Chapter 25: Doubling Down Before the Dungeon
Chapter 25: Doubling Down Before the Dungeon
In the tavern, after Luka and Luffy left, a new wave of chaos ensued. Besides the discussions about Luka's transformation, the girls were also mercilessly mocking Leila. Without a word, a mere look of disdain and contempt was enough to make her blush and run out. After all, sneaking around and flirting were bound to end in such treatment.
Once the commotion died down and the tavern emptied, everyone went back to their homes. Only then did Makino's calm smile finally falter.
"Smiling at customers all day is exhausting."
Makino sighed, washed the last glass, and placed it in the cabinet. Then, she walked up to Auntie Elin and asked quietly,
"What did you think of what just happened?"
Auntie Elin was in her early fifties, showing signs of age but still retaining a hint of her once-stunning beauty. Her life story was quite legendary. In her youth, she had been a feared female pirate, leaving a trail of hearts broken and men fighting over her. Eventually, she grew tired of the endless drama and retreated to the secluded village of Windmill.
"Her figure and face are excellent. She has a strong waist and a well-proportioned body. Her performance should be top-notch, and she's still a virgin," Auntie Elin said after a few seconds of thought, her assessment precise and unerring.
"How can you tell all that?" Makino was taken aback.
Auntie Elin gave a cold laugh, her face proud. "You think I haven't seen enough men in my youth? I've seen more men than you've eaten sausages."
Makino: "..."
A bit disgusting. Maybe they should stop serving sausages in the tavern.
Auntie Elin thought for a moment more and added, "But, such a fine catch is indeed rare. If I were twenty years younger, I'd have tricked him at least eight times a day."
"..." Makino hesitated. "What about his character?"
"Without a doubt, he's a scumbag."
Auntie Elin's response was firm and decisive, without a moment's hesitation.
Makino: "..."
Can someone be both a scumbag and a virgin?
Auntie Elin clearly saw her confusion. "From your description, a year ago, this man seemed genuinely interested in settling down with you. Now, I can only say that whether male or female, once they have the means to attract the opposite sex, settling down becomes difficult."
"As for why he's still a virgin, it's quite simple. You said he went to the Dojo to learn swordsmanship, so naturally, he was surrounded by men. Now that he's back, he wouldn't risk being swayed by other women in front of you."
"The question is, what do you think?"
"What do I think?" Makino's eyes flickered.
She wasn't sure what she thought. There weren't many good men in Windmill Village, and Luka was decent-looking, well-off, and had even come to work at the tavern, helping her with various chores. She had been a bit smitten with him.
But then this jerk had left halfway through their relationship, saying he was going to the Frost Moon Dojo to learn swordsmanship, leaving her fuming but having to pretend it didn't bother her.
This half-in, half-out feeling was driving her crazy. Even though Luka had returned in a completely different light and tried to win her back, she had ignored him.
However, with a bit of emotional history and his newfound excellence, how could she not be a little interested?
When Leila had rushed over, Makino had inwardly cursed her as a bitch.
She was angry but had to keep smiling.
After all, they weren't officially together, so what right did she have to stop others from flirting with Luka?
Fortunately, the jerk was somewhat sensible!
Auntie Elin looked at Makino. "When two people from different backgrounds come together, one of them has to make sacrifices. He has feelings for you, but he's not particularly loyal. If you just want to have some fun, this man could be a perfect lover. If you're serious, unless you can tolerate him having other women, it's best not to be with him."
“I won’t allow my man to have other women on the side.” Makino replied firmly. “Is there any way to make him behave better?”
“There is,” Aunt Elain said, lighting a cigarette and putting it in her mouth. “You could spar with him every day until he’s exhausted. But don’t blame me for being blunt, with his physique, even ten of you together might not be a match for him.”
Makino fell silent, feeling both awkward and disappointed. She turned and left.
“Fine, I’ll just be friends with him.”
Aunt Elain shook her head. If she really wanted to be just friends, why would she ask for a solution? It was just a matter of overcoming her feelings.
Love...
The former Pirate Queen’s eyes showed a hint of nostalgia as she sighed, shook her head, and stomped out the cigarette.
It was all bullshit.
She had long since abandoned the pure love warrior mindset and embraced the Minotaur lifestyle.
Minotaurs were the future!
Makino was too young and still fixated on the differences between men and women.
The best way to deal with a bad man was to be even worse. Besides, even if Luk was still a boy, if he ever did have a woman on the side, she could always take the Minotaur approach.
“Sir, you wouldn’t want your wife to find out...”
This was a trick she used to employ when she was younger, and it worked wonders.
No man dislikes being pursued by a beautiful girl!
...
When Luk arrived at Luffy’s house, the first person he saw wasn’t Garp but Luffy and Ace’s foster mother, Kari Dadan.
She was a large, robust woman with orange curly hair tied back, wearing golden earrings, a white shirt, and dark green checkered pants. A red beaded necklace hung around her neck, and she had a cigarette in her mouth.
“Oh, looking for Garp? That old man is fishing for crocodiles in the back mountains,” Dadan said, taking a deep drag on her cigarette and frowning at Luffy. “Luffy, were you off looking for the Sea King again?”
“Nope, I haven’t even gone to the beach today. I found out Luk was back,” Luffy said, swaying on a bench. “But I’ll continue tomorrow.”
“Hey, you should try to talk some sense into him. This kid keeps talking about defeating the Sea King and becoming a pirate,” Dadan said disapprovingly. “He might end up dead one day.”
What a Jolly Roger move.
“I won’t die,” Luffy said seriously.
Luk smiled. “I don’t think Luffy will die either. He might just become the Pirate King.”
“Hmph, it’s because of you people always talking to him like that that he doesn’t understand how dangerous the outside world is,” Dadan huffed, waving her hand. “Whatever, the brat will be better off dead. Then Garp can’t blame me.”
Dadan was the classic example of a tough-talking, soft-hearted person.
If you hadn’t cried and beaten up Garp when Ace died, you’d be more convincing, Luk thought to himself as he stood up.
“Well, I’ll go visit Admiral Garp. Goodbye.”
Luffy waved goodbye cheerfully. “I won’t go with you. Grandpa will just nag me about joining the Marines.”
...
The terrain behind Windmill Village was rugged, with a light mist that lingered year-round. The plants grew wildly, like mutated monsters, and various ferocious beasts roamed the area. It was quite an achievement for young Ace and Luffy to navigate this region all the way to the garbage dump.
At the edge of a pond, Luk saw an old man with white hair sitting quietly by the water. A few crocodiles, about five or six meters long, were nearby. In the world of One Piece, they might be considered small crocodiles.
The Marine hero, Iron Fist Garp, one of the world’s top warriors.
Luk suppressed his nervousness and walked over, playing his ace from the start.
“Grandpa Garp, I came to see you.”
Just the use of “Grandpa” should boost the drop rate of any rewards, right?
