Chapter 243: The Navy Caused It, the Navy Must Resolve It
Chapter 243: The Navy Caused It, the Navy Must Resolve It
Moe Island’s upper district.
Klah glared darkly at Gardi ahead, who leaned on his longsword and gasped for breath.
His body was already covered in wounds. After Klah absorbed his blood essence and analyzed his fighting style, this man could no longer land a hit—but neither could he die.
No matter how much damage Klah inflicted, Gardi remained standing and kept attacking.
“Are you immortal or something?” Klah snarled.
Gardi’s lips curled into a proud smirk. “My master enhanced my resilience. I won’t fall easily. As for you—guarding this passage, you’ll never get past me.”
Only his master knew the escape tunnel. Even if that person could fly, locating his master before he reached the Grand Line would be impossible. Once his master boarded his speedboat and merged with the ocean using his ability, even Observation Haki couldn’t detect him.
After they left, his master would return and resume ruling Moe Island, bringing prosperity once more.
“If you want to pass, step over my corpse!”
Gardi tightened his grip on the longsword. As he prepared to attack, his body suddenly stiffened, eyes widening.
His aura was fading.
Not his own—his sword’s.
Klah sensed it clearly—the bond between this man and his blade had drastically weakened. The seamless unity had vanished, leaving only an ordinary swordsman.
“My sword… my sword!”
Gardi turned instinctively, shouting, “Master!!”
Klah seized the opening. His body vanished in a flash, reappearing before Gardi. His clawed hand lashed toward Gardi’s head.
Hiss!
Half of Gardi’s face split open, flesh peeling back as his eyeball flew skyward.
Klah grinned savagely. “You’ve weakened significantly. My strikes will tear through you now. Did that dwarf get eliminated by Mr. Kuro? Are you a Devil Fruit user? Only that could sap your strength. Without it, you’re just a durable punching bag.”
The scientific enhancements couldn’t be undone.
But abilities granted by Devil Fruits vanished with their users.
Previously, Klah’s surprise attacks would’ve been blocked.
Now, Gardi couldn’t even match his speed—his power had plummeted.
Klah’s hand shot forward again.
Hiss!
Before Gardi could counter, Klah’s claws pierced his throat. With a wrenching twist, a crimson arc erupted like a geyser. The force tore Gardi’s head clean off, drenching Klah in blood.
“Blood… seeing it, my entire body thrums with excitement.”
Devil Fruits warped their users. In battle, as a Moon Wolf, Klah craved blood above all. Even if he could kill elegantly, an instinctual hunger for carnage overpowered him.
The more blood, the better.
A single corpse was insufficient.
Klah licked his lips, eyes blazing with exhilaration.
Where were the other prey?
“Could you at least keep it tidier? All this blood is ruining my appetite.”
Who dared interrupt the mighty Mr. Klah?!
Did they wish to become a crimson splatter?!
Klah turned, his pupils flashing red, then spotted Lida casually biting into an apple.
“Understood, Miss Lida. I’ll be more mindful next time.”
Klah’s form gradually shifted back to human. Adjusting his glasses, he spoke.
“Step back. You’re covered in blood—it’s disgustingly sloppy.”
Once someone who’d eat anywhere for a meal, Lida had been spoiled rotten by Mr. Kuro into a finicky little princess.
---
Jerman Kingdom, Moe Island’s western realm, stretched in a chain-like shape. A century ago, its pirate ancestors seized this land from Sukunai Kingdom, founding Jerman. This sowed the seeds of endless conflict.
Sukunai sought to reclaim their territory, sparking a war that raged across generations. Though the original dispute faded, hostility remained deeply ingrained. Peace? Neither nation had such a concept anymore.
At Jerman’s Port military base, the closest point to Sukunai, a noble officer stood on a seaside cliff. Staring at the distant silhouette of Grand Line’s opposite shore, he sighed.
Time to march.
He turned to the rigid, statue-like Katana Corps and the hulking, butcher-framed Sawtooth Blade Corps behind him—his main offensive forces this year.
According to intelligence, Sukunai had only received Long Spear Corps and newly developed Straight Cutters—weak defenders. Their economy must’ve been dire, presenting the perfect invasion window.
This campaign would cripple Sukunai’s resistance, securing at least two years of peace.
“That dwarf…”
His noble expression darkened. Moe Island’s Napoleon supplied these potent, affordable consumption-type soldiers, a necessity no one could ignore—even staunch opponents like himself.
Refusing purchases would only strengthen their rivals. Trapped in an arms race, this endless cycle bored him rigid.
Yet resistance was futile. Only through war could peace be preserved.
“General! General, trouble!”
A panicked aide shouted, “Weapon Soldiers can’t grip their weapons!”
“What?!”
The noble’s eyes widened as weapons clattered from soldiers’ hands to the ground.
“Without weapons, you’re no Weapon Soldiers! We poured gold into your creation—our citizens’ lives into your programming! Retrieve them!”
The soldiers moved, crouching to obey. Yet no matter how they grasped, their fingers slipped through the blades before their faces.
As if the weapons were invisible.
This phenomenon spread swiftly—Jerman and Sukunai alike descended into chaos.
---
Mariejois.
“Report! The World Nobles’ weapon slaves have gone rogue. They’re rebelling—how should we proceed?”
A Navy officer barged into the Meeting Hall, kneeling before the five elders.
“We’re aware. Dismissed.”
The mustached elder waved a hand. The officer bowed, exiting.
“As predicted, the Bonaparte family’s unreliable. Claiming it was pure research—he relied on Devil Fruit abilities. Now he’s dead, those ‘masterpieces’ are junk.” The elder with a map-shaped birthmark spat.
“Precisely. We tolerated his Moe Island rule to balance Jerman and Sukunai’s power, and develop Navy-substitutes. A miscalculation.” The red-faced elder grumbled.
The swordsman elder added, “Had he succeeded, everything would’ve obeyed him. Ambitious, but his downfall came swiftly. Lucius Kro claims he perished in a landslide and tsunami—a flimsy excuse. That child’s resourceful.”
“Controlling one person’s simpler. A shame.” The curly-haired elder glanced around. “As for Moe Island—Navy’s mess, let Navy clean. If they fail, we’ll intervene. Smaller issues matter less—Sengoku’s resignation and New World’s balance take priority. Marshall D. Teach resurfaced, destroying two villages—Whitebeard’s abilities.”
“Two abilities? Unheard of. D’s bloodline must be eradicated.”
