Chapter 25: Halloween Boss: Troll - Part 2
Just as Harry and his friends were flushed with excitement and starting to run back down the corridor, they heard a loud bang. Harry turned around and saw that the door they had just locked had been smashed open by a stick.
A shard of the door flew directly toward Harry. As he closed his eyes, bracing for impact, a strong force pulled him to the ground, and the shard flew over his head.
It turned out Liam had followed them and, seeing the danger, had pulled Harry down.
"Sure enough, Trolls have some level of intelligence. If there's no one in the bathroom, they will attack the nearest person, like the two who just locked them in", Liam thought to himself.
"The bathroom door can't hold a Troll", Liam shouted to Harry. "The noise you made when locking the door must have roused the Troll. We need to find a way to trap it in the bathroom, or we won't be able to outrun it in this place." With that, Liam cast a new offensive spell he had just learned.
"Scorching Heat"
Unfortunately, the spell had little effect. The Troll simply used its arm to block it and continued to try to squeeze through the small door.
At that moment, Ron and Harry also reacted, casting their own spells at the Troll.
"Grinning Hiss"
"Tarantelle"
The two spells hit the Troll, causing it to pause for a moment, but it remained agitated, using the stick in its hand to bash the doorframe in an attempt to break free. It seemed the books were right about Trolls having strong magical resistance.
Hermione, having composed herself, used the Levitation Charm to direct the faucet the Troll had knocked down. She made it collide with the bathroom floor, creating a loud noise.
With its low intelligence, the Troll ignored the four people in front of it and turned to investigate the source of the noise.
Seizing the opportunity, the four of them quietly retreated, trying to get out of the Troll's range.
After they had moved about twenty meters, a loud roar came from the bathroom. It seemed the Troll had realized it had been tricked and that its tormentors had escaped.
Hearing Liam shout, "Run!" the four of them sprinted down the corridor.
The enraged Troll pushed through the walls on either side of the bathroom door, breaking out and chasing after them. The sharp edges of the broken walls pierced the skin on its palms, leaving a trail of foul-smelling blood on the corridor floor.
"What do we do now?" Ron asked nervously, noticing the Troll was getting closer.
"We need to circle around and find a place the Troll can't get through. We can't run to the Great Hall; there might be other students there, and we can't lead the monster to them", Liam replied.
Turning a corner, they saw a tightly closed door. It was a small, ancient wooden door covered in iron, only a meter wide and two meters high, looking like a good place to hide.
After Harry used Alohomora, they found the space inside was not small; it seemed to be a storage room filled with old brooms, buckets, and other clutter.
The four of them squeezed in, closed the door, and retreated to the back of the room.
Soon, they heard the heavy footsteps of the Troll stop outside the door, followed by the disgusting sound of its sniffling.
"Will it find us?" Hermione asked, her voice trembling.
"It might, but it can't fit through this small door", Liam reassured her.
As soon as the words left his mouth, the door was smashed open with a loud bang. The Troll tried to squeeze in, but the door's size only allowed it to extend its head or an arm inside.
The Troll attempted to repeat its previous trick, but this time the wall remained unmoving. In a frenzy, the Troll used its hand to swing a club, smashing nearby objects and sending them flying. Occasionally, it would poke its head in, its bloodshot eyes searching for the four people. However, this did nothing to harm the four of them, who were hiding behind several shelves.
Liam watched the Troll's head pop in and out, then glanced around the storeroom. Suddenly, he had a bold idea.
"Can you break the chain holding the Iron Chandelier above?" Liam asked.
"We three together should be able to do it", Harry replied.
"Great. Get ready. When I count to three, attack the chain together, and I'll have a plan to deal with the Troll."
"Ready." ×3
"1—2—3, go! Wingardium Leviosa."
Harry and the others cast their spells, breaking the chain that held the chandelier. However, Liam's spell kept the chandelier suspended in mid-air.
Liam slowly moved the chandelier toward the door, then released his spell the moment the Troll poked its head in to investigate.
The Iron Chandelier, with its jagged edges, whistled through the air from a height of about six meters and smashed into the Troll's head, sending it crashing to the ground with a deafening thud.
One of the chandelier's corners struck the Troll's back of the head, opening a large gash from which red and white fluids oozed out. The Troll's neck formed an odd angle, clearly broken.
The Troll's body then collapsed, blocking the door to the room.
"It's over, we're safe now", Liam said. The four of them slid down the wall, gasping for breath. They realized their legs were weak from the tension and fear they had just experienced.
After a few minutes of silence in the darkness, Hermione, trembling, asked, "Is this monster—dead?"
"Probably", Liam replied. "I don't think a Troll could survive that."
Suddenly, a series of violent bangs and heavy footsteps echoed through the room. The four of them looked up, realizing they had made quite a commotion. Surely, the people downstairs must have heard the loud collisions and the Troll's roars.
moments later, Professor Flitwick used magic to move the Troll's body blocking the door. Professor Mcgonagall lit her wand and rushed into the room, followed closely by Snape and Quirrell.
Quirrell glanced at the Troll and let out a weak sob, sitting down on a box and clutching his chest.
Snape bent down to examine the Troll. Professor Mcgonagall looked at the four students. Liam had never seen her so angry.
Then, Professor Snape stood up, his face showing surprise. "The Troll is dead. Was it the Levitation Charm?"
"Yes", Liam replied, finally able to see the splattered brain matter in the light. A wave of nausea washed over him, and he answered with a pale face.
"You killed a Troll. That's a difficult feat even for a fully grown wizard. For four first-year students, I would like to commend your bravery and spellcasting. However, before that, I need you to come with me to see Headmaster Dumbledore. This incident resulted in the death of a magical creature and nearly cost you your lives. The headmaster must be informed personally."
With that, Professor Mcgonagall, looking serious, helped Hermione, whose legs were still shaking, and led the way. Liam and the others followed behind, heading toward Headmaster Dumbledore's Office.
