Chapter 248: Thanos's Test (Third Update)
Chapter 248: Thanos's Test (Third Update)
"Oh, I forgot to buy the ice cream Aisha wanted!"
As Jerry approached the front door, he remembered that Aisha had asked for ice cream when he left the house.
"Have a banana instead. Eating too much ice cream can harm your stomach and make you gain weight. Bananas are rich in nutrients, good for the stomach, promote blood flow, and can even help with constipation, which Aisha has been experiencing lately!"
Jerry took a banana from the bag and used the Transformation Spell to turn it into ice cream.
"Ding Dong!"
He rang the doorbell, and the door instantly opened.
Teacher Berry, seeing Jerry standing at the door, immediately hugged him with excitement.
"Oh, Jerry, dear, you scared me to death! Has said it's very chaotic outside, with Aliens everywhere. He's been calling to check if you've returned!"
"Um, Teacher Berry, I'm fine. I just spent a bit more time haggling with the vendor at the market. What Aliens? Are you talking about that big hole in the sky?"
Jerry gently pushed Teacher Berry away, feeling a bit awkward. His body was in the midst of puberty, and her tight embrace made him uncomfortable.
"Yes, not long after you went out to buy groceries, Has was called back to the police station. He's been calling to check if you've returned, and he's very worried about you!"
Teacher Berry let go of Jerry and took the groceries from his hands, explaining.
"Quick, the TV is reporting about the Aliens!"
Aisha ran over and pointed excitedly at the television in the living room.
Sure enough, the channel that had been showing "The Big Bang Theory" instantly switched to a live news report. The screen displayed footage of battles captured by daring journalists.
There were Chitauri riding flying machines wreaking havoc in the city, massive sky beasts, Asgardian soldiers in golden armor, and Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Iron Man.
Of course, the most striking image was of Witch Jerry riding a huge Fire Dragon, accompanied by wing-flapping Robot Soldiers and a giant Light Giant.
Finally, there was a scene of eight Robot Soldiers landing in front of the police, opening their chests to release the rescued civilians.
"Oh, God, they are angels, they are angels with wings descending from the sky, saving my family and me from the collapsed building. They said Witch created them. All I can say is thank you."
The rescued civilians, interviewed by journalists, replied with tears of gratitude.
"That was really scary. I need to call Has and tell him you're back safely!"
Teacher Berry, watching the news, quickly turned to make a call to Has.
"Aisha, here's your ice cream!"
Jerry handed the ice cream to Aisha, who had been eagerly waiting.
"Big brother, you're the best!"
At the same time, on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.
"According to protocol, the Mind Staff is temporarily under our control. Agent Natasha, Agent Barton, Dr. Banner, and Captain, please head to the briefing room and wait. Director Fury will be there shortly!"
As Captain America and the others landed on the Helicarrier's deck with the Mind Staff, a bald agent and a group of armed S.H.I.E.L.D. agents immediately approached them.
"Thank you, Agent Sitwell!"
Black Widow didn't hesitate when she saw the approaching agent. She immediately handed the box containing the Mind Staff to the bald agent.
Once Black Widow and the others had completely disappeared, the bald agent passed the box to another agent with an exceptionally muscular build and then made a phone call:
"We have the evidence. We will meet with Dr. List next. Don't worry, everything went smoothly, and there were no obstacles. Mr. Secretary General..."
In the office of the air carrier's captain.
On a large screen, several members of the World Security Council, visibly angry, questioned Nick Fury, who was standing below them:
"How could you decide on your own to hand over the Cosmic Cube to the Asgardians?"
"You think I had room for negotiation? We are facing an unknown alien threat, and the powerful Asgardians are our only allies. If we push them away, do you think Earth can fight a war with two alien forces at the same time?"
Nick Fury retorted angrily.
"Just let him take it away?"
The council members clearly weren't satisfied with Nick Fury's response.
Nick Fury sighed, silently cursing them for being a bunch of useless, unrealistic bureaucrats who served no purpose other than to balance his power.
"I forgot to tell you, Witch once told me that Asgard's Odin is incredibly powerful, powerful enough to destroy Earth on his own!"
The council members still didn't seem to believe it and continued to question him:
"And what about Witch? He took those two aliens, Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf, who are war criminals and should be tried by us..."
"First, you'd have to find him..."
Witch's current power and reputation were far beyond what S.H.I.E.L.D. could control.
In the depths of space, on a planet that had been nearly shattered.
A five-meter-tall, purple-skinned alien clad in golden armor sat on a massive throne, gazing at the moon that now hung in the sky as a mere half. A slight smile played on his lips as he said:
"So, neither Odin nor the Ancient One personally intervened?"
"No, Lord Thanos, but apart from Odin and the Ancient One, the Earthlings showed more strength than we imagined. Especially one who is highly skilled in magic, who defeated Lord Ebony Maw. We suspect that although the Ancient One did not act directly, she sent one of her disciples."
The Chitauri Elder reported, bowing respectfully.
"Lord Ebony Maw? What a pity. It seems the Ancient One doesn't follow the rules as strictly as the rumors suggest!"
The one sitting on the throne was none other than Thanos, the true mastermind behind the attack on Earth.
He had sent Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf to Earth primarily to gauge the attitudes of Odin and the Ancient One.
This test was clearly successful, but what he hadn't anticipated was that Ebony Maw, one of his best generals, would be defeated on Earth.
Although he had prepared for the worst when sending Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf to Earth, he had assumed that the worst would involve Odin and the Ancient One intervening personally. In his view, with Ebony Maw's capabilities, accompanied by Black Dwarf, they should have been able to leave Earth with the Mind Staff and the Cosmic Cube without much trouble.
In his mind, Earthlings were nothing more than a bunch of lowly monkeys, except for Odin and the Ancient One.
If Odin and the Ancient One had intervened, it would at least have shown that Odin was not as weak as he had estimated and that the Ancient One did not follow the rules as everyone believed.
If that were the case, he would need to make significant adjustments to his plan to collect the six Infinity Stones.
