Chapter 248: Xueye Yadou and the First Encounter with the Destruction Cocoon
Chapter 248: Xueye Yadou and the First Encounter with the Destruction Cocoon
The cold wind was biting, and dark velvet-like clouds obscured most of the night sky. Under the hazy moonlight, a shadowy figure swiftly navigated through the forest, soon arriving at the Pokemon Center in Snow Mapping City.
Inside a room with the heater on, Gramps, the Genggai, eagerly extended his tongue to lick the sleeping person on the bed.
"Mmm!"
The familiar numbing sensation caused Jinghe to reach out from under the covers and instinctively grab for the nightstand.
"Hngga~~"
Gramps eagerly pulled a "Cherry Fruit" from his mouth and placed it in Jinghe's hand.
With a "crack" sound, the drowsy Jinghe rubbed his head and sat up, checking the time on his phone.
It was 1:30 am.
"Gramps, it's late at night."
"Hngga! Hngga!"
However, Gramps didn't offer much explanation and instead tried to pull Jinghe out of bed.
Seeing Gramps' eagerness, Jinghe's sleepiness instantly dissipated.
Although Gramps often did things that were out of the ordinary or unexpected, he generally had a sense of propriety. Waking Jinghe up in the middle of the night must have been for a good reason.
When Jinghe turned to look, he indeed found the reason for Gramps' urgency.
Except for the little Six-Tailed Pokemon that was making his arm a bit sore, all the other Pokemon were gone!
But Gramps' anxious demeanor made Jinghe suspect something was wrong.
"Is something wrong?"
"Hngga!"
Gramps nodded his head.
Jinghe immediately became alert, quickly getting out of bed and putting on his clothes. He then picked up the little Six-Tailed Pokemon, grabbed Gramps, and jumped out the window.
Snow Mapping City was already quite cold, and it was the middle of the night. On top of that, the contrast between the warm room and the outdoors made Jinghe shiver.
But it also fully woke him up.
"Ooh, Ooh?"
The little Six-Tailed Pokemon, still half-asleep, opened its eyes and looked around, realizing it was now in the middle of an icy forest.
Gramps floated ahead, with Jinghe carrying it and running behind.
At the same time, Gramps provided a brief explanation, and Jinghe understood why the little chubby Pokemon had woken him up in the middle of the night.
As usual, Gramps had taken the young Pokemon to ask for a "greeting gift."
At first, everything went smoothly.
But as they passed through a dense forest, they heard unusual sounds.
It turned out to be a group of poachers taking advantage of the cover of night and the recent influx of people in Snow Mapping City to hunt a group of wild Abomasnow.
When Jinghe arrived at the scene, Gigaton Smith, Hachubo, and the sleeping Bear Apprentice were hiding in a bush.
From a nearby valley, faint sounds could be heard.
"Hya!"
Upon seeing Jinghe, Gigaton Smith pursed his lips and picked up his hammer, ready to take action.
However, Jinghe stopped him.
Abomasnow, also known as "Snow Monsters," were the subjects of ancient rumors about "Snowmen."
They preferred to stay away from outsiders, living quietly in the perpetually snow-covered mountains, only interacting with the snow.
They would only appear when the snowflakes bloomed.
The reason they became targets for poachers was likely due to the recent snowfall caused by the appearance of Frostbird during the day, which made them mistakenly believe that winter had arrived.
In theory, Abomasnow was not weak.
Especially not an entire group of them.
For poachers to dare to target them, they must either be numerous or exceptionally powerful.
Although Snow Mapping City was currently crowded and chaotic, with people like Tami, one of the Four Heavenly Kings, present, it was unlikely that poachers would appear in large groups.
Therefore, it was more probable that they were confident in their abilities.
It was best not to act rashly.
Jinghe closed his eyes.
Wave Guidance, from the heart!
A wave of power emanated from him, spreading out in all directions. Soon, he sensed the activities of the wild Pokemon nearby and the events taking place in the valley.
Approximately four or five Abomasnow were facing off against two poachers.
Contrary to Jinghe's initial guess, the poachers were not causing the Abomasnow to hesitate because of their strength. Instead...
They had a young Snow Hat Pokemon under their control, using it as leverage.
Upon learning this, Jinghe felt slightly relieved.
This situation was easier to handle.
At least it wasn't too dangerous.
The main concern was the poachers' Pokemon, a Melt Ant and a Chop Commander.
So, Jinghe made arrangements while sneaking past with the young Pokemon.
"Be careful not to hurt the Snow Hat Pokemon. If it gets injured, not only will it be hard to sell at a good price, but the Abomasnow will also go into a frenzy."
"Don't worry, I'll be careful. You go and catch them all."
As they approached, they could hear the conversation between the two poachers, one tall and the other short.
Both wore leather vests and safety goggles.
The outfit seemed vaguely familiar to Jinghe, but now wasn't the time to dwell on it. When they got close enough, Jinghe narrowed his eyes and commanded, "Move!"
The young Pokemon sprang into action.
"Koo!"
The Bear Apprentice, with snot running from its nose, suddenly punched a distant tree, causing it to crack and the snow on it to slide off with a "crack" and a "whoosh."
"Who's there?!"
The vigilant poachers were immediately drawn to the noise.
The next second, a sinisterly smiling figure appeared behind the poacher controlling the Snow Hat Pokemon, his chilling aura causing the poacher's body to stiffen.
Bang!!
A rock shot out of the bush like a cannonball, precisely hitting the Chop Commander.
At the same time, a column of water gushed from the tree, like a surging wave, and swept up the Melt Ant.
"Ooh!"
A deep blue freezing beam froze the poacher who had been scared by Gramps, along with the Snow Hat Pokemon he was holding.
When the other poacher finally reacted, a fist slammed into his face.
Bang!!
In the hazy night, Jinghe blew on his fist.
"The martial arts training I've been doing recently hasn't been in vain."
The poacher that Jinghe had punched was just struggling to reach for his Poke Ball when a ghostly face appeared before him.
In a moment of sheer terror, his pupils contracted as the hypnotic spell seared into his mind, causing his hair to stand on end.
The poacher's eyes rolled back, and he foamed at the mouth, convulsing on the ground.
Done!
In the wild, it's always right to target Trainers.
The situation ended more smoothly than Jinghe had imagined, and it was all thanks to an unexpected turn of events.
This was his first true wild battle with a Trainer, he thought.
As he gestured for Six-Tailed Pokemon to release the Snow Hat Pokemon, he took out his phone and called Miss Junsha.
Nearby, several bulky-looking Abomasnow, already under control, stared blankly at the scene.
"Ooh-woo~"
Six-Tailed Pokemon gently called out, and the Snow Hat Pokemon was freed.
Though the poacher was also freed from the ice, he clearly didn't have the same resistance to cold as the Snow Hat Pokemon and wouldn't recover anytime soon.
To be safe, Gramps sent him a "Nightmare Combo."
"Go on," Jinghe said, patting the dazed Snow Hat Pokemon's head and giving it an Energy Cube.
Hachubo had also released the Abomasnow from their specialized bindings.
The teary-eyed Snow Hat Pokemon finally reacted and ran into its mother's embrace.
The Abomasnow mother and her child hugged and cried together.
Witnessing this, Jinghe and the little Pokemon's eyes softened.
It was hard to imagine what would have happened to these Abomasnow and Snow Hat Pokemon if they hadn't shown up today.
Only a tiny fraction of Pokemon like Six-Tailed Pokemon would ever encounter someone like Jinghe.
Becoming a pet for exhibition is already a fortunate outcome; most would likely be treated as mere tools.
So, poachers truly deserve to die.
The Abomasnow didn't leave immediately but instead called out, expressing their gratitude to Jinghe and his Pokemon.
Furthermore, they presented him with tree fruits, tiny ice crystals, and special snow chunks as tokens of their appreciation.
Jinghe didn't refuse but said, "From now on, find a new place to live, and remember to hide well."
The Abomasnow leader-like figure nodded in agreement.
After expressing their gratitude once more, they slowly disappeared into the snowy night.
Looking at the gifts the Abomasnow had left behind, especially the tiny ice crystals, Jinghe realized these weren't ordinary crystals but the embryonic form of an Ice Stone, similar to the small Ice Stone Six-Tailed Pokemon had eaten earlier.
The scattered ice crystals didn't seem like much, but together, they were almost equivalent to a small Ice Stone.
"Most Pokemon are pure and simple creatures," Jinghe muttered in awe.
Hunter J, please come out and die.
Soon after, Miss Junsha arrived with her squad, riding on snowmobiles.
But she wasn't alone; she was accompanied by someone Jinghe didn't expect.
"Hello, I'm Handsome," the man said with a smile.
During their journey, Miss Junsha had shared some information about Jinghe with him.
"Hello, I am too," Jinghe replied, shaking the man's hand.
"Oh, I mean, that's my code name," Handsome said, his expression turning awkward.
This man, known as "Handsome," was an International Police officer, but he didn't look the part; his face was weathered and rugged. Jinghe was familiar with him, as he had been active in many generations, playing a role in events like the future eradication of Team Galactic remnants and the arrest of the Seven Sages of Team Plasma.
Despite his lack of interest in promotions or his relatively low emotional intelligence, which made him less adept at office politics and preferred working alone, Handsome had never received a promotion.
However, he didn't mind; his primary concern was always fighting crime.
He was a man with an overflowing sense of justice.
"Sorry, I was just joking. I know you, Mr. Handsome, as the owner of the 'Handsome Detective Agency' in Mira City," Jinghe said.
"Mr. Handsome is actually an International Police officer, Jinghe," Miss Junsha clarified.
Jinghe feigned realization, "Regardless, thank you, Mr. Handsome, for helping me capture these poachers. I've been tracking them for some time."
"Tracking?" Jinghe glanced at the two foaming poachers on the ground. "Do you know their background, Mr. Handsome?"
Handsome nodded, "They're spaceship thieves, under the command of Algus Steel."
Algus Steel, the spaceship thief? The name sounded vaguely familiar.
After a while, Jinghe finally recalled where he had heard it.
Weren't they the father-daughter thief duo with the Shieldon in the movie 'Destruction Cocoon and Tianshi'? They had targeted the mythical Pokemon Tianshi but accidentally ended up at the 'Destruction Cocoon's' resting place and had their lives taken away.
"We'll leave this to you, Mr. Handsome and Miss Junsha. We're heading back to catch some sleep," Jinghe said.
Time to make a quick exit.
He didn't want to get entangled in the 'Destruction Cocoon' incident.
Although he now had the urge to actively combat poachers, it was best to stay out of such matters if possible.
After the 'Destruction Cocoon' hatches, it becomes the mythical Pokemon Ipetalar, a merciless entity that turns everything to stone and takes lives without discrimination, unlike the more reasonable Giratina.
"Let's go, Gramps. What are you staring at?"
Jinghe called out to Gramps, who was gazing intently in one direction.
"Hng gah~!"
Here it comes!
Gramps scratched his head in confusion, glanced in that direction again, and hurriedly followed.
"He's truly a responsible Trainer," Handsome remarked, watching them leave.
Miss Junsha smiled slightly, "Yes, Jinghe is a good person."
Handsome nodded, his eyes glinting with admiration.
However, neither Jinghe nor Handsome was aware that after Jinghe left, in the direction Gramps had been staring, there was a green, palm-sized entity, resembling a silent, plant-like cell.
It looked at them with a mix of curiosity and approval.
