Chapter 246: Contradictions in the Shadows
Chapter 246: Contradictions in the Shadows
Amidst the Thousand Mountain Stone Forest, the heavy snowfall continued.
Li Sai and Hong journeyed through the blizzard, their minds now vastly different from before.
They had come to understand the true situation in Black Mountain.
They had even obtained crucial information!
That Chaos Dominator named Dark Abyss was plotting against the Dragon Beast, and the two were at odds with each other.
Taking advantage of their strained relationship...
There were now many different ways to reach their destination.
But in the midst of the storm, treading upon the snow-covered ground, Li Sai couldn't help but ask Hong:
"Hong, are you sure you want to go to Black Mountain?"
"The power within that Dragon Beast could very well cause the soul within you to awaken once more. If she returns to her full glory, it won't be something you and a single Wild Wisdom Wood Kernel can suppress."
Hong's voice, resolute amidst the snow, replied:
"Li Sai, I now understand my origins."
"But that doesn't mean the Dragon Beast's ill intentions towards me have vanished."
"That creature's power comes from this body. In the past, due to various concerns, it was both greedy and cowardly, hiding me away in a distant world; but once it ensures its safety, how could it possibly let me go?"
Li Sai smiled and said:
"It seems we're back on the same page."
Hong's expression turned solemn, and she spoke with utmost seriousness:
"Li Sai, ever since I woke up, or rather, since the day I was born..."
"The scene from that time is still vivid in my memory."
"You said that the journey ahead would be an exciting adventure!"
"I still firmly believe in those words, and I will never back down halfway!"
Her words reminded Li Sai of something.
He recalled the Reviver corpses in the cave.
Aside from the one that self-destructed, leaving no bones behind, Li Sai had promptly burned the other two Reviver corpses.
After all, these creatures were the living dead, returning to life after death.
They were undoubtedly unstable factors.
Especially after killing them, the materials they provided were only the simplest bone dust, making them Li Sai's least favorite prey!
He pondered the conversations he had with those Revivers.
A highly probable assumption immediately came to mind:
"Hong, our situation might not be ideal."
Hong slightly averted her gaze:
"What have you discovered?"
Li Sai explained:
"Do you remember why those Revivers came here?"
Hong certainly hadn't forgotten:
"Because Dark Abyss sensed the disturbances in Crystal Valley and sent them to investigate."
Li Sai continued:
"So, where is Dark Abyss now?"
Hong replied without hesitation:
"Black Mountain."
Li Sai then voiced his true concern:
"That's right, Black Mountain. But from Black Mountain to the Thousand Mountain Stone Forest is nearly half the world's distance. Given such a vast separation, not only did Dark Abyss notice the changes promptly, but he also managed to convey his orders to the Revivers in the Thousand Mountain Stone Forest!"
Hong immediately understood:
"This means they have a long-distance communication method!"
"Exactly," Li Sai nodded in agreement, "If we assume the worst, they might already know about our actions against these Revivers through this means of communication!"
Li Sai then presented two opposing facts:
"Dark Abyss wants you to devour the Dragon Beast and restore the Crown of Annihilation to its original state, so he would want you to reach Black Mountain safely."
"However, the Dragon Beast would never want that to happen."
"It must be planning to fully consume this body. But it will only do so after ensuring its own safety."
Hong nodded in agreement:
"So, we should find a way to turn this dire situation to our advantage.
The conflict between the Dragon Beast and the Dark Abyss is the best condition we can take advantage of right now!"
"..."
Lindsey was about to voice his thoughts when he suddenly stopped in his tracks. On his map ability, he noticed five red dots approaching, a significant number in the midst of this grand blizzard.
What were the odds of encountering roaming beasts in such a storm?
"Speak of the devil, and he appears," Lindsey mused. He immediately shared this news with the girl beside him, "Hong, there are more Revivers approaching ahead."
Hong responded with a confident smile, "I understand, this is our opportunity!"
As Lindsey and Hong hurried through the snow, discussing how to utilize these environmental factors, a thin figure once again climbed to the peak of the mountain, standing at the entrance of the Dragon Beast's lair.
He bowed deeply, keeping his face hidden in the shadows, and spoke with utmost respect, "Master, I have sent people to investigate the situation in the Thousand Mountain Stone Forest."
"But according to their reports, you have unleashed a terrifying blizzard in that land, which will likely hinder the actions of your loyal followers."
The Dragon Beast didn't even leave its lair. Its voice echoed from the pitch-black cave, and a chilling aura enveloped the mountaintop, "My ancestors chose betrayal."
"I granted them the only freedom in this world, freeing them from the need to contribute Essence. Yet they defied my orders and ventured into the forbidden land."
"I offered them tolerance, but I can also bring them destruction!"
The thin figure quickly presented the excuse he had prepared, "But Master, your advancement relies on plundering the world's Essence, which is closely tied to the state of the entire world!"
"A minor weather change shouldn't cause any trouble."
"But this extensive and long-lasting blizzard will undoubtedly affect the state of the land, which will significantly impact your advancement!"
The thin figure thought the Dragon Beast would accept his advice. But the next moment, the voice from the lair firmly rejected, "Their challenge to my dignity is an absolute act of rebellion that cannot be tolerated!"
The thin figure hurriedly spoke, "Master, we should prioritize the bigger picture!"
"As long as you successfully advance, whether it's your race or..."
"Enough!" The Dragon Beast abruptly cut off the figure's advice. The next second, a deafening roar shook the heavens and the earth, "I will definitely advance, and this will not fail!"
A thunderous rumble echoed through the air.
The massive mountain began to tremble as the Dragon Beast's voice, filled with authority and oppression, reverberated between the glacier and the solitary Black Mountain, "I am the ruler of Black Mountain, the sovereign of the world."
"This power is destined to be mine, and no one can take it away!"
"Dark Abyss, I appreciate your guidance over the centuries, but in this world, I am the Mandate of Heaven!"
"..."
"My loyalty to you is as clear as day and night!"
The figure fell silent for a moment.
He almost immediately abandoned his advice, and in an instant, his tone became resolute, "Master, everything will be as you wish!"
"I also believe, deep in my heart, that everything in Black Mountain will submit to your will!"
"..."
The Dragon Beast's lair fell silent for a moment, and then the cold voice echoed, "Since you understand, go and do what you must."
"..."
"Your will, my respected Master."
The thin figure bowed.
A fleeting shadow crossed his hidden face, and he hurriedly descended the mountain.
