Chapter 243: The Visit
Chapter 243: The Visit
Upon hearing Chen Chuan's words, Old Qi shuddered, suddenly remembering Chen Chuan's Infinite Defense Permit. He realized that the situation might turn bloody.
But then, he had another thought.
"Wait!"
He hurriedly followed and approached Chen Chuan again.
"Chen Xiao, if you confront them directly, even if you can handle the Golden Shrimp group, they have Resonators. They might alter the process afterward and present evidence against you."
"The Golden Shrimp group likely has connections and is backed by a powerful gang. I know you're not afraid, Chen Xiao, but it's better to avoid trouble, right?"
Chen Chuan wasn't afraid. If he wanted to sever the link with other biocentric fields, it was simple—he just needed to let his second self transfer the invasion, leaving the other party with nothing. They wouldn't even know if it was him.
However, if there was another way to avoid it, he was willing to accept it.
"Old Qi, do you have any suggestions?" Chen Chuan asked.
Old Qi suggested, "Find Wu Xiao. Let him provide us with technical support. He can block anything unfavorable to you and quickly locate the person you're looking for."
Chen Chuan replied, "Wu Xiao probably doesn't need money, and this matter has nothing to do with him. It seems unnecessary for him to get involved."
Old Qi looked up and explained, "Wu Xiao is a person with a strong sense of justice. You can see that he's from a wealthy family and left home to pursue justice. That's why he took up this line of work.
He never harms others, and sometimes he even refuses assignments from the boss to steal information. But his technical skills are truly impressive. The boss can't do anything about it, and he's always willing to help us.
Also, he already knows about this matter. I guess that even if we don't tell him anything, he'll still help us secretly."
Chen Chuan glanced at him, thinking for a moment. "Old Qi, if you're sure..."
"I am sure!" Old Qi said.
"Chen Xiao, wait for me. I'll go up and talk to Wu Xiao." Old Qi quickly rushed back upstairs. Before long, a new contact request appeared on his Boundary Token.
The contact's avatar was a swordsman wearing an eyepatch, with a crescent moon in the background. The swordsman sat on a cliff, holding a sword, looking desolate. A cape fluttered in the wind behind him, and a small monkey stood on his shoulder, jumping up and down, making faces at the viewer.
The name displayed was Wu Bei.
After confirming the addition, Chen Chuan immediately connected, and Wu Bei's excited voice came through, "Chen Xiao, thank you for letting me join. I'll definitely help you."
Chen Chuan reminded him seriously, "Wu Xiao, take care of yourself, too."
"Will do!"
After their conversation ended, a sound suddenly came from the Boundary Token. Chen Chuan looked and saw that Wu Bei had sent a map showing the main activity areas and the headquarters of the Golden Shrimp Commission Team.
Old Qi hurried downstairs and saw the map as well. "See, Chen Xiao, I told you. With Wu Xiao's help, we can save a lot of trouble."
Chen Chuan nodded and said, "We can't waste time. I'll go there now."
Old Qi agreed and accompanied Chen Chuan out of the apartment building. After getting into the car, Old Qi drove towards the Golden Shrimp team's headquarters based on the address provided by Wu Bei. On the way, he turned to Chen Chuan and asked, "Chen Xiao, do you need to prepare anything?"
"No need," Chen Chuan replied.
When Chen Chuan left the apartment, he had the Xuejun Blade and Wu Ji Spear with him, and he was wearing protective armor. This was enough.
At the same time, he was reviewing the specific information about the Golden Shrimp team that Wu Bei had sent.
This commission team was established five years ago, and they had an active group in each major district of Central City. The person who killed Xiao Man and Chong Dage, Bo Chen, belonged to the Radiant Zone team, and his captain was Lang Teng. At the time, they were outside the Slum Area, and it was likely that Lang Teng himself gave the order.
While this team specialized in taking anomalous algae-related commissions, they didn't limit themselves to this type of business. They accepted other commissions as well, but they were particularly active when handling anomalous algae cases.
When dealing with different clients, they made distinctions. When facing people of higher status or the elite class, they would dispatch more reliable and professional teams, using problem-solving to expand their network.
However, when dealing with the lower class, they often employed the simplest and most violent methods. They didn't care about potential subsequent anomalies because those areas were usually remote, and any anomalies would disappear once the people were gone.
As they were driving, Wu Bei sent another message, "Chen Xiao, I checked the information, and half an hour ago, Lang Teng and his team returned to their headquarters in Hong Sheng District on Shui Nan Road."
"Thank you, Wu Xiao," Chen Chuan said.
He turned to Old Qi and said, "Old Qi, drop me off in Hong Sheng District. I'll go by myself to avoid any potential trouble for you later."
Old Qi agreed solemnly.
After driving for over an hour, they stopped at an intersection. Old Qi said, "Chen Xiao, be careful. Call me if you need me, and I'll come to pick you up."
Chen Chuan nodded and got out of the car, heading towards a tram stop.
Meanwhile, inside the apartment, Wu Bei utilized the field nodes spread throughout the city as a springboard, maintaining a constant connection with Chen Chuan's Boundary Token. This way, he could provide immediate technical support as if he were by Chen Chuan's side.
Unlike Chen Chuan's composure, as the tram approached the Golden Shrimp team's headquarters, Wu Bei felt a sense of tension. He brought a large bag of snacks and started munching, filling his mouth. When nervous, he had a habit of eating to temporarily distract his mind.
The tram arrived with a ringing bell, and Chen Chuan disembarked along with a few sparse passengers.
Hong Sheng District was located in the northwest of Central City and was one of the oldest urban areas. The public facilities here were visibly neglected and in dire need of maintenance. Tall buildings were few and far between.
The people around him wore outdated and old-fashioned Boundary Tokens, and even their clothing was unappealing. The streets were filled with an atmosphere of decay and desolation.
Following the directions on his Boundary Token, he walked about a kilometer and soon arrived at the Golden Shrimp Commission Team's location.
It was a five-story office building, and through his Boundary Token, he could see a massive golden shrimp floating above it. Two pairs of shrimp claws hung downward, forming two semi-circles as if ready to clamp onto something.
Numerous patrol security personnel surrounded the area, and there was a large parking lot in front with over a dozen vehicles. He took a glance, and his Boundary Token flashed a few times, highlighting one particular car. It was the same one he had seen earlier outside the shanty area. The presence of the car indicated that its owner was likely inside.
Chen Chuan took a few looks and headed in that direction. The security personnel downstairs immediately noticed him, and his Boundary Token prompted him that his identity was being verified. Wu Bei's voice sounded in his ear, "Chen Xiao, I've replaced your identity information. They won't stop you."
The security guards observed him for a while but did not intervene, just as Wu Bei had said.
At that moment, Wu Bei spoke again, "This building might have self-set field interference, but they should have their own field frequency. Chen Xiao, hold on for a moment while I look for it..."
Chen Chuan slightly slowed his pace.
Wu Bei's skills were impressive, and in less than half a minute, he found it, "Got it! Haha, it's just a fifth-level frequency. Their Resonator must be lazy. But they have two frequencies, and they might switch in half an hour. When that happens, my intrusion might be discovered."
"Thank you, Wu Xiao," Chen Chuan replied. He looked at the building and said, "It won't take more than half an hour." With that, he pushed open the glass door and entered the building.
In the lobby, a Golden Shrimp image appeared, and a voice from the receptionist greeted him, "Welcome to the Golden Shrimp Commission Team. May I ask what commission you would like to entrust us with?"
Chen Chuan found the book he was looking for in the bar.
Not all commissions went through the platform; some were private and not suitable for public display. Therefore, it wasn't unusual for clients to visit in person, and the receptionist wasn't surprised.
"I'm looking for Lang Teng," Chen Chuan said.
"Do you have an appointment if you wish to specify a commissioner?" the receptionist asked.
Chen Chuan didn't respond. Instead, he noticed that a three-dimensional layout of the entire building had appeared on his Boundary Token, with densely packed human figures inside. Wu Bei had used field information to communicate and mark the locations of everyone using the same field frequency.
Wu Bei's voice came through, "Chen Xiao, the person you're looking for is in the fourth-floor rest room. I just found out that this person seems to be the team leader of the Golden Shrimp Team, and there's also a Resonator on the fifth floor. I didn't alert him, and there's no mark above."
Chen Chuan scanned the layout and located the staircase on one side, heading directly towards it.
"Sir?" the receptionist called out.
Seeing that Chen Chuan was ignoring her, she immediately contacted Lang Teng on the fourth floor via their Boundary Tokens. He was watching a movie using the company's public Boundary Token and impatiently asked, "What is it?"
"There's a visitor who seems to be looking for you for a commission, but he didn't make an appointment beforehand. He's already on his way up," the receptionist explained.
"Let him come. It might be a high-paying private job. Besides, this is the headquarters of the Golden Shrimp Commission Team. I don't need to think too much about it," Lang Teng replied nonchalantly.
"Yes, Captain Lang," the receptionist responded.
When Chen Chuan was halfway up the stairs, he received a prompt that Lang Teng was waiting for him in the fourth-floor rest room. Without changing his pace, he continued step by step until he reached the fourth floor. Standing in the spacious hallway, he identified the rest room and made his way there.
The door to the rest room was already open, and Lang Teng was sitting on the sofa, watching Chen Chuan approach from outside. "Are you the one looking for me? What can I do for you?" he asked.
"Lang Teng? Are you the team leader in charge of Radiant Zone anomaly commissions?" Chen Chuan inquired.
"An anomaly commission?" Lang Teng's interest waned upon hearing this. He had been about to stand up to shake hands but instead leaned back.
These types of commissions often led to issues with prolonged human contact, so Lang Teng usually didn't handle them personally. He would assign them to his subordinates unless it involved someone influential, but that wasn't his responsibility. Still, he saw no reason to turn away potential business.
"Yes, it's me. So, what's the situation?" Lang Teng asked.
"It's you, huh?" Chen Chuan said, and in the next moment, he swiftly raised the Xuejun Blade in his hand. With a 'swoosh,' the blade sheath pierced Lang Teng's forehead and emerged from the back of his head, pinning him to the sofa's backrest.
Lang Teng jerked backward, his brain instantly damaged. However, his body twitched and jerked as his implant activated, causing his legs and hands to move uncontrollably, almost as if he were dancing.
Wu Bei had intended to interfere with Lang Teng's implant to make it easier for Chen Chuan to finish him off, but he was stunned when Chen Chuan pinned Lang Teng down in an instant.
Just as Lang Teng died, a red light flashed on the Boundary Tokens of everyone in the building.
"Oh no, they've discovered us!" Wu Bei exclaimed, feeling regretful that he hadn't had time to disconnect the field link.
"Then let them come," Chen Chuan said, slowly drawing the blade from the sheath. The lobby instantly lit up with a cold glow.
