Chapter 249: Unprecedented Power
Chapter 249: Unprecedented Power
Above the southeastern domain of the Starlight Continent, the void suddenly twisted, as if an intangible claw had ripped through the sky, tearing a massive fissure in the air.
The fissure slowly widened on both sides, and a towering wizard tower seemed to swiftly fly out from it.
The massive tower was dark and gloomy, resembling a tower made of obsidian stone, glowing with a cold, ominous light.
On either side, two structures branched out like arrow and cannon turrets, complementing the straight main tower. From a distance, it looked like a black, sharp claw, emanating a chilling, eerie aura.
After a dozen breaths, the wizard tower fully detached from the fissure and hovered in the sky.
The fissure then gradually vanished.
Buzz!
An intangible wave of energy spread out from the wizard tower, swiftly enveloping a radius of several dozen kilometers in all directions.
At the same time, a cold, monotonous voice echoed from the top of the wizard tower.
[Activating the detection field, scanning a radius of thirty kilometers.]
[Measuring the concentration of energy particles.]
[Detecting magical auras.]
[Analyzing the material environment.]
[Scanning complete.]
As the voice faded, a 3D holographic map appeared in the air, with densely packed text marked on it.
Liam quickly scanned through the text, his expression slightly stiffened.
"Not bad, the energy particle concentration on the Starlight Continent is almost back to the levels of two millennia ago."
Behind Liam, two other wizards stood.
The one on the left had half his face missing, exposing ghastly white bone, a terrifying sight.
The one on the right had a complete face, except for a white bone head on his neck, with two green flames flickering in the hollow eye sockets, faintly revealing a canine creature.
Hearing Liam's words, the bone-faced wizard revealed a sinister grin, his voice hoarse. "If it weren't for the Elemental Wasteland, the energy particle concentration and resources on the Starlight Continent would be much better than many other planes. If we can secure the Starlight Continent before other wizard factions, we'll gain another resource plane."
Another canine-headed wizard clicked his tongue, somewhat regretfully. "Unfortunately, the resources on the Starlight Continent haven't fully recovered to their peak. Otherwise, we could have scavenged everything and had decades of cultivation resources."
"Be grateful," the bone-faced wizard chuckled. "If that were the case, this mission wouldn't have been ours. It would have been snatched by the descendants of the Crowned Wizards long ago!"
The canine-headed wizard pursed his lips but didn't argue, clearly agreeing with his companion.
The descendants of the Crowned wizards were a pack of insatiable wolves, seizing any high-reward, low-risk tasks, leaving only the tough bones.
Occasionally, they encountered tasks with low difficulty, but the rewards were too low for the Crowned descendants to bother with, leaving them the leftovers.
In the cutthroat-eat world of the Dark Throne, they were the exploited, usually in a precarious position.
"Alright, no more idle talk."
Liam interrupted them, his tone grave.
"The energy particle concentration here still can't match the Obsidian Plane. Wasting too much time here would hinder our cultivation. Let's resolve matters quickly and return."
The bone-faced wizard and the canine-headed wizard thought it over. The latter took a bone crow, placing it in his mouth and blew hard.
No sound, just an intangible wave rippled through the void, spreading to the distant void.
After that, the three of them waited patiently.
Half a day passed, and no one arrived.
As time flowed, Liam's face grew increasingly grim.
The bone-faced wizard and canine-headed wizard sensed something was off, their brows furrowed.
"What if they're trapped by something?"
"What on this continent could trap twelve wizards? Besides, even if they were temporarily stuck, a bone crow could still send a message, right? But now, it's clearly an issue!"
As they spoke, Liam suddenly moved, reaching out into the void, a bone crow appeared, struggling in his palm.
Seeing the bone crow, the bone-faced wizard and canine-headed wizard relaxed.
Since the bone crow had a message, the situation shouldn't be too bad.
However, they soon realized something was indeed wrong, as the bone crow clearly had no intention of conveying a message.
Liam's eyes flashed, his fingers tightly clenched, and with a crack, the bone was crushed to a pea-sized blue light point that floated out from the shattered bone.
Liam's lightning finger touched the blue light point, and instantly, a faint ripple of light spread out, forming a mirror-like light screen that floated in the air.
The light screen flickered, showing a scene.
The quality of the scene wasn't very clear, but it was obvious that it was a battle.
One side was Evan.
The other side was three identical-looking girls and four huge metal squids.
Liam and the others immediately recognized these as puppets.
The battle lasted less than ten minutes, and Evan was quickly defeated and taken away by the puppets.
The scene ended, and the light screen dispersed into particles, slowly fading into the air.
Liam and the others' faces turned grim.
Clearly, something had gone wrong with Evan and the others.
"Evan has always been cautious; this bone puppet should have been left behind when the enemies were unprepared, as a warning to us," Liam said, his eyes dark and his expression shifting.
"It seems the twelve who first entered the Starlight Continent may already be in the hands of the enemies, with more danger than hope!"
The Bone-faced Wizard frowned and said, "But that shouldn't be possible. The Starlight Continent has been sealed for a thousand years, resources are scarce, and it's impossible for a powerful presence to emerge. With twelve wizards, how could they all fail?"
"It's hard to believe, but the facts are right in front of us," Liam said, his tone low and grim. "Capturing Evan with those puppets clearly shows they are Wizard-level puppets, which means something."
The Bone-faced Wizard and the Dog-head Wizard fell silent, their expressions uncertain.
They, of course, knew what this meant.
The creation of Wizard-level puppets required resources, skills, and strength, all of which were essential.
If it were just a couple of Wizard-level puppets, they might have come from some Wizard's legacy.
than seven Wizard-level puppets, of different kinds, likely from a powerful wizard's legacy!
This was how they found it unbelievable.
The environment of the Starlight Continent couldn't possibly give rise to a Wizard force!
To even see a single wizard was a miracle!
What had happened on the Starlight Continent over these two thousand years?
"It seems we underestimated the Starlight continent," Liam narrowed his eyes.
"Then what do we do next?" the Bone-faced wizard asked.
Liam hadn't spoken yet, and the Dog-head Wizard snorted, "Do we even need to ask? Of course, we should take revenge!"
"Even if the Star light continent has a Wizard force, what then?"
"A force that developed from the Elemental Wasteland, with a legacy of a few hundred years at most, how much power can it have?"
"We have a small Wizard Tower, no need to worry, just crush them and let these puppets know the outcome of our Dark Throne!"
Liam glanced at him and said coolly, "Don't get too excited. If they can create Wizard-level puppets, that Wizard force still has some power."
Although he said that, he deeply agreed with the other's words.
The environment restrictions were there, and even a Wizard force born from this land, no matter how strong, was limited.
It didn't even meet the standards of a recognized Wizard force in the multiverse.
Although they were only three, they had a small Wizard Tower, and destroying a pseudo-Wizard force was more than enough!
Even better, if the Starlight Continent had a Wizard force, meant the resources might not be as scarce as they imagined.
At least that unknown Wizard force must control some resources!
If they crush the Wizard force and gain resources, this trip would undoubtedly be a great success!
Thinking of this, Liam couldn't help but feel a flicker of excitement.
Looking at the other two, their eyes also flickered, clearly on the same wavelength as his.
The Dark Throne competition was fierce. A wizard without background or support faced adversity, and a rare chance to obtain a lot of resources couldn't be missed.
"Revenge is definitely to be taken, especially since we have the mission to conquer the Starlight Continent."
Liam said sternly, "But we can't act rashly. We should gather intelligence first and understand the specific situation of that Wizard force."
This was a prudent suggestion, and the Bone-Faced Wizard and the Dog-Headed Wizard naturally had no objections.
Soon, the Wizard Tower hummed and shot forward, flying swiftly toward the distant town.
The Wizard Tower flew at an incredible speed, and before long, the outline of a town appeared in the distance.
"Go straight to the local noble lord; these guys know more things," Liam said gravely.
The Dog-Headed Wizard grinned and said, "I'll go. My skeletal hounds haven't eaten in a long time, and this town will be enough to feed them a full meal."
Liam glanced at him, his face expressionless as he nodded.
It was just a human city. Slaying waste would yield useful information, and Liam didn’t want to argue about it.
After all, these two weren't his subordinates; they were just temporary teammates for this mission. Although his status as a Level 2 Wizard could command some respect, he couldn’t order them around.
As they spoke, the Wizard Tower drew closer to the town, and they could already see the full view of it.
Suddenly, the void ahead twisted, and a sky of emerald blue seemed to be split open, revealing a massive crack.
To the shock of Liam and the others, a towering spire emerged from the crack.
"Wizard Tower!"
The Dog-Headed Wizard’s face changed abruptly, and he exclaimed in horror.
Liam and the Bone-Faced Wizard were equally stunned.
What’s happening?
Why would a Wizard Tower appear here?
Could it be that another Wizard faction has invaded the Starlight Continent ahead of them?
Is it the Withered Council? The Savage Spirits? Or the Deep Blue Alliance, those cunning fellows?
Liam’s face darkened, and he felt something was amiss.
"This Wizard Tower’s architectural style doesn’t indicate which Wizard faction it belongs to," the Bone-Faced Wizard frowned, turning to Liam, "What should we do?"
Liam hesitated upon hearing this.
But he didn’t need to ponder long, as the decision was made for him from the other side.
A thunderous hum suddenly echoed from the sky, as if countless beasts were roaring in unison, their voices merging into a deafening roar.
Following that, the opposing Wizard Tower suddenly lit up with a blinding magical aura, and countless thick beams shot out, pelting the Dark Wizard Tower where Liam was with a storm of wind and rain.
Buzz!
The Dark Wizard Tower’s protective energy field activated instantly, a distorted energy field enveloping the entire tower, blocking the countless beams!
However, Liam and the others were horrified.
"Is this a Spell Cannon Tower?"
"It must be, but the power is too intense!"
"The key is the number. I saw clearly that the tower just fired three hundred spell beams at once!"
Liam and the others were utterly shocked.
A standard small Wizard Tower usually had about a hundred Spell Cannons.
At best, it might have a hundred fifty or sixty.
It wasn’t that the builders of the Wizard Tower couldn’t afford more Spell Cannons, but the energy of the Wizard Tower was limited.
Equipping three hundred Spell Cannons could significantly boost the long-range firepower, but a few volleys of simultaneous fire would drain the energy of the Wizard Tower, making it pointless.
Even a Wizard Tower with a hundred or more Spell Cannons wouldn’t use all of them in battle, but rather would use a specific number based on the situation, often targeting specific points with a few.
The opposing Wizard Tower, clearly a small one, was equipped with three hundred Spell Cannons, which was beyond Liam and the others’ comprehension!
It was utterly unreasonable!
Moreover, those Spell Cannons were much more powerful than normal Spell Cannons!
The first volley of simultaneous fire reduced the Dark Wizard Tower’s protective energy field by more than three-quarters!
Even a single plasma cannon’s damage wasn’t this terrifying!
"Bluffing and posturing!"
Recovering from his shock, the Dog-Headed Wizard’s eyes flashed, and he sneered coldly.
"I don’t believe a Wizard Tower’s energy can sustain such attacks; that first volley must have drained their elemental pool!"
A small elemental pool’s energy was limited and couldn’t support so many Spell Cannons firing densely.
However, as soon as he finished speaking, the opposing Wizard Tower lit up again with a blinding magical aura, and a dense barrage of spell beams shot out, striking the Dark Wizard Tower with a deafening impact!
