Chapter 25: The Final Preparations for Annie's Revenge
Chapter 25: The Final Preparations for Annie's Revenge
After leaving the Baron's estate, Su Yu headed toward the Mage Guild in the eastern part of the village.
As he walked, he recalled the main storyline of the "Maid of Orlan" from his previous life.
This main storyline originated from the Golden Rose Empire, a vast and intricate world within the game "Evolution." The human realm alone encompassed three empires, over a dozen kingdoms, and hundreds of principalities, not to mention the surrounding realms of elves, orcs, goblins, and pandaren.
The Golden Rose Empire was one of the three major human empires.
Currently, "Evolution" was in its first expansion, with only the Golden Rose Empire and its affiliated kingdoms and principalities accessible. More areas would be unlocked with future updates.
The "Maid of Orlan" storyline was the primary narrative of the first expansion, spanning the entire Golden Rose Empire.
It told the tale of a rural girl named Garcia, who met the imperial princess, led the empire's army, and ultimately defeated the northern rebels.
At the time, almost all players were involved in this main event, though most only participated in minor side quests. The few lucky ones who managed to join the main storyline were a rarity.
Su Yu had entered the game too late to experience the earlier expansions and had only a cursory understanding of the entire event from the lore compiled by veteran players.
He remembered that the lore enthusiasts had noted that the "Maid of Orlan" storyline bore a striking resemblance to the real-life story of Joan of Arc, the "Maid of Orleans." Both were rural girls who led their nation's armies, and both symbolized the will of their countries.
Joan of Arc was known as the "Maid of Orleans," and Garcia was eventually ennobled as the "Maid of Orlan."
Beyond this, Su Yu knew little more.
However, the opportunity to participate in the "Maid of Orlan" main quest was a tremendous stroke of luck! The rewards for completing the main quest were incredibly generous, and even someone like Su Yu, who had access to an "infinite gold" cheat, was eager to obtain them.
Upon entering the Mage Guild, Su Yu exchanged two "Honor Medals" for two skill scrolls.
The first one, naturally, was for "Blink."
For the second "Honor Medal," after much deliberation, Su Yu decided to exchange it for "Invisibility."
"Invisibility" was one of the most difficult spells for mages to obtain, and it was a utility spell that Su Yu sorely needed. He already had plenty of damage-dealing abilities, but functional spells like this were in short supply.
After receiving the two skill scrolls, Su Yu immediately learned them.
Blink (Excellent): Teleports you 15 meters forward, stopping if there are obstacles. Removes all stun and immobilize effects. Instant cast, 15-second cooldown, 20 mana cost.
Invisibility (Excellent): Enters "Invisibility" mode after a 3-second cast, lasting 20 seconds. Attacking or casting a spell cancels the "Invisibility" effect. Instant cast, 5-minute cooldown, 30 mana cost.
With these two spells, Su Yu's survivability was significantly enhanced, no longer relying solely on "Ice Shield" and dodging.
Su Yu then upgraded both skills to the Rare quality.
After the upgrade, "Blink" had a 20-meter teleport distance and a 12-second cooldown, while "Invisibility" lasted 30 seconds and had a 4-minute cooldown.
Moreover, these skills could be manifested in the real world, where they would prove even more invaluable!
After learning the two skills, Su Yu checked the countdown for the "Annie's Revenge" quest.
There were 40 minutes and 29 seconds remaining until the arrival of the "Starcaster Dragon King."
In the next 40 minutes, Su Yu needed to make the best possible preparations for this quest.
Su Yu opened a private chat window with Snowflake: "Snowflake, if you were to handle the 'Annie's Revenge' quest, what would you do?"
Earlier, while completing a quest at the Baron's Estate, the curious Snowflake had privately messaged Su Yu to ask about the follow-up quest to "Tears of the Goddess Savie."
Su Yu didn't hide anything and told Snowflake about the subsequent quests, including "Annie's Revenge."
Now, Su Yu was asking Snowflake for advice, as she was a "witness" to the events.
"Emmm..."
Snowflake thought for a long time before replying, "I remember there's a cliff near the Wolf King Valley on the west side of the village. If it were me, I'd stand at the edge of the cliff and jump off 2 to 3 seconds before the 'Starforged Dragon King' arrives."
"Using gravity, my character could reach a very high speed, which might allow me to dodge the fatal attack."
"Hmm, that makes sense," Su Yu replied.
He hadn't considered jumping off a cliff, but since Snowflake suggested it, it was likely to be a trap.
"How about it? Are you going to use my idea?" Snowflake replied excitedly.
Su Yu: "No, I have another plan."
Snowflake: "What's your idea, then?"
Su Yu: "If you want to know, come to the village chief's place in 40 minutes, but stay far away."
Su Yu finished his reply and closed the private chat window.
Su Yu's plan was simple: stand next to the village chief.
As the most prominent "star" in the newbie village, the chief was surrounded by the most players and NPCs.
Moreover, the chief's special status meant that the "Starforged Dragon King" would likely control the attack range to avoid harming the chief.
As long as the "Starforged Dragon King's" attack range was less than 20 meters, Su Yu could easily dodge it using the "Blink" spell, thus completing the quest!
"Alright, I'll do it this way!"
After reviewing his plan and finding no flaws, Su Yu decided to go ahead with it.
Before heading to the village chief, Su Yu needed to buy some equipment to increase his movement speed, enhancing his chances of survival.
So, he went to the trading post and bought all the movement speed-enhancing gear he could.
Most of these items were leather armor:
- Shadowmoon Cloak (Level 1, Excellent) (Defense 5, +0.4 movement speed)
- Assassin's Pauldrons (Level 2, Excellent) (Defense +4, +0.2 movement speed)
- Shadow Longboots (Level 1, Excellent) (Defense +5, +0.5 movement speed)
These green items, which only increased movement speed, were considered weak by most players, but they were perfect for Su Yu.
With these leather armors on, Su Yu transformed into a more assassin-like player.
His movement speed increased to 2.4.
A movement speed of 2.4 meant he could walk 2.4 meters per second and run at a speed of 12 meters per second, far exceeding the average human limit!
Wearing this gear, Su Yu arrived at the village center and stood next to the village chief.
There were 29 minutes and 12 seconds left before the "Starforged Dragon King" arrived.
The village chief was a white-bearded old man, currently smiling and assigning quests to players.
He had no idea that disaster was about to strike!
