Chapter 244: The CEO's Ambition
Chapter 244: The CEO's Ambition
In the vast blue sky, a white dragon reflected the sunlight, its body shimmering like a silver sword slicing through the tranquil clouds, leaving a long, white trail in its wake.
From a distance, it appeared to be a dragon soaring with its majestic wings. Those unaware might truly believe it to be a materialized spirit. However, this was none other than a jet designed by Kaiba Seto, the CEO of the Kaiba Corporation, modeled after the Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
Over the years, CEO Kaiba has been dedicated to making the White Dragon the symbol of his corporation and himself, and this vision is reflected in every aspect of his life, including his choice of personal transport.
The Blue-Eyes Jet is an advanced aircraft, a pinnacle of modern technology, crafted with Kaiba Seto's immense resources. Its engines are remarkably silent, providing a peaceful environment for its passengers, who might even forget they are aboard a machine, mistaking it for a real dragon in flight.
However, its performance surpasses that of modern fighter jets, executing maneuvers that conventional aircraft could only dream of. As it tears through the sky, it resembles a drawn sword, each takeoff carrying the aura of a warrior about to claim an enemy's head.
This powerful aircraft demands an equally skilled pilot, and it is said that mastering its controls is no easy feat. Nonetheless, Kaiba Seto rarely allows anyone else to touch his prized possession. Whenever the Blue-Eyes White Dragon jet takes to the skies, everyone knows that Kaiba Seto himself is at the controls.
While it may seem unusual for a company CEO to possess flight skills surpassing those of ace pilots, considering it's Kaiba Seto, it doesn't seem so strange after all.
After all, it is common knowledge that Kaiba Seto possesses superhuman physical abilities.
Yu Xuan couldn't help but admire the sleek design of the White Dragon jet before boarding. He had only seen it on television before, and now, observing it up close, it truly resembled a sleeping dragon.
As he boarded, he joked with Kaiba, "Why don't we turn this jet into a card as well? I think it has potential; it might even be a hidden gem."
Kaiba raised an eyebrow at his suggestion but didn't say anything. However, it was clear that the idea had piqued his interest.
Perhaps not long after their return, the world would witness the birth of the "Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon."
Yu Xuan's laboratory was now running smoothly, producing significant outputs, and his team members frequently attended top academic conferences. Additionally, Yu Xuan had established collaborations with several of Kaiba's experimental teams, so Kaiba had also heard about Yu Xuan's extraordinary academic abilities.
According to the team leaders, Yu Xuan was suspected to be a natural-born prodigy, possessing incredibly strong spirit vision and an unprecedented affinity for spirits. Often, his offhand comments would provide much-needed insights to the teams, helping them overcome long-standing obstacles and achieve significant breakthroughs.
With the experts' endorsements and Kaiba's own contemplation, he found Yu Xuan's casual suggestion intriguing, and he made a mental note to develop this idea upon their return.
Kaiba's Blue-Eyes cards have always blended technology and mysticism. Thus, while the Blue-Eyes White Dragon is undeniably a dragon spirit from three thousand years ago, many of its incarnations bear traces of modern technological influences.
As the jet ascended, the clouds gently parted, forming elegant ripples that soon closed, resembling natural skin quivering under the dragon's light touch.
CEO Kaiba himself piloted the jet, while Kei Hiruta attended to Yu Xuan and invited him to the onboard restaurant. The aircraft boasted a team of top-tier chefs who provided customized culinary delights and beverages.
"Fumonori City?" Yu Xuan inquired. "Are you certain that's where the enemy's lair is located?"
With the inter-school tournament fast approaching the following week, Kei Hiruta assured him that this trip would take no more than two days. Thus, Yu Xuan decided to accompany Kei Hiruta on this short detour to the neighboring city.
He wanted to ensure that the threat to his safety was eliminated while also keeping an eye out for any new card decks he could acquire.
"That's highly likely," Kei Hiruta replied, savoring an oversized chocolate sundae.
"We've engaged the help of local friends to investigate, and they seem to have dug up something interesting. But online communication isn't secure, so we'll fill you in on the details once we meet in person after landing."
"You seem to have an idea about the identity of our enemy," You Xuan remarked.
"We can't be sure yet," Kei Hiruta shrugged, "but we will know soon enough. Don't worry, we have nothing to fear now. No matter who our opponent is, big brother will take care of them."
He seemed reluctant to dwell on the topic any longer, so You Xuan steered the conversation in a different direction. "So, these local friends you mentioned, are they from a branch of the Kaiba Corporation?"
"No," Kei Hiruta smiled, "for certain reasons, we can't fully trust anyone within the corporation at the moment. You probably don't know him, but he's a reliable guy."
"I thought Kaiba Seto didn't have any friends," You Xuan commented.
"Well, generally speaking, that's true. But there are always exceptions, I suppose," Kei Hiruta replied as he set down his sundae and leaned back in his chair, gazing thoughtfully at the clouds drifting past the plane's window.
"If I had to say who is closest to being a friend to big brother, it would be that guy."
Without needing further explanation, You Xuan knew that Kei Hiruta was referring to Yami Yugi.
In fact, there were quite a few rumors circulating even now. After all, Kaiba Seto had taken over the Kaiba Corporation at the young age of sixteen, and in the past few years, he had risen to the very top of the world.
But it was also common knowledge that he had neither companions nor friends. No, scratch that—he didn't even have the typical gossip and rumors that public figures usually attracted. This was because the impression he gave was that of a lone wolf through and through.
If one had to describe him, the phrase "I am a man who will become the Duel King; women are just a nuisance" would probably be the most fitting.
But even someone like him had an emptiness that could never be filled.
That emptiness was left by Atem's departure.
It was said that Takahashi-sensei had once joked in an interview, "Atem is everything to Kaiba Seto." Perhaps it was true; while Kaiba didn't consider Atem a companion, he was indeed the person closest to fitting that description.
Losing this eternal rival was like losing his life's purpose. Even reaching the pinnacle of the world and claiming the Duel King title, which he had once coveted, now felt hollow and meaningless.
In the movie "Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions," when the Pharaoh truly returned, even Yugi Muto expressed admiration for Kaiba. Yugi had given up, but Kaiba alone stubbornly believed that he could bring Atem back, and his obsession had already surpassed that of a normal person.
At the end of the movie, Kaiba even rushed into the underworld and reached Atem's palace.
However, to the minions in the palace, one thing must have seemed strange—why was Lord Seto dressed so flamboyantly today?
The movie ended without revealing the outcome of that duel. Neither the audience nor the Duelists in this world ever learned who emerged victorious. But considering Kaiba's millennia-old grudge against Atem and the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, he most likely lost yet again.
That was why, even to this day, he hadn't given up on the idea of going back for another round.
You Xuan immediately thought of the Link System.
Wait a minute...
He had already discovered that the essence of the Link System was consciousness projection, and it could even project to other dimensions. This was somewhat similar to the technology Kaiba had used to travel to the underworld.
Perhaps the development of this system had been partially influenced by that experience.
Taking a bolder leap of imagination, You Xuan wondered if one day, as the Link System continuously updated and expanded its maps, a future version might include a "Underworld" DLC, allowing Kaiba to visit the underworld frequently and duel with Atem whenever he pleased.
"By the way, we still have some time left on this flight. Why don't we try out the dueling function of the Link System?" Kei Hiruta suggested, "It'll give me a chance to record some data for future debugging."
You Xuan shot him a sideways glance.
Seeing Kei Hiruta's eager smile, You Xuan wondered, "Is this really about debugging, or do you just want to watch me duel?"
