Chapter 244: Lady Mewaya
Chapter 244: Lady Mewaya
Even the weakest of the Death City's cavalry were Full Knights, and the more exceptional ones were Great Knights. With their specially bred warhorses, the combined explosive power of man and beast could easily slay ferocious beasts.
Not to mention the additional power of spell seals and battle arts.
Even a First Rank Legendary Knight would struggle to escape unscathed from a hundred cavalrymen.
But now, facing these beasts, their situation was dire.
"Roar!"
A wolf-headed, tiger-bodied, serpent-tailed monster charged at a knight, its immense strength toppling the warhorse and tearing the knight's upper body off with a single bite, swallowing it whole.
Not far away, two pig-shaped monsters were feasting on the entrails of a fallen warhorse.
This scene was playing out across the battlefield, with few knights managing to gain the upper hand against the beasts.
"Kill!"
Robin bellowed, spurring his horse towards a deer-like monster.
The deer monster was as large as an elephant, its antlers shimmering with a metallic hue. A gentle nudge from its antlers felt like colliding with a mountain.
"Clang!"
Robin felt as if he had run into a mountain, the impact numbing his arms and dazing his mind.
When he regained his senses, the deer monster had charged forward, lowering its head to toss him and his horse into the air.
The colossal force tore the warhorse apart, and Robin hit the ground hard.
As the deer monster closed in, his injuries left him helpless, awaiting his demise.
"Boom!"
Suddenly, an invisible force descended from above, like a giant hand, pinning the deer monster to the ground.
"Huh?"
A voice of surprise echoed.
Apparently, the strike hadn't killed the deer monster.
Several more energy blasts rained down, pounding the monster into the ground.
In a short while, the deer monster, which could withstand the blades of Legendary Knights, was reduced to a pile of mush.
Karl appeared, his battle qi surging from his body and coalescing into a giant Buddha aura behind him.
Ten Thousand Buddha Hands! Countless palm imprints descended from above, precisely striking the various monsters in the area, instantly clearing a large section.
Though these monsters had thick hides, any non-First Rank creature couldn't withstand Karl's casual strikes.
Even First Rank monsters would only require a few extra palms to defeat.
"Roar!"
Just as Karl was about to finish off the monsters, the ground shook, and a massive earthworm burst forth.
An earthworm?
This earthworm was over a hundred meters long, with long whiskers and a scaly exterior. Its abdomen seemed to have claws.
Before Karl could get a clear look, the 'earthworm' charged forward, accompanied by a terrifying pressure.
Dragon's Might!
A mental attack akin to a fear aura enveloped the entire area, instantly knocking out half of the surviving cavalry.
Even Karl felt the weight of this pressure, his expression turning solemn.
A Third Rank Dragon Leech!
Ten Thousand Buddha Hands—Vajra Seal!
"Boom!"
A gigantic golden palm imprint appeared in mid-air, colliding with the dragon leech. The ground shook, and a hurricane-like force rippled through the area.
Karl's face reddened as he took a step back, his fingers glowing with magical energy. He activated his Second Circle Spell, Cold-Hot Symphony.
This spell had already been enhanced once," he thought.
Instantly, the air in front of the dragon leech turned frigid, then scorching hot, alternating twenty times in a second.
"Roar!"
The rapid temperature changes were a severe torture for large creatures.
The dragon leech let out a sky-piercing howl as its scaly exterior peeled away, revealing raw, red flesh beneath.
Its body coiled, and it charged again.
This time, it seemed to carry the force of heaven and earth.
To Karl, the scene before him went dark, even the elemental particles disappearing from his senses.
The once-massive Buddha aura now seemed minuscule.
"Huff..."
Ten Thousand Buddha Hands—Thunder Seal!
"Crack!"
"Boom..."
Blinding thunder tore through the air, colliding with the incoming dragon leech. For a moment, the area was filled with lightning and thunder.
As the battle between man and beast raged, a silent shadow appeared behind the dragon leech.
Slender fingers gently traced the air.
"Swish!"
The scene froze.
Karl felt the pressure ease, and as he looked closely, he saw the massive body of the dragon leech slam into the ground.
Mid-air, a five-meter-tall giant stood.
"City Lord!"
"Your Highness!"
The surviving cavalrymen, still conscious, knelt on one knee, their faces filled with joy.
The City Lord?
The ruler of the City of Death, Lady Mewaya?
How could her body be so... gigantic? But Karl quickly remembered; the demi-gods of this world had giant bloodlines.
It was said that Duke Ferdinand stood ten meters tall.
At just over five meters, Lady Mewaya was considered petite, and the ancient deities were rumored to be a kilometer tall.
"Hmm."
Lady Mewaya nodded and slowly descended from the air, her body shrinking until she was of average human size.
"Karl?"
"As Karl met Mewaya's gaze, her eyes flashed with curiosity."
"The mysterious apothecary from Torrent City?" she asked, referring to Karl.
"Yes," he confirmed, slowly retracting his hand and revealing a palm seal to indicate his peaceful intentions. "It's an honor to meet you, Lady Mewaya. I'm glad to hear that Miss Olenna is doing well."
Karl had never met Mewaya before, but he was familiar with her 'daughter', Olenna.
"She's doing fine," Mewaya nodded, her voice carrying a hint of strangeness. "I never imagined that in this world, apart from those with divine bloodlines like us, there would be powerful beings like you."
"Rest assured," Karl assured her.
"I mean no harm," Mewaya added.
Karl believed her, and he could tell that she was injured, her aura unstable. Despite having killed the Dragon Leech upon its birth, Karl had also expended a significant amount of energy. Even if he were to engage in combat, he wouldn't be afraid.
"Lady Mewaya," Karl said, pausing to think before scanning the surroundings. "What's going on here?"
"There's an outer-realm evil deity named Dragon Scourge who has spread its seeds in our world," Mewaya explained, her breath steadying as she gestured for the surviving knights to clean up the battlefield. "Anyone who comes into contact with its seeds will transform into a 'dragon' form and become hostile towards other races. Once the entire world is filled with 'dragons', the evil deity will come to reap the harvest."
Mewaya paused, her beautiful eyes glinting as she looked at the Dragon Leech's corpse. "This Dragon Leech was likely a servant of Dragon Scourge. Without your help, I might not have been able to handle it."
"Hmm..." Karl murmured, realizing only now the fate of his followers. It seemed the rumors of her cold and detached nature were true.
The Dragon Leech was a servant? Karl regretted not trying to quickly finish the fight, as a high-rank servant could grant him over ten points of essence.
"As someone born in this world, I'm happy to help," Karl said, steadying himself. "Your Highness, I haven't been in Torrent City recently, so I'm not sure about the current situation there."
"Torrent City..." Mewaya shook her head lightly. "Since the collapse of the Moon Goddess's barrier and the fall of the divine realm fragments, the land has been torn apart. The City of Death has lost contact with the outside world, and Torrent City may have drifted away with the broken land."
"Perhaps it's become an isolated island in the Endless Sea," Karl said, the most optimistic scenario. Many cities had been destroyed by the divine realm fragments, and the evil deity's power had wreaked havoc.
Karl fell silent, aware that Torrent City's unique terrain and the Sorrow Tree he had imprinted with his soul seal were likely destroyed. The tree's resilient life force may not have survived, and the chances of the others' survival were slim.
"You're a being born and raised in this world, just like me," Mewaya said, her voice suddenly breaking the silence. "I trust you."
"I'd like to ask a favor of you. I need you to deal with a servant of the evil deity near the City of Death."
"Oh!" Karl raised an eyebrow, surprised. "You're not a native of this world, and even if you were, you're not of the same divine bloodline. Still, you have a servant you can't handle?"
Mewaya had demonstrated power comparable to his own, yet she had an opponent she couldn't defeat.
"It's a high-rank servant," Mewaya explained. "Its strength is similar to the Dragon Leech, but its methods are more bizarre, making it difficult to completely eliminate."
"We can sign a contract," Mewaya offered, producing a contract with a flick of her wrist. She looked at Karl. "Based on my calculations, the Moon Goddess's barrier will collapse within a century, leaving us with limited time."
"If we, the natives of this world, can't unite..." Karl began, trailing off.
"..." Karl opened his mouth, at a loss for words. "Your Highness, please forgive my frankness. Even with our utmost efforts, within a century, we can't hope to grow into beings capable of resisting the outer-realm evil deities."
"Unless the ancient gods return, surrender is our best chance for survival," Karl added.
"I know a way to leave this world," Mewaya said, her expression unchanging. "I can share it with you."
Hmm? Karl's eyes lit up.
