Chapter 249: Sorry, I Lied to You!
Chapter 249: Sorry, I Lied to You!
"Hiss~ (Speak to me, Slytherin—the greatest of the four founders of Hogwarts!)"
Lockhart spat out his words in Parseltongue, but after a long wait, the statue of Slytherin behind him remained motionless. His heart sank, and he tried again, unwilling to give up.
"Are you calling that Basilisk? Since I've been into the Chamber of Secrets, do you think I would let it live until today?" Ivan said with a cold laugh, closing the distance between himself and Lockhart. He continued, "It looks like Tom didn't tell you much. I bet he didn't mention that you need to close your eyes when calling the Basilisk, right?"
When they were within three meters of each other, Ivan's black eyes instantly turned into orange-yellow vertical snake eyes.
Before Lockhart could understand the meaning of Ivan's words, his mind went blank. Ivan's eyes seemed like vortices, swallowing his thoughts and soul.
"Expelliarmus!"
With Ivan's shout, Lockhart regained consciousness, but he felt as if he had been hit by a bull, tumbling and crashing into the Slytherin stone statue behind him.
His Wand flew out of his hand, spinning in the air before landing in Ivan's grasp.
Ivan took the Wand, glancing at the Magic Power Level in his status bar, which had decreased by about one-tenth.
Ivan sighed; Wizards were indeed much more resistant to Magic Power than ordinary creatures.
He had only used the snake eyes for less than a second, not to kill Lockhart, but to paralyze him, preventing him from using the Protective Cloak. He then used magic to break down his resistance.
The Protective Cloak was a magical item he had crafted himself with many precious materials, and it would take a lot of time to break it normally.
Only by striking unexpectedly could he win and save Magic Power.
Ivan stepped closer to Lockhart, who, having been slammed against the statue, tried to get up in terror but found his body unbearably heavy, as if filled with lead. He managed to lift his right hand, only to have it stepped on by a foot.
"Tell me, where is Tom Riddle now?" Ivan pressed his foot on Lockhart's right hand, removed some of his magical equipment, and pointed his Wand at Lockhart's cheek, his eyes cold and merciless.
"I don't know", Lockhart said, terrified, looking at the glowing tip of Ivan's Wand.
"Do you want to try the taste of the Cruciatus Curse?" Ivan wouldn't use the curse, but it didn't stop him from using it as a threat.
Lockhart knew about the Unforgivable Curses, and the mention of the Cruciatus Curse sent a shiver down his spine. He racked his brain, trying to think of where Tom Riddle might be.
"He must be looking for something on the eighth floor of the castle! He told me you often go there and get in the way, and he hopes I can find a way to lead you away", Lockhart suddenly said.
Ivan's heart sank, and he had a bad feeling.
Tom probably wanted to go to the eighth floor's Room of Requirement, looking for the second Horcrux, Ravenclaw's Diadem!
Due to the previous attacks, he hadn't dared to go to the Room of Requirement for some time, which suited Tom's plan.
"So you brought that Ravenclaw girl to the eighth floor and framed me?" Thinking of this, Ivan's anger flared, and his black eyes subtly turned into orange-yellow vertical pupils.
Lockhart felt as if he was about to die in that moment, but the next second, Ivan’s eyes returned to normal. He quickly protested, "No, I didn’t do it! It was the Diary that controlled me!"
Lockhart hurriedly explained to Ivan.
After obtaining the Diary, Tom Riddle had imparted a great deal of magical knowledge to him and asked for his help in restoring his power. In return, Tom Riddle promised to help him become a true master of magic.
At the time, Lockhart was hesitant and did not agree.
But the next day, he lost consciousness while experimenting with a Spell. When he came to, he vaguely remembered talking to a girl who admired him and then doing something on the eighth floor.
When he reached the eighth floor, he found the girl lying in a pool of blood. Lockhart could see that the writing on the wall was his own, which was why he had hurried to destroy that wall.
After that, Lockhart was filled with fear and dread, terrified that someone might trace the attacker back to him.
So he followed Tom Riddle’s advice and handed the Horcrux over to another admirer to clear his own name.
"Tom Riddle promised me he wouldn’t kill anyone, which is why I handed the Horcrux to that Slytherin girl. You can’t kill me, or you’ll end up in Azkaban!" Lockhart said, his voice trembling.
"That’s only if they can find you and discover your body here!" Ivan retorted sarcastically.
Lockhart felt as if he had been plunged into an icy pit, but at that moment, Ivan spoke again, "However, you’re lucky. This time, I won’t kill you."
Ivan’s cold gaze fell on the relieved Lockhart. He needed someone to take the blame for these attacks, and a living Lockhart was more useful than a dead one.
But Lockhart knew too much, such as the conversations he had with Tom Riddle.
Seeing Ivan’s increasingly dangerous look, Lockhart swallowed hard, a realization dawning on him. He said in terror, "Hals, when you taught me the Obliviate Spell, you promised me you would never use it on me again!"
"Sorry, I lied!" Ivan said mercilessly, waving his Wand.
"Obliviate!"
A milky white Spell hit the defenseless Lockhart, causing his body to tremble violently before he fell unconscious.
Ivan cast a Stupefy on him to ensure he wouldn’t wake up for several hours. Then, he prepared to head to the Room of Requirement on the eighth floor, hoping that Tom hadn’t found what he was looking for yet.
But just as he turned, Ivan stopped in his tracks. From a distance, he saw a familiar figure standing in the Chamber of Secrets’ corridor.
It was a boy of about sixteen, with a handsome face and a malevolent smile on his lips.
What made Ivan most uneasy was that, compared to their last meeting, Tom Riddle’s forehead now bore an ancient, crown-like object adorned with a brilliant blue gem that shone in the dim light of the Chamber.
It was the second Horcrux, Ravenclaw’s Diadem!
