Chapter 243: Man's Greatest Talent is Forgetting
Chapter 243: Man's Greatest Talent is Forgetting
"Hahahaha!"
Upon hearing this, Sag threw back his head and laughed loudly, "Are they inviting me to be a Warlord after I killed a Celestial Dragon? Are you sure the World Government isn't joking?"
"This is an order from above. I'm merely the messenger, and it's up to you to accept or refuse," Gernika said expressionlessly. "Regardless, we have agreed to the condition for passing through Mary Geoa."
"Why are you inviting me time and again? What's so attractive about me? Hmph, I'm not interested. I have vast territories to conquer, and there's no need for me to stoop to that level. I'm not like Teach, resorting to any means to achieve my goals." Sag chuckled.
The conditions offered were becoming more and more lenient.
Becoming a Warlord would, of course, bring about immense benefits. One could rely on the power of the World Government to gain more assistance in the New World, quickly seize territories, and establish a formidable presence.
But it was meaningless because a fallout was inevitable, and Sag didn't want his territories to be infiltrated by the World Government. Spies were one thing, as they only sought intelligence. However, once there was collaboration with the World Government, there would be too many unwanted interferences.
"Understood. I will report this truthfully. Also, regarding Charlros Saint, please refrain from insulting him during this period. Additionally, at which location do you plan to return him to us?"
Leaning back in his sofa and propping up his legs, Sag pointed at Gernika and laughed at Lily, "See? Now, this is what a professional negotiation attitude looks like! Knowing the rules and understanding the bigger picture—unlike your colleagues, who have no idea what respect means! Hey, why don't you come work for me too? I really admire your attitude in carrying out orders."
"You're joking," Gernika said, glancing at Luci. "You already have someone like me, don't you?"
"Hohohohoho, alright then, I agree. I won't touch that guy, and as for how we will return him to you, we will arrive at Mary Geoa tomorrow morning. It's up to you to figure out how my crew and I will get there."
"Once we reach the New World, you can send a ship to follow us, and I will hand this guy over to you then."
"Very well, then I won't disturb you further."
Gernika bowed once more, and his figure faded away, leaving only a residual shadow.
"Hey, Luci, is that your superior?" Sag asked, turning to Luci.
"No, we are not interconnected," Luci slowly shook his head. "We are directly under the World Government, and they are directly under the Celestial Dragons. There is a difference in the level of orders, but we do not have command over them."
Sag nodded and took another sip of wine, "Never mind, it's not important. Since we've agreed, let's loosen the restraints on that guy. No more beating him up."
At these words, his subordinates remained silent.
In fact, aside from their Lord Sag, who dared to lay a hand on a Celestial Dragon, only Lady Lily would take action at critical moments. But the only one who occasionally trampled on the Celestial Dragons with her feet was Lord Sag.
While insulting the Celestial Dragons excited them, they still dared not offend the Celestial Dragons due to that deep-rooted ideological problem.
"Sag, why do they insist on inviting you to be a Warlord? Is there any special reason?" Lily asked.
She could only think of two reasons: his identity as a descendant of Ohara and the Pluton Blueprint. However, the latter had already been dismissed by Renee, who asserted that with the world's current technological level, it was impossible to replicate this ancient weapon. Thus, he wouldn't give the World Government this technology.
Ohara?
Regardless of whether others believed it, Lily was sure that Sag was illiterate. They had spent the most time together, and every day, Lily had seen how Sag couldn't understand a single word of the historical text in the captain's room.
"He can't even understand the common language," Lily said. "It's not so much about information and literacy."
"Do you think the World Government is unaware of this matter?"
"They probably have their own plans, but whatever it is, I'm not interested. I've already refused," Sag replied.
Sag waved his hand and exclaimed, "My friends, let's continue the party tonight to celebrate the completion of my plan. But don't drink too much, as we'll be entering Mary Geoa and venturing into the New World tomorrow morning!"
"Oh!"
His subordinates cheered in response.
...
The Grand Line, also known as the Red Line, was incredibly vast. In terms of width, it rivaled that of the Grand Soil Continent, which could be considered massive.
The continent wasn't devoid of features; it, too, had seasonal variations and numerous territories.
The location of the 'Holy Land' was the same as that of the 'Reversed Mountain'. At its center, lay the incredibly prestigious and authoritative World Government, which had ruled the world for eight hundred years.
Mary Geoa.
Pangaea Palace.
In a massive space that resembled a conference room, an elderly man with white curly hair and a fluffy beard donned a black suit and a flat hat. A scar ran down the left side of his face, and he leaned on a cane as he gazed out of a large window.
His sharp eyes seemed to peer through the city, beyond the lofty red soil, and into the depths below.
"He didn't agree," the elderly man said flatly, turning his head to look behind him. "But that was to be expected."
One of the Five Elders Stars, the Scientific Defense Martial God, Jay Gollucia-Satan.
Seated behind him were three figures on two sofas, one long and the other short.
"Ah," came a voice from the left sofa. A bald, bespectacled elder with a knife in his embrace nodded and spoke: "After all, he is a descendant of Ohara. The accumulation of knowledge and absorption of information may have led him to sense something."
One of the Five Elder Stars, the Financial Martial God, Izanbaron V. Nasushiro.
"That's unlikely," said the golden-haired, red-skinned elder seated to his right on the long sofa. "While he has been studying, the development of a plan only happened in recent years. Ohara was destroyed long ago, and he simply doesn't want to become a Warlord."
One of the Five Elder Stars, the Agricultural Martial God, Shepherd X. Pete.
"Then let's let him go. It's better to let him create chaos in the New World and fight with those people. It's in our interests to maintain a new balance, regardless of who wins," said the bald elder with two tufts of hair shaped like the number eight on his left.
One of the Five Elder Stars, the Legal Martial God, Topman Wolchuri.
"Balance must not be broken. Regardless, the current situation is the most beneficial," said the green-suited elder with a hoarse voice.
Seated beside him was an elder with a bluish-green suit, a bald head, and a birthmark on his forehead. "However, the matter with the Celestial Dragon is always a nuisance. The whole world witnessed that scene, and our sanctity has been shattered once more."
One of the Five Elder Stars, the Environmental Martial God, Maracas Mars.
"Control public opinion, then. Inform them that it was a false existence. Once Charlros returns, we'll have room to maneuver. Then, all we can do is wait. After all, mankind's greatest talent is forgetting," Satan said gravely.
