Chapter 250: Ambush
Chapter 250: Ambush
In a world bereft of the protection of the ancient gods, aligning oneself with a 'True God' was undoubtedly the best choice to safeguard one's essence from the covetous desires of the Otherworldly Evil Deities.
After all, the 'True Gods' sought an endless harvest of faith from mortals, unlike the Evil Deities who would exhaust their resources like a drying pond.
For Karl, what he desired was to slay divine retainers to acquire essence, and allying with a true god's servant would be safer and more effective.
Lady Mewaya...
No one knew what this woman truly wanted, but she seemed equally interested in slaying the evil deity's servants.
Since they were going to join forces against a common enemy, it was only natural to familiarize themselves with each other's strengths and methods.
"I possess the bloodline of the God of Slumber, granting me innate abilities in hypnosis and cursing death, though these powers are largely ineffective against evil deity servants," Karl began.
Lady Mewaya spoke first, "Additionally, I acquired a pair of Fourth Rank Gauntlets from the Divine Realm some years ago, capable of effortlessly slicing through any being below Third Rank."
As she spoke, she raised her hands, revealing a pair of well-groomed, refined hands that shimmered with a fleshy luster. It was difficult to notice the gloves she wore unless one looked closely.
Fourth Rank?
The others' faces turned solemn, while Karl's eyebrows arched slightly.
He had witnessed Lady Mewaya's prowess; with a mere flick of her fingers, a lower-rank deity servant was torn apart, bone from flesh, without any resistance.
The gauntlets were genuine!
But Lady Mewaya was not limited to just this pair of gloves.
Having been trapped in the City of Death for centuries, with her cultivation unable to progress, she most likely honed her martial skills and secret arts.
Holy Techniques?
Divine Techniques?
At the very least, her flight technique was exceptionally powerful.
"I am a native of this world, walking the path of a knight," Karl continued, "and by chance, I earned the recognition of the God of Carnage, becoming one of His servants. My primary method is close-quarters combat, and I possess the cultivation of a mid-stage Second Rank. I've cultivated several holy techniques."
Hmm?
Lady Mewaya blinked in surprise.
In her impression, Karl exuded a savage aura, which didn't seem to match a mid-stage Second Rank, but rather resembled a high-stage Second Rank or even an upper-rank Third Rank servant.
However, considering that the deity he followed was the God of Carnage, it made sense.
Servants of such deities often possessed strength beyond their rank.
Lady Mewaya, on the other hand, shook her head inwardly.
She wasn't aware of all of Karl's abilities, but the presence of a Third Rank Abyssal bloodline on his body couldn't be faked.
"I, Nyctos," Nyctos spoke, "a middle-rank servant of the God of Death, possess a Second Rank death scythe and a ghost tome. That's about it."
"Mewaya," Lady Mewaya added, "a middle-rank servant of the Radiant Deity, granted Second Rank initial cultivation by the deity. I've cultivated some light-based divine arts and possess a Third Rank staff."
"I can restore you!"
"Hehe..." Nyctos gave a dry laugh, seemingly resentful that the others had Third Rank items:
"If you don't want to kill us, don't mention restoration."
"Oh..." Lady Mewaya paused, then realized,
"I forgot."
Whether it was the God of Slumber or the God of Death, both held an innate aversion to light, and for Lady Mewaya and Nyctos, Lady Mewaya's restoration abilities were akin to poison.
As for Karl...
His physical body could transform into a great abyssal squid, and he possessed Second Rank Life Water, making his recovery abilities already exaggerated. Unless it was a Third Rank divine art, it would be difficult to enhance further.
"Let's leave it at that!"
Lady Mewaya stood up,
"I'll inform you when it's time to make our move."
"Um..." Lady Mewaya slowly raised her right hand, asking tentatively,
"Your Highness, may I start spreading faith now?"
Nyctos's eyes lit up, and he too looked up, clearly eager.
"As you wish." Lady Mewaya waved her hand,
"Just don't start a fight."
"Rest assured," Lady Mewaya nodded firmly,
"The doctrine of the Radiant Deity encourages people to embrace goodness. I will teach the faithful to view death with the right perspective."
Nyctos chuckled.
The lord of Marsh City, King, was a stout man with short legs, rapidly running on Fourth Rank legs.
Reaching the stone steps leading to the summit, he knelt on one knee,
"Your Highness!"
"Hmm."
Lady Mewaya stood with her back to the stone pavilion, her eyes narrowed as she gazed down at the city below, a cold smile on her face,
"Your ample fat has given birth to a kind heart.
"If I didn't contact you, did you really agree to change your faith to the Water Tide Deity of the Otherworld?"
"I dare not!" King, male, was drenched in sweat.
"I just thought that this rain can't go on forever. We need to find a way out for the city's people."
"Since I conveyed the words of the Water Tide Deity, there hasn't been any rain near Marsh City for several days."
"Hmph," Lady Mewaya scoffed.
"Will he come today?"
"Yes," King hurriedly nodded.
"His name is Hong Qiu. It's a strange name, but he's quite punctual despite his domineering nature."
"He said he'd definitely come today."
"Good," Mewaya spoke.
"You wait at the foot of the mountain. If he comes, fine, but if he doesn't, you don't need to return."
King's face paled, and he bid farewell with a meek nod.
"Your Highness."
Nyctos watched King's retreating figure and frowned.
"Can we trust him?"
"Deities' servants have methods to interrogate and extract the truth. It's not easy to hide their true intentions."
"Rest assured," Mewaya assured.
"He's my Bloodline Knight."
Nyctos understood.
A Bloodline Knight would never betray their creator, and even the slightest hint of dissent would be known to Mewaya.
"Wait!"
Karl closed his eyes, allowing the cold wind and fine rain to wash over him.
...
"He's here!"
It was unclear how long had passed.
Mewaya suddenly spoke, causing Karl to open his eyes. Nyctos and Mewaya's reactions were a beat slower.
In the distance, within the rain, a crystal-clear water dragon emerged, carrying with it a storm of wind and rain as it rushed forward.
They focused their gaze on the dragon.
Standing atop the massive water dragon were two figures.
"One is an Upper Rank Servant, the other a Middle Rank Devotee, just as we suspected," Mewaya narrowed her eyes and said.
"I'll hold off Hong Qiu. You three take care of the other Middle Rank Devotee, then we'll deal with them together."
"Yes!" Nyctos agreed, transforming into a black smoke that surged upwards, his Death Scythe aimed at the water dragon.
At the same time, a ghost tome appeared behind his head, its pages flipping as it silently locked onto the figures on the water dragon.
"A Death Deity Servant?"
Hong Qiu was taken aback by this, then his face filled with disdain.
"A Middle Rank Devotee isn't spreading faith in hiding, yet they come here to seek death!"
"Swish!"
Before he finished speaking, a crystal-clear palm appeared in their perception.
The palm's slender fingers were like a perfect work of art, subconsciously drawing one's attention.
Wait!
After all, Hong Qiu was an Upper Rank Servant, and a Third Rank at that. He instantly sensed something amiss, and his eyes flashed with cold light.
"Boom!"
A small water ball appeared out of thin air in front of the palm.
The water ball wasn't large, but the water droplets within each weighed a thousand pounds. If this burst, it could shatter even a mountain.
Such a display of power, precision, and control was something only a Third Rank expert could achieve.
A loud crash echoed.
Mewaya had to dodge and retreat.
But in an instant, she was upon him again, her seemingly light and graceful movements forcing Hong Qiu to respond with all his might.
Unbeknownst to them, they had drifted apart from their companions.
"Great Radiant Deity, grant me the Blazing Sun, and let it become a flaming arrow to punish the wicked."
As Mewaya spoke, magical arrows of light appeared around her, aiming at the figures atop the water dragon's head.
"Ding ding dang dang!"
The sound of rapid collisions filled the air.
The soft-bodied water dragon suddenly coiled, its skin instantly transforming into golden iron, blocking out all the light arrows.
"A dragon?"
Mewaya was startled, then understanding dawned on her.
"It's a Dragon Malice Bloodline, not a divine technique-created water dragon."
Karl appeared above the water dragon, his battle aura surging forth, and a Buddha aura manifested behind him.
"Ten Thousand Buddha Hands - Dragon Subjugation Seal!"
