Chapter 250: Good Deeds
Chapter 250: Good Deeds
"I concede."
The team leader stood up and declared.
"So this is Seto Kaiba's dueling style? Flawless and formidable, truly worthy of the title of the best duelist of this generation. I stand defeated."
"As a duelist yourself, you show potential." Kaiba commented, "A duel is about overwhelming your opponent with sheer power, leaving them with no room for resistance. To achieve this, relying solely on monsters, magic, or traps is insufficient; only by combining them all does it become meaningful. And after attaining such prowess, there's something even more important for a duelist."
He gestured with a fist to his chest.
The team leader seemed to understand, and bowed deeply, "Thank you for your guidance, President Kaiba. I will continue to improve and strive to be better."
"Since he has high hopes for you, don't disappoint him." Kaiba added casually.
"Yes!"
With just one brief duel, the surrounding spectators were in awe of the legendary Kaiba. They felt that his reputation was well-deserved, and some even thought that he exceeded the tales they had heard.
The atmosphere became harmonious, resembling a scene of a senior expert guiding a junior disciple. The only thing marring the picturesque scene was the fact that the junior disciple happened to be a burly man dressed as a White Dragon maid—a slight discrepancy in the artistic style.
Their leader certainly had peculiar tastes.
Just then, a muscular man with flowing white hair came running from the back of the team. He panted as he spoke to the leader, "We've got a situation!"
"What is it?" the leader asked.
"Cops! A squad of them is heading this way, and it looks like they're after us."
"Cops?" The leader frowned and muttered under his breath, "A bunch of snooping hounds. How did they even track us here?"
"Are you referring to the security officers?" You Xuan turned to Gui Ping, "You said they were doing good deeds, right?"
"Well, not exactly my words. I said they use dark powers to punish evil and uphold justice." Gui Ping clarified, "But as you know, upholding justice can sometimes lead to crossing certain lines."
You Xuan nodded in agreement. Out of ten superheroes, at least nine would have had experiences outsmarting and evading law enforcement. It was not uncommon for justice and legal boundaries to clash.
The white-haired man continued, "They've brought a whole fleet of vehicles and even an armed helicopter. Boss, I think we should-"
Before he could finish, Gui Ping interrupted in shock, "What did you guys do to warrant such a massive manhunt?"
"Oh, it's nothing much." The team leader replied nonchalantly, "There's a new casino that opened in the city recently. On the surface, it looks legitimate and properly licensed, but we discovered that the owner is actually a player of the Dark Game."
"We heard that in that casino, you can win everything. Not just wealth, but fame, beauty, luck, anything you desire. But losers will truly lose it all, even their souls. They would have to put their souls on the line, and if they lose, they become the property of the casino."
"A dark game in the form of gambling, I see." You Xuan realized.
While Duel Monsters was the most prominent form of the Dark Game, it was not the only one. In fact, the original Yu-Gi-Oh! encompassed a variety of games, not just card duels.
"Yes. As more and more souls were taken by the casino, we took notice. We challenged the casino owner and won, freeing all the souls he had captured." The leader explained, "We even burned the casino to the ground as we left. It was just a habit, you know?"
"Then why are the security officers after you?" Gui Ping asked, puzzled, "Burning down the casino sounds like a good deed."
The leader scratched his head sheepishly, "Well, I didn't know the slimy owner had connections higher up. So, after I set that fire, we suddenly became wanted."
Gui Ping: "..."
Well, at least it was just a habit.
The team leader waved his hand dismissively.
"Nakamura Kitagawa, bring your men with me. The rest of you, continue to escort the president to his rest." He smiled confidently, "We'll shake off those pesky cops in no time."
Despite the entire fleet of vehicles and the helicopter blocking their path, his tone made it sound as if he were brushing off children asking for candy.
This piqued You Xuan's curiosity about the specific methods employed by these Dark Duelists.
As seen in the original work, in this world, those with extraordinary powers often tended towards using bizarre abilities, especially those that manipulated the mind and illusions, which were more common.
If one could use dark powers to materialize card effects, the types of abilities they could employ would be even more diverse. Weather control, elemental magic, energy projection—almost anything was possible.
You Xuan recalled that the Duel Disk he had obtained from the AI, Alpha, during the last attack on the Academy Island, had a similar function, able to materialize holographic images, but its power was ultimately limited by the output of the Duel Disk itself.
He hoped that he would have the opportunity to learn how to harness dark powers in the future.
No, a simpler way might be to come across a powerful dark artifact.
The Millennium Items had disappeared into the underworld along with the Pharaoh, but even if they were still around, they would choose their masters and could potentially come with the risk of backlash, not something everyone could handle. Besides, those were world-ending, top-tier artifacts.
If there was a slightly lower-tier artifact, You Xuan believed that he might be able to wield it.
The remaining team members quickly escorted their charges to their accommodations. Gui Ping soon joined Kaiba in his room, and the brothers busied themselves with their computers.
You Xuan couldn't really contribute much at the moment. However, on their way there, he had spotted a local Duel Arena just a street away, and it sparked a bit of interest in him.
With nothing urgent to attend to, he decided to head to the arena to warm up and also to experience the local dueling culture and share some of the elite dueling techniques from this year's Duel Academy.
Although it was dinnertime, he wasn't particularly hungry as he had eaten well on the president's plane. Nevertheless, there was a snack street nearby, and it would be nice to sample some local specialties.
Before leaving, he asked Gui Ping if he wanted to join, but Gui Ping was busy typing away on his computer and declined.
It was getting late, and the evening chill had set in. The cold prickled his skin, and the street was devoid of the usual bustle of people and traffic, leaving only an eerie silence.
The snack street, when he arrived, was equally deserted. The air seemed frozen, and even the wind held its breath, as if afraid to disturb the strange tranquility. The distant streetlights shone forlornly in the dusky twilight, casting mottled shadows that made the empty street seem even more desolate.
Something was amiss.
You Xuan realized this immediately. It was not yet late enough for the streets to be deserted, especially this particular street.
This signified a high probability of one possibility.
You Xuan turned around and, as expected, saw a figure standing behind him in the moonlight. The person had a slender build, red hair, and the lower half of their face covered. Their eyes held a playful glint.
"Fujiki You Xuan, a student of Duel Academy, recognized by Seto Kaiba, and even invited to accompany him to this city—a Duelist."
A strange, distorted voice, as if modified by a voice changer, echoed.
The figure held up a Duel Disk as they spoke.
"I'd like to have a little match with you. I hope that's not a problem."
This duel might be a little longer as well.
