Chapter 243: The Visit
Chapter 243: The Visit
Upon hearing Chen Chuan's words, Lao Qi shuddered, suddenly remembering Chen Chuan's Infinite Defense Permit. He realized that what was about to unfold might be a bloody affair.
But then, he thought of something else.
"Wait!"
He hurriedly followed Chen Chuan and caught up with him.
"Little Brother Chen, if you go to their place like this, even if you can handle the Golden Shrimp gang, they have a Resonator with them. They might alter the process afterward and present evidence against you."
"The Golden Shrimp gang might have someone backing them, and they have a powerful gang supporting them from the shadows. I know you're not afraid, Little Brother Chen, but it's better to avoid trouble, right?"
Chen Chuan wasn't afraid; if he wanted to sever the link with other biota fields, he could simply have his Second Self transfer the invasion. The other party would gain nothing, and it would be impossible to prove whether it was him or not.
However, if there was another way to avoid it, he was willing to accept it.
"Lao Qi, do you have any suggestions?" Chen Chuan asked.
Lao Qi offered a suggestion, "Find Wu Bei. Let him provide us with technical support. He can block anything unfavorable to you, and he can also help you quickly find the person you're looking for."
Chen Chuan replied, "Wu Bei probably doesn't need money, and this matter has nothing to do with him. There's no need for him to get involved."
Lao Qi looked up and explained, "Wu Bei is a man with a strong sense of justice. You can see, he's from a wealthy family and left home to pursue justice. That's why he took up this line of work.
He never harms others. Sometimes, he even refuses assignments from the boss to steal information. But his technical skills are truly impressive. The boss can't do anything about it, and he's always willing to help us.
Also, he already knows about this matter. I guess that even if we don't tell him anything, he'll still help us secretly."
Chen Chuan glanced at him and thought for a moment, "Lao Qi, if you're sure..."
"I'm sure!" Lao Qi assured him. "Little Brother Chen, wait for me. I'll go upstairs and talk to Wu Bei." As he spoke, he quickly hurried back upstairs. Before long, a new contact request appeared on his Boundary Vessel.
The contact's avatar was a swordsman wearing an eyepatch, with a crescent moon in the background. The swordsman sat on a cliff, holding a sword and looking desolate. His cape fluttered in the wind, and a small monkey on his shoulder jumped up and down, making faces at him.
The name displayed was Wu Bei.
After confirming the addition, both parties established a connection. Wu Bei's excited voice came through, "Little Brother Chen, thank you for letting me join. I'll definitely help you."
Chen Chuan solemnly reminded him, "Wu Bei, you be careful too."
"Okay!"
After finishing the conversation, Chen Chuan's Boundary Vessel suddenly received a notification. He took a look, and Wu Bei had sent a map showing the main activity area of the Golden Shrimp Commission Team, along with the location of their headquarters.
At this moment, Lao Qi hurriedly came downstairs. He also saw the map and said, "See, Little Brother Chen, I was right. With Wu Bei's help, we can save a lot of trouble."
Chen Chuan nodded and said, "We can't waste time. I'm going there now."
Lao Qi agreed, and they both left the apartment building. After getting into the car, Lao Qi drove towards the Golden Shrimp team's headquarters based on the address provided by Wu Bei. On the way, he asked Chen Chuan, "Little Brother Chen, do you need to prepare anything?"
"No," Chen Chuan replied.
When Chen Chuan left the apartment, he had his Snow Lady Sword and Martial Halberd Gun with him, and he was wearing his protective clothing. These were more than enough.
At this moment, he was also reviewing the specific information about the Golden Shrimp team sent by Wu Bei.
This commission team was established five years ago, and they had an activity group in each major district of Central City. The person who killed Xiao Man and Chong Dage was a member of the Brightlight District group, Bochen. His team leader was Lang Teng, who was outside the slum district at the time and most likely gave the order himself.
Although this team specialized in accepting anomaly commissions, they didn't limit themselves to that kind of business. They took on other commissions as well, but they were particularly active when handling anomaly cases.
When dealing with different clients, they made distinctions. When facing people with some status or power, they would send a more reliable team to solve their problems and expand their connections.
However, when dealing with the lower class, they would use the simplest and most brutal methods. They didn't care about any subsequent anomalies because those areas were often in remote locations, and the anomalies would disappear once the people were gone.
As they were driving, Wu Bei sent another message, "Little Brother Chen, I checked the information, and half an hour ago, Lang Teng and his team returned to their headquarters on Water South Road in the Hong Sheng District."
"Thank you, Wu Bei," Chen Chuan said.
He turned to Lao Qi and said, "Lao Qi, drop me off at the Hong Sheng District. I'll go there myself to avoid any trouble for you later."
Lao Qi agreed solemnly.
After driving for over an hour, they stopped at an intersection. Lao Qi said, "Little Brother Chen, be careful. Call me, and I'll come to pick you up."
Chen Chuan nodded and got out of the car, heading towards a tram stop.
Meanwhile, inside the apartment, Wu Bei was using the biota field boundary tokens scattered throughout the city as a springboard to maintain a constant connection with Chen Chuan's Boundary Vessel. This was like having a direct view of Chen Chuan's actions and providing immediate technical support.
Unlike Chen Chuan's composure, as the tram approached the Golden Shrimp team's headquarters, Wu Bei couldn't help but feel tense. He grabbed a large bag of snacks and started munching, filling his mouth. When he was nervous, he couldn't help but eat, temporarily clearing his mind.
The tram arrived at the station with a ringing bell, and Chen Chuan disembarked along with the sparse passengers.
Hong Sheng District, located in the northwest of Central City, is one of the oldest districts. The public facilities here clearly showed signs of neglect, with few tall buildings visible to the naked eye.
The people around Chen Chuan wore outdated and inferior boundary vessels, and even their clothing was unappealing. A sense of decay and desolation permeated the streets.
Following the directions on his boundary vessel, Chen Chuan walked for about a kilometer and soon arrived at the headquarters of the Golden Shrimp Commission Team.
It was a five-story office building, and through his boundary vessel, he could see a giant golden shrimp floating above the rooftop. Its two pairs of pincers hung down, forming two semi-circles that seemed ready to grasp something.
Numerous security patrols surrounded the building, and a large parking lot in front had over a dozen vehicles. Chen Chuan took a glance, and his boundary vessel flashed a few times, indicating one particular car—the same one he had seen earlier in the slum district. The car's presence here suggested that its owner was likely inside.
Chen Chuan took a few looks and headed towards the parking lot. The security guards below immediately noticed him, and his boundary vessel prompted him that his identity was being verified. Wu Bei's voice rang in his ear, "Mr. Chen, I've replaced your identity information; they won't stop you."
The security guards observed him for a while but did not hinder his progress.
Wu Bei spoke again, "This building might have self-imposed field interference, but they should have their own field frequency. Hold on a moment, Chen, I'll find it..."
Chen Chuan slowed his pace slightly.
Wu Bei was skilled; within twenty seconds, he found it, "Got it! It's just a five-level frequency. Their Resonator must be lazy. But they have two frequencies; they might change it in half an hour, and my intrusion might be discovered then."
"Thank you, Wu," Chen Chuan replied. He looked at the building and said, "It won't take half an hour." He pushed open the glass door and entered the building.
In the lobby, a rotating holographic image of the Golden Shrimp Commission Team greeted visitors. A voice from the reception desk welcomed him, "Welcome to the Golden Shrimp Commission Team. How may we assist you with your commission, esteemed guest?"
Not all commissions went through the platform; some were private and sensitive, so it wasn't unusual for clients to visit in person.
"I'm looking for Lang Teng," Chen Chuan stated.
"Are you requesting a specific team member? Do you have an appointment?"
Chen Chuan didn't respond. Instead, he noticed a three-dimensional layout of the entire building on his boundary vessel, with numerous figures marked by Wu Bei using field information communication. Everyone in the building using the same field frequency was now identified.
Wu Bei's voice chimed in, "Chen, the person you're looking for is in the fourth-floor lounge. I just found out that he's the team leader's brother. There's also a Resonator on the fifth floor, but I didn't alert him, and he's not marked on the map."
Chen Chuan scanned the layout and located the staircase on one side. He headed directly towards it.
"Sir?" the receptionist called out.
Seeing that Chen Chuan ignored her, she immediately contacted Lang Teng on the fourth floor via their boundary vessels. At the time, Lang Teng was watching a movie using the company's public boundary token. Annoyed, he asked, "What is it?"
"Captain Lang, there's a visitor who seems to want to commission you, but they didn't make an appointment beforehand. The client is already heading upstairs."
"Let them come. It might be big business. Tell them I'm on the fourth floor." Lang Teng didn't seem concerned.
Direct commissions like this often meant significant business, and since this was the Golden Shrimp Commission Team's headquarters, he didn't think much of it.
"Understood, Captain Lang."
As Chen Chuan walked halfway, the system in the hallway informed him that Lang Teng was waiting in the fourth-floor lounge. He adjusted his pace and headed towards the lounge on the fourth floor.
The lounge door was already open, and Lang Teng was sitting on the sofa, watching Chen Chuan approach. "Are you the one looking for me? What can I do for you?"
"Lang Teng, I'm here for an unusual commission," Chen Chuan said.
Hearing this, Lang Teng immediately lost interest. He had been about to stand up and shake hands, but now he leaned back.
Such commissions often led to problems with prolonged human contact, so Lang Teng usually assigned them to his subordinates, unless the client had influence or power, which wasn't his concern. Such cases were handled by the elite team, but with the client showing up in person, it made no sense to turn away business.
"Yes, it's me. So, what's your situation?"
"That's right."
As Chen Chuan finished speaking, he swiftly raised the Snow Lady Sword in his hand, and with a 'hiss,' the scabbard pierced through Lang Teng's forehead, emerging from the back of his head and pinning him to the sofa.
Lang Teng jerked backward, his brain instantly destroyed. However, his implanted body's emergency response caused his legs and arms to twitch and move, resembling a dancing shrimp.
Wu Bei had intended to interfere with Lang Teng's implant to aid Chen Chuan, but he was stunned to see Lang Teng immobilized so quickly.
Just as Lang Teng died, all the boundary vessels in the building flashed red.
"Damn! They've discovered us!" Wu Bei exclaimed, regretting that he hadn't addressed the field link disconnection issue in time.
"Let them come, then!" Chen Chuan declared.
With one hand on the hilt of the Snow Lady Sword, he slowly withdrew the blade from the scabbard, and a cold glint flashed through the lobby.
