Chapter 244: Heard You Can One-Shot Me?
Chapter 244: Heard You Can One-Shot Me?
Ivan and Snape’s powerful Spells and exquisite combat skills left the surrounding young Wizards in awe, their hearts racing with excitement.
A few bold Gryffindor students couldn’t help but inch closer, hoping to get a better view, but they had to reluctantly give up the idea under Professor Flitwick’s repeated scolding.
"Magic can be used like this!" Hermione exclaimed, watching Ivan and Snape repeatedly redirect the residual effects of their Spells, incorporating them into new Spells to attack each other.
"Yeah, I didn’t know Professor Lockhart was this skilled!" Ron’s eyes widened as he stared at Lockhart on the stage, who was dueling Snape.
"But it looks like Snape is more powerful. Lockhart seems to be losing", Harry added.
The surrounding young Wizards nodded in agreement, and Professor Flitwick also nodded slightly, thinking that "Lockhart" was not far from defeat.
Using the Polyjuice Potion to transform into Ivan, Lockhart frowned in dissatisfaction. He felt that Ivan-Hals was holding back too much in the fight, which was not worth the three thousand Galleons he had spent!
Hearing the young Wizards’ chatter, Lockhart spoke loudly with disdain. "You’re underestimating him. If it were a real fight, Snape would be dead by now!"
Lockhart’s loud voice echoed throughout the hall, and everyone turned to look at him strangely, including the two professors. Harry asked in confusion.
"Ivan, how did you know Professor Lockhart wasn’t using his full strength?"
Lockhart cleared his throat, about to make up an excuse, when Hermione suddenly grabbed his right wrist, staring at him intently.
"Wait, what happened to the bracelet you always wear?"
How should I know? Lockhart panicked. Ivan hadn’t given him that thing, so he had to make something up.
"Um, I’ve lent it to someone temporarily."
"Who did you lend it to?" Hermione became even more suspicious.
Lockhart’s gaze darted around, looking at Ivan on the dueling platform. He noticed that Ivan, who was fighting Snape, also didn’t have the bracelet. For a moment, he stammered, unsure of what to say.
Lockhart’s silence and Hermione’s persistent questioning made the two professors realize something was amiss.
At another time, a young Wizard acting strangely might not have been a big deal.
But this was different. The school had just experienced an attack yesterday, and the culprit was still at large. Lockhart’s unusual behavior drew their attention.
Fortunately, a clear voice rang out from the crowd.
"He lent the bracelet to me."
Luna squeezed through the crowd, and when Hermione and others turned to look at her, she raised her right hand, showing the Magic Bracelet. The bone pieces clinked together, producing a crisp sound.
Hermione pursed her lips and said nothing.
Professors Flitwick and Sprout noticed the change in Hermione’s expression and glanced at Luna again before dismissing their suspicions about Lockhart.
During this delay, the situation on the dueling platform changed once more.
Just as the young Wizards had speculated, Ivan, who had been barely holding his ground against Snape, was about to give in.
As the attacker, Snape showed no mercy, seizing on a momentary lapse in Ivan’s reaction and launching a series of Spells. Layer by layer, he tore through the defenses created by the Protego and the Protective Cloak.
Finally, Snape's Wand flicked, and a red light flashed.
"Expelliarmus!"
The Disarming Charm hit its mark, and Ivan stumbled back several steps, almost falling off the platform. The patterns on his Protective Cloak faded, rendering it unusable for a while.
Most crucially, the Wand in Ivan's hand flew out of his grip and landed in Snape's hand.
Ivan furrowed his brow. Although he had a more powerful Wand hidden in his sleeve, it was clearly inconvenient to retrieve it.
At this point, he had already lost.
However, to Ivan's surprise, Snape tossed the Wand back to him.
Ivan caught it, looking at Snape in confusion, unsure of his intentions.
"You gave me a chance earlier, and now I'm giving you one", Snape said calmly, then glanced at Lockhart in the audience before turning back to Ivan with a mocking tone.
"Earlier, I heard Hals say that you could easily kill me, but you haven't used your full strength yet. I'd like to see that!"
Ivan's lips twitched. He had heard Lockhart's boastful comments from the audience, but he hadn't expected Snape to take it seriously.
"Professor Snape, we are demonstrating a Wizard's duel for the children. It's better to be a bit restrained", Ivan said tactfully, knowing that backing down outright wouldn't fit his current persona.
"Restrained? No, that's not necessary. I think everyone would prefer something a bit more bloody", Snape's face darkened. He interpreted Ivan's words as an acknowledgment of Lockhart's earlier claims.
With that thought, Snape suddenly turned to the young Wizards in the audience and said,
"Everyone, step back twenty meters!"
"Otherwise, Professor Lockhart's magic might be so astonishing that it affects you", Snape added mockingly.
"Step back, do as Professor Snape says!" Professor Flitwick shouted, ordering everyone to move to a safe distance to avoid being caught in Lockhart's super magic.
A few particularly mischievous young Wizards and Lockhart's die-hard fans shouted out,
"Professor Lockhart, we support you!"
"Professor Lockhart, you're the best!"
Standing in the Duelling Arena, Ivan saw everyone's expectant faces and was momentarily at a loss for how to back down.
If he had his modified Unicorn Wand and could activate the Enhancement Rune to cast an amplified Thunder Blast, he could bluff his way through and see how Snape would defend against it.
But he couldn't do that now; he couldn't risk exposing his Blood Magic.
Ivan was inwardly seething at Lockhart's reckless words.
Snape, growing impatient, raised his Wand, ready to make the first move.
At that moment, the doors to the Great Hall were slammed open.
The sudden noise disrupted the atmosphere, and everyone turned to see Filch, holding a lantern, burst in, his face panicked.
"Attack! Another student has been attacked! On the third-floor corridor!"
