Chapter 243: Coffee Estate
Chapter 243: Coffee Estate
Mira City Pokemon Center.
"Almost~" cooed the Almost Doll, greeting Jinghe with a sweet wave as she entered the center.
Miss Joey from the Kalos Region was accompanied by a Chubby Chimp and an Almost Doll instead of a Happiny or Chansey.
In the Unova Region, Pokemon Centers were primarily staffed by Almost Dolls, while in Kalos, Chubby Chimps were more common.
But exceptions existed, like this particular Pokemon Center.
Almost Dolls were Normal-type Pokemon with exceptional hearing, able to detect even the faintest sounds with radar-like precision.
They could assess a Pokemon's health and mood by gently touching their ears to another's and sensing their heartbeat.
These Pokemon were even capable of determining the exact moment a Pokemon hatched from its egg.
Ideal for healing and rescue, they were innately inclined to help others.
Gramps eagerly waved back at the sight of the Almost Doll.
The Almost Doll, with its plump and adorable appearance, blushed and turned its head slightly, offering Gramps a sunny smile.
"It seems to like you a lot, Teacher Jinghe," Miss Joey explained with a smile.
"Haha," Jinghe chuckled, "It's a bit too early for it to like me."
He was no longer surprised that Miss Joey recognized him.
In fact, he had grown accustomed to her requests for autographs and photos.
He suspected that the Joey family probably had a group chat for their close-knit family.
"Miss Joey, I'll leave Gramps in your care."
As this was Gramps' first attempt at Mega Evolution, despite his assurance of feeling well, Jinghe decided to bring him in for a quick check-up.
Moreover, he preferred staying at the Pokemon Center" over Dr. Bradano's research institute.
Not for any particular reason, but he feared that the Pokemon at the institute might experience something terrifying the next morning.
"Alright," Miss Joey said, leading Gramps into an examination machine.
"Almost~" the Almost Doll chirped, handing Jinghe a cup of coffee.
"Thank you," Jinghe said gratefully.
"Teacher Jinghe, are you here in Kalos to challenge the Kalos League?" Miss Joey asked unexpectedly.
"Oh, no. I'm here for the Ice Sculpture Contest," Jinghe replied, feeling a bit awkward.
He wasn't Ash, running around challenging every League and starting his Pokemon journey from scratch.
"So, it's the Snow Mapping City Ice Sculpture Contest."
The two chatted casually as a nearby TV broadcasted the news.
Fladarius, representing the Fladry Institute, dressed in black and accompanied by a robust Flame Lion, announced to the interviewing reporter:
"The Fladry Institute's latest achievement, the Holographic Communicator, will soon be unveiled to the public."
The interviewer was none other than Pachila, a Four Heavenly King of Kalos and a news anchor.
"Mr. Fladarius has changed a lot, but he's a kind person," Miss Joey remarked.
As a Pokemon Center nurse, she had witnessed Fladarius' acts of charity towards the less fortunate and Pokemon in need.
Kind? Jinghe smiled but remained silent.
The change wasn't limited to just his appearance.
However, Miss Joey's words resonated with Jinghe.
Fladarius' extreme transformation stemmed from people taking his help for granted, expecting more even after receiving aid.
These individuals had shown Fladarius the uglier side of the world.
Yet, it was undeniable that many others, and countless Pokemon, genuinely appreciated and admired him.
Miss Joey, for instance, was one such person.
Fladarius, however, had retreated into a self-constructed mindset, influenced by a unique form of survivor bias.
Perhaps, when facing Fladarius in the future, this could be a valuable entry point.
"The Holographic Communicator?" Jinghe muttered to himself.
He recalled that the unveiling of the Holographic Communicator by the Fladry Institute signaled Fladarius' readiness to deploy his "ultimate weapon."
"Teacher Jinghe, the check-up is done," Miss Joey interrupted Jinghe's thoughts.
She smiled and continued, "Gramps is in excellent condition. Its stats far surpass any Gramps data in our system."
Her eyes held a hint of astonishment.
No wonder it's Teacher Jinghe, she thought, this is the most outstanding Gramps I've ever seen.
It was beyond excellent.
"Gramps!" Gramps stood before Jinghe with his hands on his hips, as if saying, "See, I told you I'm fine."
But Miss Joey added, "However, it's a bit weak, probably due to excessive energy consumption. It's best to rest for a day."
"Alright, thank you," Jinghe said, giving Gramps a sidelong glance and expressing his gratitude to Miss Joey.
Hearing this, it was time for some rest!
"Hngga."
Genggai scratched its head.
It felt perfectly fine and had even planned to dominate the underworld of Mira City tonight.
Jinghe's expression darkened.
If you don't go, there's no such thing as the underworld.
The next day.
Jinghe woke up to the familiar licks of Genggai.
As he munched on a cherry fruit, he not only felt speechless but also somewhat surprised.
Could Mega Evolution be the shackle that restrained Genggai? It hadn't run off last night, and now it had the energy to wake him up in the morning.
"Hngga~~"
After a good night's rest, the energetic Genggai woke Jinghe up, then hovered in mid-air, crossing its legs as it browsed through the Water Scroll.
Jinghe, having finished his cherry fruit, pulled the Six-Tailed Pokemon out from under the covers and gave it a good rub before getting out of bed, satisfied.
"Ow~~"
The Six-Tailed Pokemon puffed out its cheeks, grooming its fur while grumbling softly.
"Kuu~~(-ω-) zzZ"
The Bear Apprentice hung in a bubble of snot, snoring as it did push-ups on the floor.
"Hachubo, wake up the Bear Apprentice and get ready to go out," Jinghe said as he walked into the bathroom.
"Hoo~~"
Zzzla—
A slight electric flash, and with a 'pop', the bubble burst. The Bear Apprentice, not understanding what was happening, trembled slightly and rubbed its eyes.
"Kuu?"
Where are we headed today?
Genggai put the Water Scroll into its stomach and patted the Bear Apprentice's shoulder.
"Hngga~!"
After freshening up, it was time for breakfast!
The Bear Apprentice's eyes lit up, and its body rolled back into a round, plump standing position. It clenched its fists, and its bushy eyebrows and big eyes glowed with excitement.
"Kuu~Kuu~!"
Understood! Prepare provisions before marching!
"Cha~~"
The Gigaton Smith strutted with a 'piji piji' gait, proudly presenting a brand-new pair of frameless light gold monoglasses to Jinghe.
Jinghe's eyes lit up after his morning routine.
"As expected of the Gigaton Smith."
Despite the hammer's size, it could forge such delicate and exquisite items.
The Gigaton Smith rubbed its nose.
"Cha, cha~~(≧≦)"
It's, it's fine~~
Normally, monoglasses don't have temple arms because they are worn by clamping the upper eye socket and facial muscles.
But wearing them that way is tiring.
So the Gigaton Smith made monoglasses for Jinghe with not only temple arms but also a nose bridge. The connection between the temple arms and the frame had a long, thin golden chain, a non-slip chain.
At the end of the non-slip chain was a round groove where a Keystone could be embedded, which could then be placed in an inner pocket for perfect portability.
Changing into a black casual suit, it was a perfect fit for the Kalos region.
A cane would have been a nice addition.
But holding the Six-Tailed Pokemon was more comfortable than carrying a cane, so Jinghe decided against it.
With the light gold monoglasses on, Jinghe, who already had a scholarly air as a teacher, looked even more refined.
Looking at his reflection, Jinghe muttered:
"It's the epitome of an intellectual failure."
They enjoyed breakfast at the Pokemon Center.
Jinghe left the Pokemon Center under the watchful gaze of Miss Joey, whose cheeks were slightly flushed.
Then they went to a nearby coffee shop, ordered two cups of coffee, and waited for Dr. Bradano.
When Dr. Bradano saw Jinghe's outfit, he couldn't help but pause in surprise.
He couldn't help but exclaim:
"It suits you so well, Jinghe."
After coffee.
Dr. Bradano took Jinghe to their destination for the day.
A mansion, located in the easternmost part of Mira City, or a nursery.
According to Dr. Bradano, this mansion had a long history and tradition. An elderly couple lived there, taking in stray or needy Pokemon.
Over time, it became similar to a nursery.
However, unlike other nurseries.
They didn't sell Pokemon, and most of the Pokemon they raised weren't good at battling.
But with their guidance, many Pokemon learned various life skills.
Skills like laundry, cooking, cleaning, and making coffee and desserts.
So not only in Mira City but also in many coffee shops across the Kalos region, they would come to recruit "employees" from here.
This mansion was also known as the "Coffee Estate."
It also grew many cocoa and coffee trees.
But the elderly couple had high standards for recruiters.
They wouldn't just hand over Pokemon they considered family to anyone.
Many Pokemon responsible for daily cleaning and guest reception at the Fladry Institute came from here.
Soon.
The taxi stopped outside a large mansion.
At the entrance, a Caretaker Pokemon stood obediently, waiting for them.
"Ai~~"
