Chapter 242.5: The Letter
230/602, huh…
Hmm…
Well, at least the + points of STR finally reached 300 points…
Not counting the first night, the Main of her [Whip Mastery] managed to level up 2 times while the Body leveled up 3 times. In addition to that, her [Greater Origin (Greater Chaos) Mastery] also managed to level up once.
She activated a spell.
[Greater Origin Enchant].
A dark-red lightning appeared on her hand.
[Halo].
As soon as the golden ring began to manifest on her back, the dark-red lightning crawled from her hand to her back and was being absorbed by the ring until it grew up to 4 times larger, appearing like a giant portal and illuminating the entire room.
As long as I can keep this schedule up, it won't be long until I reach 400 points on each stat…
And by then --…
She shook her head.
No…
It's not enough…
I will need at least 600 points each…
Assuming what that merchant told me is true…
If a war really comes, I'll be fine no matter what as long as my stats are 600 points each…
And if anyone, including that Undead Emperor and the Light Saint themselves, dares to bother me anything that has to deal with that war…
I'll personally slap them into oblivion...
***
A few minutes later…
My mana is now full…
Vivian deactivated [Halo] before standing up and making her way to a treasure chest at the corner. She opened it, took out her clothes and wore them, including her mask, before finally exiting the room.
As she stepped outside, she squinted her eyes due to the rays of the sun.
God, I wish I had sunglasses...
She swept her gaze around until she spotted a Guard who just stepped out of the building where the Guards lived and was still in his civilian clothing.
"You. Come here."
For a moment, the Guard had a confused look on his face and he turned around to see if there were other people around him. After confirming that Vivian was indeed talking to him, he rushed over to her and then saluted.
"Good morning, Honored Inquisitor Monad!"
"Please clean the platform. Thank you."
"Yes, Honored Inquisitor!" the Guard said and then quickly left.
By now, everyone was already aware of Vivian's schedule so they weren't surprised to see her coming out of her training room this early. They also weren't surprised by the bloody mess every time she stepped out of it.
Vivian turned around and made her way back to the building where the Priests lived.
Should I train my Class Magic today…?
I still don't want to move that much though…
***
10:37 a.m.
Zzz…
Zzz…
Vivian lying down on a sofa inside her office fast asleep with a blanket wrapped over her body. Although it was the rainy season and was usually cold, she still kept the temperature inside her room cold with the use of the Magic Panel. And as for the sofa she was lying on, it was one of the things she bought at Fredo Village.
She was still wearing her Inquisitor Full-Mask but had her White Cloak hanging on the side of the room, her gloves were on top of a coffee table that she bought and her boots were beside her. She thought about wearing sandals inside her office but found out too tacky for her "beauty" and position as an Inquisitor.
Despite her period slowing down, she still wasn't in the mood to move around that much so she decided to take another break from training her Class Magic. And since it was rare for her to get called and no one would dare to disturb her unless it was necessary, she decided to take a nap inside her office.
Knock.
Knock.
Vivian heard a knock on her office door and her eyes immediately opened behind her mask. She begrudgingly moved the blanket away from her body and got up.
"Enter..." she said and let out a small yawn
The door opened and it was Finley.
"I'm sorry!" he suddenly said and then looked away.
The sofa was positioned at the corner beside a wall near a window somewhat facing the door and Vivian was wearing a dark blue short and fitting long-sleeved backless turtleneck dress so her bare white and flawless legs were in full view. So if he were to crouch down, he would be able to see what was between her legs.
Realizing why Finley reacted in such a way, Vivian quickly grabbed the blanket and covered her legs.
"What business do you have for me, brother?"
Finley cleared his throat and then hesitantly returned his gaze towards her for a moment before finally realizing it was safe.
"A brother from the Air Division has arrived and is carrying a letter from the Inquisitory Division for you."
"From the Inquisitory Division?"
Vivian immediately tried to recall what mistakes she made that would result in the Inquisitory Division sending her a letter.
I won't be receiving any letter until the end of my contract aside from the Inquistory Division itself…
I still have until the end of the week to compile all the reports from the personnel and my report before I send it to the Fifth Inner Stanza Border Checkpoint…
So what is this for…?
Did that Basilio rat me out…?
Or was it Lamont…?
"I see. Where is he now?"
"He's waiting at the main office hall."
"Please give me a moment to prepare."
"Of course, Sister Inquisitor," Finley said and then closed the door.
***
A few moments later…
Vivian opened the door of her office and then headed over to the shared office space.
That must be him…
A man in his early 30s with short black hair and wearing a Crusader Armor was having a chat with Anthony.
"I didn't know you were in the Holy Crusade this year. I would've sent you a letter," Anthony said.
A grin appeared on the Crusader’s face.
"My original plan was to dedicate myself to training this year. But I unexpectedly reached Adamantite back in Mayus which was way ahead of schedule. I was expecting to reach it in Octus or later this year. It really came unexpected."
Anthony's eyes widened.
"Wow! Congratulations, brother!"
Pah.
The Crusader landed a soft jab on Anthony's shoulder.
"You're younger than me but you've already reached Adamantite."
Both men have 2 Magic Art Affinities. However, when it comes to age, Anthony was in his late 20s while the Crusader was in his early 30s.
Anthony shook his head.
"I'm part of the Infantry Division. I have no choice but to train harder if I want to be useful and survive in Field Missions. But ever since I've been assigned here, I will admit, I haven't been able to train properly."
"Well, this is the Inner Stanza, after all. There's not that much action to see, just like the place I'm currently assigned, but mine's livelier."
"Where are you assigned, by the way?"
The two men then noticed Vivian approaching and the Priest immediately grabbed a small box sealed with a special tape on top of a table before turning over to her.
He saluted.
"I am Brother Lieutenant Janis of the Air Division assigned at the Holy City and I came here to deliver a letter from the Inquisitory Division for Sister Inquisitor Monad of the Third Inner Stanza Border Checkpoint."
Vivian saluted back.
"I am Sister Inquisitor Monad of the Third Inner Stanza Border Checkpoint."
Janis handed over the small box to Vivian and she gave it a quick inspection.
So far it looks like the tape hasn't been tampered with…
She then noticed that Janis didn't go away and was still standing in front of her.
"Is there anything else, brother?"
"My orders were to wait for your reply. Once you've given your reply, I will immediately head back to the Holy City."
"Ah… I see. Please wait for a moment."
Vivian went back to her office and opened the package.
Inside the package was a single envelope stamped with an Inquisitor's seal.
"Inquisitor Pen…?"
Vivian tried to recall if she knew anyone by that name. After racking her brain for a minute, she finally gave up.
Nope…
Doesn't ring a bell...
She ripped the envelope and took out the letter. And as she read the content, her brows started to slowly knit together little by little until she was finally done reading it.
I am to head to the Inquisitory Division Headquarters in Holy City by tomorrow for an escort Field Mission…?
Escort…?
I don't think they're referring to sex work…
That would be straight-up sexual harassment…
So a bodyguard type of mission...
But what kind of escort mission…?
Am I doing the escort…?
Or am I the one to be escorted…?
She tried to recall the rules involving Field Missions.
As far as I know…
An Inquisitor has to at least be a High Sergeant to become eligible to participate in Field Missions near their assigned station…
Meanwhile, only Inquisitors with the rank of at least a Lieutenant can participate in Field Missions far away from their assigned station…
So what's going on here...?
On top of that, what about my work here…?
I'm busy, you know...
Furthermore, assuming that I'm going to be escorting someone, why me…?
I mean, I'm an Inquisitor, not the Infantry…
We don't do bodyguard tasks…
We do investigative tasks…
Hmm...
Perhaps I'm the one who's going to be escorted…?
But why…?
What did I do to garner such treatment…?
I mean, my scores weren't that bad during the Training Course...
But I don't think I'm that's enough…
By the end of the day, I'm still a rookie Crusader...
Wait...!
Does this have anything to do with me having 4 Magic Arts...?
But if that were the case...
Why are they bothering me...?
I have the recommendation letter and medal...
Anyhow, assuming that I'm the one who's going to be escorted, what am I going to investigate…?
She tried to reread the letter in case she missed something. She even checked the back and the insides of the interior of the envelope.
There's nothing…
Tch.
She clicked her tongue.
Motherfucker...
Just when I finally managed to build a proper training facility for myself…
Fuck this, man…
I really don't want to do this…
Wait…!
Can I reject this under the premise that I'm on my per--…?
She shook her head.
I can't skip it…
But I can't delay it…
"Fuck…!"
She grabbed a pen and a piece of paper, and then began writing.
The letter she wrote stated that she wouldn't be able to travel tomorrow because she was in her period and was suffering from extreme cramps. On top of that, she still had the end-of-the-month monthly reports to submit to the Fifth Inner Stanza Border Checkpoint. So with all of that, she would need a few days.
Whether this was a smart move or not, she didn't care.
It's not like I'm serious about making a career in the Holy Crusade...
This is just a cover while I learn about this world and grow in secret...
And once I become powerful, I'll be the one making the rules...
I'll shape this world however I see fit...
And no one can say or do anything about it...
She rolled her eyes.
"In the meantime, I'm a woman. I'll sue them for gender discrimination if they force me to travel while I'm on my period."
