Chapter 246: Fragments of Blue Crystal
Chapter 246: Fragments of Blue Crystal
In Nicolas Flamel's private library, Kyle sat at a table as usual, quietly perusing a book on alchemy.
House-elf Dobby stood quietly beside him, and as Kyle finished the last page, Dobby promptly served him a freshly-made glass of lemonade.
"Thank you."
Kyle drank the lemonade and only then did he breathe a satisfied sigh.
It had been a month since he arrived, and during this time, he had practically lived in this library, sometimes even having his meals brought to him by Dobby.
Although Flamel hadn't taught him any alchemy directly, he had recommended numerous beginner-friendly books, which had greatly benefited Kyle, leading to a qualitative leap in his alchemy skills.
This visible progress brought Kyle immense satisfaction.
Unfortunately, today was the day he had to leave.
Reluctantly, Kyle handed the book back to Dobby and walked out of the library alone.
In the grand hall, Flamel was still immersed in reliving a memorable opera performance from his memories.
As Kyle approached, the band finished playing their final note.
"I was just wondering when you'd come out."
Flamel retracted his memory, slowly rising from his lounge chair. "Perenelle has been urging us to leave, and we must return."
Perenelle was Flamel's wife; she simply preferred staying in Devon to tend to the plants in her garden and thus hadn't accompanied them on this trip to Paris.
"Are we leaving now?" Kyle asked.
"No rush," Flamel said with a chuckle. "Before we go, I need to check if you've been slacking off."
"Alright then... Professor Flamel."
Kyle pulled out a folded piece of parchment from his pocket and unfolded it in front of Flamel.
The parchment had a detailed map of the entire place, with each room carefully labeled, and Kyle's name was marked in the grand hall.
"Is this a map?" Flamel asked, intrigued.
"Yes," Kyle replied. "The initial version was drawn by Dobby, but I studied the trajectory magic of the Flying Charm and some other interesting things, and eventually, I was able to create this."
Kyle took out his wand and tapped it on the map, murmuring,
"Library!"
On the parchment, a clear, thin line appeared between Kyle's name and the library.
Flamel's eyes flickered, but he remained silent, merely twitching his fingers slightly.
In an instant, the grand hall seemed to come alive. The corridor behind Kyle began to slowly close, soon merging together into a solid wall.
Not only that, but doors, windows, and other similar features also disappeared, turning the grand hall into an enclosed space with no apparent exit.
Flamel looked at the parchment again.
The positions of the rooms on the map had also changed, but strangely, the line connecting Kyle to the library remained, although it had simply changed direction.
The line turned at the original location of the corridor and disappeared into the left wall.
"It seems your creation has failed," Flamel said, looking up at Kyle. He pointed to where the line extended and smiled. "There's no exit there."
"Not necessarily, Flamel," Kyle smiled back.
He followed the map to the wall, took a deep breath, and walked straight through it.
Just like with the 9¾ platform, Kyle passed through the wall and found himself in the familiar corridor.
"So, can we leave now?" asked Kyle.
"Of course," Nicholas replied, taking out two crystal fragments, one blue and one red. "These are the keys. Just infuse them with magical power in an alchemical way, and you can use them."
Kyle stared intently at the blue crystal fragment, identical to the Philosopher's Stone fragment. He opened his mouth as if to ask something, but ultimately said nothing.
Nicholas continued, "The red one will take you home, and the blue one will bring you back to this study whenever you need it in the future."
"Return here?" Kyle asked, looking up involuntarily.
"Yes," Nicholas said. "I imagine you've been curious as to why I invited you here."
Kyle nodded slightly after a moment of silence.
Initially, he thought it was because of the Merlin Society medal, but if that were the only reason, he wouldn't have been kept here for so long.
Especially since ten days ago, during a meal, Nicholas's wife, Perenelle, had already started urging them to leave.
Kyle had been ready to go home then, but surprisingly, Nicholas had refused, using the excuse of wanting to watch an opera.
However, he hadn't stepped out of the house since.
"Because I saw that you would come here, and I saw it two months ago," Nicholas said.
Two months ago... Wasn't that before the summer break at Hogwarts?
Kyle thought for a moment. "Is it a prophecy?"
"Not exactly, but you can interpret it that way if you like," Nicholas said with a wink. "Do you want to know what I saw?"
"No!" Kyle shook his head immediately.
Prophecies in the magical world were peculiar. If one remained unaware, there might be a chance to alter the outcome, but once known, it would undoubtedly come to pass someday.
"Don't be so tense," Nicholas said, waving his finger. With that, the room returned to its original state.
"In fact, I only saw you come here twice, and nothing else.
But a voice in my head told me that you needed that knowledge, and I should help you."
Hearing Nicholas Flamel's words, Kyle's expression softened considerably.
As long as it wasn't about finding Nicholas Flamel, it probably wasn't a big deal.
The last time he had intervened, it was to... Oh yes, save Paris.
The two returned to the grand hall.
"Now, there's just one last thing..."
Nicholas pointed to a box on the table next to them.
"It's a bit late, but happy birthday, kid."
Kyle suddenly remembered that it was August 5th, five days after his birthday.
"Thanks, Nicholas. What is it?"
"You mentioned wanting a box to store magical items, didn't you?" Nicholas said. "I made this for you while I was watching the opera."
Kyle picked up the box and examined it carefully.
It was heavy, with a dark golden surface and several golden symbols at the opening—symbols he recognized as being used to preserve magic.
"This is fantastic; it's just what I need," Kyle said happily.
"I'm glad you like it."
