Chapter 242: Sword Pavilion's Domineering Nature
Chapter 242: Sword Pavilion's Domineering Nature
Within a fragment of the Fortune Ground, Ye Guyue (Solitary Moon) stood with a furrowed brow, her gaze sweeping the desolate landscape as memories of recent humiliations surged. Her jaw clenched, hatred flickering in her eyes.
"Villain!"
Since entering the Fortune Ground, her luck had been relentlessly bad.
First, she'd been ambushed while trying to claim the Veiled Dragon Water, forced to retreat after Lv Yang and Chong Ying ganged up on her. She’d barely escaped with her life, using hidden techniques that left her severely wounded. Just as she recovered, fortune struck again—when the Fortune Ground collapsed, Chongguang cornered her at its center and stripped her of nearly all her Karmic Fortune. Helpless to resist, she’d swallowed her rage, but the bitterness still choked her.
And now, she couldn’t even vent that fury.
Sealing her lips, Ye Guyue quickly recited a mantra to steady her mind: "Calm. Let not calamity qi cloud the spirit. My heart is steel."
The secret technique helped her regain composure, but others weren’t so fortunate. Two cultivators who’d fallen into this fragment with her were already succumbing to the Calamity Qi’s influence, their tempers fraying.
A flash of light streaked toward them, followed by another.
The first radiated Treasure Light and Buddhist energy, revealing a familiar figure—Treasure-Child, the Qing Kingdom survivor who’d escaped the great slaughter.
He’d been lucky, in a way. Among the Jiangbei sects, only he and Five Phases Transmuter hailed from Jiangbei. But while the latter had pledged to Jiangdong early on and received an official post, he’d been sacrificed alongside the rest.
Treasure-Child, however, had survived by defecting to Pure Land. Without a title to his name, he’d slipped through the massacre and even ventured to the Yangilluminate Cave Realm.
His title wasn’t misplaced—his family’s ancestral treasure-hunting arts had earned him a major opportunity. During the Fortune Ground’s chaos, Lv Yang seized the Veiled Dragon Water, while Dao Court and Pure Land claimed two of the remaining three Spirit Embryos. The fourth was nearly Sword Pavilion’s prize, until Ye Guyue’s injury forced her retreat—leaving Treasure-Child to snatch it.
But as the saying goes: misfortune befalls the unwary.
A second streak of light surged behind him, crackling with Sword Qi, revealing a stern middle-aged man: Yun Zhiqiu.
"Treasure-Child, will you still defy reason?" Yun Zhiqiu demanded.
"Yun Zhiqiu!" Treasure-Child spat, his voice laced with resentment. "I’ve joined the righteous path. Does Sword Pavilion intend to rob me openly?"
"Rob? You dare call yourself righteous?" Yun Zhiqiu barked a laugh. "A Jiangbei demon-cultivator like you—turning coat is just the beginning. You’ve got a mountain of sins to repay!"
"Sins? What sins?" Treasure-Child’s voice rose. "My Treasure-Dividing Precipice never practiced blood sacrifices. As for sect battles, victories and defeats are the natural order. Before Qing Kingdom, my Karmic Fortune was pristine!"
"Your very birth in Jiangbei is sin enough!" Yun Zhiqiu’s gaze sharpened. "The world’s treasures belong to the virtuous. A demon-cultivator like you dares claim them? Hand over the Spirit Embryo—now!"
Before Treasure-Child could retort, a third presence intervened. A sword hum pierced the air as Ye Guyue descended, her blade hovering above him.
"Finished", Treasure-Child’s heart went cold, though he bowed deeply. "Greetings, Sword Pavilion’s Lady Ye."
Yun Zhiqiu greeted her respectfully: "Greetings, Junior Master Ye!"
He pointed at Treasure-Child. "This one stole the Undying Camphor, Senior. Please uphold justice."
Ye Guyue glanced at the Spirit Embryo, calculated briefly, then spoke loftily: "We’re all righteous cultivators. Infighting is folly. Since we’re trapped here, likely by the demon’s doing, we must unite against external threats. Can we not resolve this peacefully?"
Treasure-Child exhaled, reassured—until she turned to him.
"Treasure-Child", Ye Guyue said flatly, "surrender the Undying Camphor."
Her tone brooked no argument. "Junior Yun is Early Foundation Stage. He needs it for survival. You’re Mid-Stage. You can spare it."
Like hell I can!
Treasure-Child hesitated. "Senior, in Qing Kingdom, I lost most of my treasures. I need this for protection."
Ye Guyue shook her head. "You’ve pledged to the righteous path. You must embrace karmic fate. Your origins are humble—Yun is Sword Pavilion. Which life weighs heavier? Surely you see the balance."
"Without it, you’re just another minor sect disciple. If you die, so be it. But Yun’s loss could cost Sword Pavilion a life—that would be a catastrophe for the righteous path."
"For the sake of justice and the world’s survival, yield."
"If you resent it, I’ll grant you a favor—should you perish, you may reincarnate into Sword Pavilion itself."
Treasure-Child stiffened, recalling the days in Jiangbei when Holy Sect’s True Men had ambushed and looted him.
Back then, it was survival of the fittest. Now, even among the righteous, they rob me—and demand I smile while they do!
But under pressure, he could only sigh. With a flick of his sleeve, he tossed out a glowing orb—the Undying Camphor, its verdant aura pulsing with wood-element vitality, potent for forging spirit artifacts or enhancing cultivation.
Satisfied, Ye Guyue nodded. Yun Zhiqiu snatched it eagerly, infusing it with his qi to claim it.
"This place is unstable", Ye Guyue murmured, calculating again. She pointed westward. "The exit’s that way. Let’s move."
Three streaks of light pierced the horizon. Soon, a towering mountain loomed, its summit wreathed in Array Art formations anchoring the Fortune Ground fragment.
On the peak sat a figure, cross-legged and laughing.
"Ah, Lady Ye. I’ve been expecting you."
Ye Guyue’s calm shattered. Recognition struck like lightning—Lv Yang. Her eyes blazed with murder.
