Chapter 244: Delay
Chapter 244: Delay
The Fireball exploded, changing the situation and causing both sides to temporarily halt.
The Hidden cultivator was taken aback and then flew into a rage.
Unbearable and humiliating memories surfaced.
It was that damn Fireball again!
The Hidden cultivator moved away to a distant spot, looking around warily. "Who's using Fireball?" he asked angrily.
Silence surrounded them.
The leader of the Sin Cultivators, the One-Eyed man, scolded, "Scoundrel Lao San, ignore everything else for now. Let's kill off this Ji fellow first!"
Hidden in the shadows, Mo Hua's eyes narrowed slightly.
So the skinny, black-clad cultivator with the malicious gaze and expertise in stealth was called Scoundrel Lao San.
He silently committed the name to memory.
Scoundrel Lao San scanned their surroundings and extended his spiritual sense, but still, he found no trace of anyone, causing his heart to sink.
That feeling of being ambushed and not knowing by whom resurfaced.
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator frowned. "It's just a Fireball. What are you so afraid of?"
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator's cultivation was more profound than the average ninth layer of Qi Refining. As for Ji Qingbai, he had been at the ninth layer for many years, and his cultivation was equally matched with the former, which was why the stalemate had lasted so long.
Initially, the Sin Cultivator had intended to take advantage of the Hidden cultivator's sneak attack to finish off Ji Qingbai and his companions early on so they could retreat calmly.
Now, it seemed that Ji Qingbai's group could no longer hold on.
But he hadn't expected Scoundrel Lao San to be so timid because of a mere Fireball.
Scoundrel Lao San was reluctant to admit it, but he had to. "The person using the Fireball can see through my stealth technique. I fell into his hands last time."
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator let out a cold laugh. "Didn't you say that below the Foundation Establishment, no one could detect your stealth technique?"
Scoundrel Lao San's wrinkled, emaciated face turned bright red.
Seeing this, the One-Eyed Sin Cultivator stopped pressing the issue and asked, "Are you sure the cultivator using the Fireball is the same person who saw through your stealth technique last time?"
Scoundrel Lao San pondered for a moment, then suddenly became a little unsure.
That familiar feeling was identical.
It felt like a strand of spiritual sense was sticking to him like a bone-boring maggot, and he couldn't shake it off.
This made Scoundrel Lao San certain that the user of the Fireball was the same person as before.
But the power of this Fireball had increased significantly.
Previously, it had only been at the mid-term Qi Refining level, but now it possessed the might of a late-term Qi Refining spell. Although it was at most around the seventh or eighth layer.
Could it be that this person's realm had improved, and thus the power of the Fireball had also increased?
But if that were the case, this cultivator was only at the seventh or eighth layer of Qi Refining. How could someone at that level have a spiritual sense capable of seeing through his stealth technique? Scoundrel Lao San hesitated.
Seeing his indecision, the One-Eyed Sin Cultivator cursed, "Don't hesitate! Do what you need to do. Leave that cultivator to me."
Scoundrel Lao San's eyes darkened, and his figure vanished. The other Sin Cultivators also attacked Ji Qingbai and the other two Demon Hunters, forcing them to reveal openings in their defenses.
Scoundrel Lao San found an opportunity and slashed at the throat of one of the Demon Hunters with his dagger.
But he remained vigilant, on guard against the Fireball.
Sure enough, another Fireball came flying towards them.
Scoundrel Lao San quickly retreated and dodged, causing the Fireball to miss.
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator, who had been keeping an eye on their surroundings, suddenly had his eyes gleam with intense light.
He turned and rushed towards the direction from which the Fireball had come, which was also where Mo Hua was hiding.
"Show yourself, you coward!" he shouted.
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator dashed forward, appearing behind a large tree in a few flashes and discovering Mo Hua hiding there.
Small in stature, with a youthful face, clear eyes, and a smile directed at him.
"A little brat?"
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator was taken aback, but he didn't stop his movement. He reached out with his large hand, attempting to grab Mo Hua by the neck.
Mo Hua, however, executed the Flowing Water Step, calmly evading the Sin Cultivator's grasp.
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator exclaimed in surprise but reached out again to grab him.
Mo Hua flipped over, dodging once more, then used his feet to propel himself vertically up the tree trunk with the aid of spiritual power, walking lightly towards the tree's upper branches.
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator drew his sword and slashed at Mo Hua.
He swung his sword rapidly, but Mo Hua managed to dodge each strike at the last moment.
Each time, the One-Eyed Sin Cultivator thought the next strike would hit, but he always missed by a hair's breadth.
"Damn it!"
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator flew into a rage, but he was helpless. He found that the boy's movements were far superior to his own.
He couldn't even get close enough to grab the hem of the boy's clothes.
Such skill at such a young age was truly uncanny.
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator cursed and could only turn back to find Ji Qingbai, shouting, "Let's kill that Ji first!"
Killing the Ji father and son would allow them to obtain spirit stones from the Kong family.
The spirit stones were the most important thing.
As for these demon hunters and the little brat, they could settle the score with them later!
But just as he tried to flee, Mo Hua had other plans. With a swift movement, he cast a Fireball Technique, sending it crashing into the One-Eyed Sin Cultivator's back.
Though not lethal, it was extremely painful, and the fire's scorching on his meridians caused significant damage.
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator flew into a rage and turned back towards Mo Hua, but he couldn't catch him.
Whenever he tried to escape, Mo Hua would throw another fireball at him.
Mo Hua's fireballs were fast and accurate, leaving him with no choice but to take the hits head-on as he couldn't dodge them.
After three consecutive fireballs, his clothes were almost burnt to ashes.
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator was extremely frustrated. He couldn't catch up to Mo Hua, nor could he escape.
Finally, Scoundrel Lao San and the other two Sin Cultivators came to his aid, and only then did Mo Hua stop his attack.
But this respite also gave Ji Qingbai and his companions a chance to catch their breath.
The situation once again reached a stalemate.
Mo Hua wanted to buy time, and a stalemate was the best outcome for him.
The Sin Cultivators wanted to kill, but if this dragged on and the demon hunters' reinforcements arrived, they wouldn't be able to accomplish their task.
However, with Mo Hua's help in restraining them, the four-on-four battle remained indecisive, and it was impossible to determine a victor in a short period.
Especially Scoundrel Lao San, whose physical cultivation technique was quite ordinary. In a direct confrontation, he was no match for the demon hunters.
He could only rely on his stealth technique to attack when they least expected it.
Now that his stealth technique had been seen through by Mo Hua, he was as good as useless.
All the cultivators present turned their eyes towards Mo Hua.
The Sin Cultivators glared with anger, while Ji Qingbai looked at him with a sense of astonishment.
He never expected that Mo Hua, with only the seventh layer of Qi Refining cultivation, could restrain the deeply cultivated One-Eyed Sin Cultivator by himself.
And that eerie cultivator, who excelled in stealth, had his tracks exposed by Mo Hua as well.
Moreover, Mo Hua's Fireball Technique was executed with great proficiency.
Indeed, the tiger father has no dog son. Though Mo Hua's talents differed from Mo Shan and he didn't pursue the path of body refinement, his skills were equally remarkable.
Sensing that the situation was turning unfavorable, the One-Eyed Sin Cultivator glared at Ji Qingbai and said in a strange tone:
"This brat can't be your son, right? Oh, that's right, your son is already dead. His corpse is probably being eaten by wild wolves right now."
Upon hearing this, Ji Qingbai's heart twitched painfully, his face turned deathly pale, and his fingers trembled uncontrollably, almost unable to hold the knife.
Mo Hua turned to Ji Qingbai and said:
"Brother Ji isn't dead."
Ji Qingbai abruptly raised his head, his eyes reddening as he asked with a glimmer of hope, "Really?"
"Mhm." Mo Hua nodded earnestly.
Mo Hua's eyes shone with sincerity.
Ji Qingbai's spirit suddenly lifted, and it seemed like endless vigor surged throughout his body. He tightened his grip on the knife in his hand.
However, the One-Eyed Sin Cultivator coldly sneered:
"Impossible. That Ji brat is definitely dead!"
Mo Hua glanced at him and asked, "How do you know?"
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator replied coldly, "Zhao Hu went after him. How could he possibly survive? It would be a miracle if he wasn't torn to pieces."
"Is Zhao Hu the big guy?"
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator's remaining eye narrowed slightly, "Have you seen him?"
Mo Hua nodded.
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator scoffed, "Impossible! If you saw him, you would definitely be dead!"
Mo Hua said, "Well, I'm not dead. Whether he's dead or not is hard to say."
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator snorted coldly, "You brat, stop spouting nonsense!"
Mo Hua smiled and took out the half-burned storage bag, holding it in front of him and swinging it back and forth without saying a word.
The One-Eyed Sin Cultivator's pupil contracted.
That storage bag belonged to Zhao Hu!
