Chapter 25: Roommates
Chapter 25: Roommates
"In summary, these are the key points to take note of. As long as everyone pays attention, we won't lose any House points.
But even if we occasionally slip up and lose points, it's not a big deal. We Hufflepuffs don't care about that. As long as we have a great time at Hogwarts, that's all that matters."
Prefect Harris was speaking to the crowd, while Kyle sat on the outskirts, silent and keeping his head down.
"Kyle, there you are. I've been looking for you for ages."
At that moment, Cedric approached, casually handing him a glass of juice, "Fresh orange juice. It's a great choice before bedtime."
Kyle didn't take it, not even lifting his head. He simply waved Cedric away, indicating that he didn't need it.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"No, I'm just feeling a bit tired," Kyle replied without lifting his head, his voice slightly rushed. "And I don't like to drink anything before bed. You can ask someone else."
This unusual behavior naturally piqued Cedric's curiosity. He tentatively took two steps to the left, only to find Kyle turning in the opposite direction almost simultaneously.
Something was definitely off, more than a little.
"Okay, I'll ask the other First-Years," Cedric quickly walked to the side, took a deep breath, and moved with utmost silence. He circled around and lay down in front of Kyle, calculating the position before quickly rolling onto the ground.
Kyle, who had been thinking about when he could return to the dormitory, suddenly found himself face-to-face with a fluffy head.
The two stared at each other...
"Kyle, what happened to your eye? It's so swollen."
"Nothing!"
Kyle quickly raised his hand to cover his left eye, speaking earnestly, "I accidentally bumped into a table. It's normal to have bruises and swellings."
"Could you get such a round bruise from a fall?" Cedric sat down on the ground, stroking his chin. "It looks like someone punched you."
"Impossible! You're overthinking it!" Kyle insisted, "Even if you don't believe me, would you not believe Hufflepuff? Hufflepuff is the warmest family in Hogwarts. How could there be such a violent person here?"
"That's true," Cedric nodded in agreement.
He didn't believe that a Hufflepuff would beat up a First-Year on the first day; such things usually only happened in Slytherin.
But he still couldn't understand how the 'black eye' could be so perfectly round if it was from a fall.
A natural talent?
Just as Cedric was pondering this, Prefect Harris finished his speech.
"Starting today, we are all part of the same family. If you need any help, just ask. Don't be shy.
Hufflepuff is a warm family. Every senior will help you, including me.
You must be tired by now. I'll take you to your respective dormitories. Patty, you're in charge of the girls' side."
Kyle felt like he had been pardoned, quickly getting up from the sofa and following the group. Before leaving, he didn't even say goodbye to Cedric.
Led by Harris, Kyle soon arrived at his dormitory.
Like the common room, the main colors here were also yellow and gold.
The bronze lamp cast a warm glow on the four-poster beds, and on the wall hung a bronze warming pan, which kept the beds of the young wizards at the most comfortable temperature.
There were two other people in the same dormitory as Kyle.
Michael Drake was a small, dark-haired boy.
The other was blond and relatively stocky, named Ryan Banks.
Well, both were ordinary people with no reputation.
As for the remaining bed, it was empty, presumably due to an insufficient number of new students.
Kyle tilted his head, greeted the two briefly, and climbed into bed.
"Hey, this is so amazing, isn't it? I'm actually a wizard," said Michael, sitting on the edge of the bed with great enthusiasm. "No one in my family can do magic. My dad sells drilling machines, and my mom works at a bank. So when I first received that letter, I thought it was just a prank. I never imagined it to be true.
Haha, Hogwarts... I still think I'm dreaming."
"I'm half-and-half, what wizards often call a half-blood."
Ryan, with his golden hair, chimed in, "My dad is a wizard, and my mom is a Muggle. She was quite scared when she found out the truth."
"That's for sure. People who haven't been exposed to magic are like that," said Michael. "You can't imagine that when Professor Quirrell appeared in our house, my parents almost called the police.
He just stood in front of us like that, suddenly, and said something about what's it called... transposition... movement?"
"Apparition," Kyle whispered from the side.

"Yeah, that's right. It's Apparition," he said.
Michael looked over, and suddenly his eyes lit up. "Hey, I remember you. You're the one who took twenty minutes to be sorted, Kyle Jopab, right?"
"That's right. Nice to meet you," Kyle replied.
"Um, can you tell us what happened?" Michael asked curiously. "Why did your Sorting take so long, twenty minutes? Longer than the combined time of all the new students."
"It's not a big deal," Kyle thought for a moment and said. "It's just that the Sorting Hat was always hesitating about where to place me and never made up its mind."
"Oh, I see," Michael sighed. "To make that hat think for so long, you must be exceptional."
Kyle just smiled and didn't speak.
He was undoubtedly exceptional, but this had nothing to do with the Sorting Hat.
Moreover, if Michael knew the real reason the Sorting Hat was hesitant, he probably wouldn't have said that.
For the next period, Michael was like a chicken on steroids, constantly talking.
He went on and on, from Diagon Alley to Gringotts, and from Gringotts to choosing a wand, without stopping in between.
Apparently, becoming a wizard made him very happy.
At first, Kyle and Ryan could still chime in, but gradually, the dormitory was left with only Michael's voice.
There was no way to keep up.
Feeling sleepy after a full meal, and having taken a train ride of over ten hours, it was already a challenge to stay awake.
Kyle also wanted to chat with his roommates and build some friendship, but the cozy bed was too tempting, and he unknowingly fell asleep.
Ryan, beside him, fell asleep even faster; there had been no movement from him for the past five minutes.
