of you and your son on my behalf these past two years since I haven't had the time to visit."
Kushina nodded with a smile towards Feng Ye. "Thank you for your care, Fifth Hokage. We've had no problems at all, and any issues are quickly resolved... The village keeps him very busy, as he barely has time to return to his own home."
Because Kakashi often visited Kushina, Feng Ye hadn't personally gone himself, but he had instructed that she be given a monthly consolation payment, and any issues regarding her daily life were to be handled by the Sixth Company of the Shadow Guard.
"In that case, I'm relieved," Feng Ye said with a nod. "If there's anything, just reach out to Kakashi."
Feng Ye gave a slight nod to Kushina and continued walking, disappearing at the end of the corridor and heading towards the backyard.
Kushina and Mikoto Uchiha bowed in the direction Feng Ye had left until he was out of sight, then straightened up.
Mikoto Uchiha looked at Kushina and sighed when she noticed her gaze. "Are you thinking about the Fourth Hokage? If it hadn't been for the Nine-Tails incident..."
"No," Kushina shook her head, a nostalgic smile playing on her lips, but her eyes held a complex emotion. "If Minato were the Hokage, it would've been difficult for him to achieve what the Fifth has, and I wouldn't have been able to tame the Nine-Tails."
She was full of gratitude towards Feng Ye. Without him, not only would Konoha not have recovered so quickly from the war and developed so rapidly, but it might have been destroyed during that incident.
In her opinion, Minato's decision had been the right one. Not only had Konoha thrived under Feng Ye's leadership, but the 'Great Nine-Tails' was now respected by many Konoha ninjas. Additionally, Feng Ye had saved her life, allowing her to care for Naruto.
Kushina felt a bit embarrassed about her current situation, staying at home and receiving a monthly allowance, even though Naruto was only three years old and still quite young.
She planned to go to Feng Ye when Naruto turned five and started school, requesting to resume her duties as a ninja... Although Minato had died in battle for Konoha, and she was entitled to these benefits, she also wanted to continue contributing to the village.
"The Fifth Hokage is indeed a legendary figure," Mikoto Uchiha agreed, nodding as she looked in the direction Feng Ye had disappeared. After all, even the First Hokage, Hashirama Senju, had been unable to tame the Nine-Tails.
