Chapter 247: Victory (Second Update)
Chapter 247: Victory (Second Update)
In the depths of space, inside the Chitauri mothership.
"Sir, what should we do now? The number of warriors in our warship is down to less than one-tenth. Should we continue to send more down?"
A Chitauri officer, trembling with fear, asked the Chitauri Elder, who was draped in a black cloak.
The elderly Chitauri Elder clenched his teeth and sighed:
"Lords Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf have been defeated. Our warriors are down to just one-tenth, but the Asgardians and those Earthlings have suffered minimal losses. We must retreat!"
"But won't Lord Thanos blame us? What if we use the mothership's main weapon to bombard Planet C-53?"
The Chitauri officer suggested.
The Chitauri Elder's face immediately darkened:
"No, I will explain to Lord Thanos. Retreat!"
As an Elder of the Chitauri Army, he was well aware of Thanos's fear of Planet C-53 and the renowned Ancient One. If he dared to order the use of the mothership's main weapon to bombard the planet, the Ancient One, the guardian of the Time Stone, would likely kill everyone on board before the attack even began.
Moreover, the primary goal of this mission was to probe, not to launch a full-scale assault. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been just their legion involved.
"Unfortunately, Lords Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf, and our Chitauri treasure, the Mind Staff!"
He sighed again, waved his hand, and the entire mothership began to turn and leave, heading toward a planet where Thanos was currently waging war.
"By the way, shut down all the weapon systems left on Planet C-53. We don't want them to use our weapons!"
"Yes, Sir!"
"Tony, shut down the Cosmic Cube!"
Seeing the Chitauri mothership retreat, everyone let out a slight sigh of relief. After all, the massive ship had been quite intimidating, and many Asgardians, despite being healed by Jerry, were still severely injured and needed time to recover.
"Boom!"
A loud explosion, and the alien machine burst into flames, with the Cosmic Cube returning to its normal form.
"Respected Witch, now that the enemy has been repelled, we must return. However, by the decree of the All-Father Odin, we must take the Cosmic Cube back to Asgard for safekeeping!"
With the Cosmic Cube's portal closed, Lady Sif, accompanied by the Warriors Three, approached Witch, bowed, and spoke politely.
Jerry's strength, and his recent healing of the Asgardians, had earned him great respect from Sif and the other Asgardians. In their eyes, Jerry was the true representative of Earth, not Captain America, Tony, or S.H.I.E.L.D.
"The Cosmic Cube contains immense power. If it falls into the wrong hands, it could cause great harm. Years ago, my father believed that mortals were not capable of using it, so he placed it on Midgard. Now, it seems that leaving it on Midgard is no longer safe, and it could bring disaster, as it did today!"
Thor, who had already communicated with Sif, stepped forward to explain, fearing that Jerry might not understand.
Jerry turned to Tony:
"Can you contact Director Fury? Let him know what's happening here and see what he says!"
Jerry, of course, had no objection to Odin reclaiming the Cosmic Cube, but he wanted to consider Fury's feelings.
"Sure, just a moment!"
Tony replied and used the communication device on his Iron Man suit to contact Nick Fury on the Helicarrier.
About five minutes later, Tony, holding the Cosmic Cube, walked over:
"Fury thanks you for your assistance to Earth this time. Since Asgard is reclaiming the Cosmic Cube, we have no objections!"
Sif looked at Jerry and Thor, and when both of them nodded, she used a special device to secure the Cosmic Cube.
"Goodbye then!"
Sif gave a final bow to everyone and called out to the sky:
"Heimdall!"
A thick, rainbow-colored beam of light descended from the heavens, and all the Asgardians vanished instantly.
Once all the Asgardians had disappeared, Jerry and the others landed back on the ground. Tony then said:
"Fury wants us to take the Mind Staff to his carrier, but right now, I just want to grab some shawarma a couple of blocks away. Anyone want to join me?"
"You go ahead. I'm afraid I don't have the time. Let's catch up next time!"
Jerry suddenly remembered that he had rushed out to buy groceries and hadn't returned home yet. Teacher Berry must be worried sick.
So, after putting Norbert and the twelve robot soldiers, who had all returned to his side, back into the box space, he used a Phantom Shift to vanish from the spot.
"Instant travel, such a convenient Magic. Sorry, I promised Jane I'd have dinner with her tonight!"
Thor swung his hammer and flew away.
"We need to report to Director Fury!"
Black Widow took the Mind Staff from Tony and stood next to Hawkeye Barton.
Both were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and naturally followed Fury's orders.
Tony glanced at the old-fashioned Captain America, who always reminded him of his irresponsible father, and then at the hulk, who looked like he could tear him in half at any moment. He shrugged helplessly:
"Alright, I think having dinner with Pepper sounds nice too. Let's catch up when everyone's free tomorrow!"
With that, he activated his Iron Man suit and flew away.
In a stairwell of a building in Queens.
A series of crackling sounds filled the air, and Jerry, now in his normal attire, appeared out of nowhere.
"Oh, God, Jerry?"
As soon as he appeared, Jerry heard a gasp. He turned to see an elderly man carrying a garbage bag, about to throw it into the large trash bin in the hallway.
"Grandpa George?"
The man was Jerry's neighbor, Grandpa George.
"Jerry, how did you—"
"Sorry, Grandpa George, Obliviate!"
Jerry gave a wry smile, raised his hand, and cast an Obliviate spell on the old man, followed by a False Memory Charm.
Then he immediately took out the beef and some vegetables he had prepared in advance from the box space.
Jerry's box space was home to a large number of cattle and sheep, and there were plenty of fish and shrimp in the artificial river. He had also set aside several acres of land for house-elves to grow various vegetables and fruit trees.
So, the vegetables, fruits, and meats they ate at home these days all came directly from the box space.
"Oh, Jerry, you went grocery shopping again? Why didn't you take the elevator?"
Grandpa George's expression changed for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure and looked at Jerry with a kind smile.
Jerry pulled two oranges out of the bag and handed them to Grandpa George:
"I like taking the stairs; it's good exercise!"
"Thank you, you're such a good boy. My grandson, who spends all day playing games at home, could learn a thing or two from you!"
Grandpa George took the oranges from Jerry, thinking about his grandson who was still at home playing games, and felt a surge of frustration.
