Chapter 241: The Times Will Give Us the Answer
Chapter 241: The Times Will Give Us the Answer
The violent impact left the Marines and pirates fighting on the ice and at the edges with not even a moment to despair before they were engulfed by the shockwaves and brilliant light.
Dazed, they blinked and found themselves staring at a red-haired pirate standing before them, sword in hand.
All of Marinford had vanished, leaving behind only a hollow circle on the water's surface, within which raging waves surged.
Perched at the edge of this void, Sengoku braced himself with one hand, clearly using his ability to withstand the aftermath of the explosion.
Garp stretched out his arms, also using his Haki to defend against the blast, but the force was so immense that it blew them away, and they could only protect this fringe area.
Fortunately, most of the fighting Marines had been at the edges, chasing after the pirates, and had made it onto the ice. Their conscious resistance to the impact meant that not many were affected by the blast.
Aside from them, the three Marine Admirals, the Commodore, and the Whitebeard Pirates' squad captains were all using Haki to withstand the shockwaves, which was why a small part of Marinford still remained.
Of course, this included Teach.
Teach stood on the other side, the air in front of him shattered by his fist, the vibrations countering the explosion's aftermath. His companions were also unaffected, though their faces were grave.
"Ahahaha," Teach wiped the sweat from his head and laughed nervously. "Is it really that powerful? Is that the MOMO MOMO no Mi, the World Destroyer?"
Sometimes, Teach and Sag had opposite reactions.
Sag, despite being from Ohara, was illiterate and had no interest in history.
Teach, on the other hand, could read and write and had a keen interest in history. He often researched these topics and had even read the Devil Fruit Guidebook, so he knew about many Devil Fruit abilities.
Only the 'World Destroyer', Bondi Waarde, who had once wreaked havoc on the world, could have achieved such sudden acceleration and amplification.
But was it really that powerful? It was just a cannonball! In terms of destructive power, it wasn't much different from the vibration ability he had acquired.
His ability was supposed to be the most powerful in terms of destruction!
Buggy was blown away by the impact, rolling all the way to the ice and nearly falling into the sea. He had been lucky to be behind Kizaru, who had blocked the shockwave with his Haki. Even so, he was left dazed and disoriented.
As he fell, the Den Den Mushi slipped from the hands of his subordinates, now aimed at the spot where Marinford had once stood, allowing those watching the live broadcast to witness this scene.
If Teach's vibration ability had filled them with despair, then the destruction of Marinford left them speechless, unable to utter a word.
The symbol of justice had vanished.
Boom!
A bolt of lightning descended from the dark clouds hanging over the screen, striking the sea. The gale-force winds tousled everyone's hair and clothes, and the heavy rain that fell from the sky caused the water in the center to splash.
After a long period of gloom, the storm finally unleashed its fury.
And along with this storm descended Sag, falling from the cloud layer, bit by bit.
He was enveloped in a black flame that stood out starkly against the dark sky, like a flame of destruction, a black sun.
"Ahahahaha!"
Sag's legs were crossed, one in front of the other, and his arms were spread out from his waist, a boisterous laugh escaping his lips. "World, behold my power! Whooahahahaha!"
Shabondy.
The members of the Disaster Pirates looked up at Sag as he descended from the heavens, a smile on the faces of the old crew.
Ulqi and Stanzen, the newcomers, wore expressions of shock.
"Is this even possible... It's like a disaster falling from the sky, like a demon king," Ulqi murmured.
"The stronger he is, the more advantageous it is for us," Hawkins said as he drew a tarot card. "This time, we win."
...
Whoosh!
Sag descended from the clouds, his foot pushing off the air as he appeared in an afterimage in front of Teach.
The explosive shockwaves had even affected him, forcing him to ascend a little higher and use his Haki to shield himself from the vibrations, lest he be blown away to who knows where.
"Ahahahaha, you're quite the show-off, Sag!"
Teach grinned. "Looks like our collaboration in the New World will be quite enjoyable!"
"Whooahahahaha, you've earned the right, Teach. See you in the New World!" Sag laughed heartily.
"Sag!"
The Great Buddha, glowing with golden light, rushed out angrily, its palm carrying an intense impact as it struck out, "What have you done?!?"
Boom!
Teach cackled, his fist shooting out, the vibration and impact colliding once more, causing the edge of the land to crack and chunks of stone to fall into the sea.
After the intense collision, Zhan Guoli immediately retracted his palm and took several steps back, his face a picture of indecision.
Only then did Sag turn to look, a smile on his face as he said, "Didn't I say? Destroy Marinford. You yourself said that the fortress is gone, but the foundation of the island still stands. Just add some more stones to rebuild it."
The amplified power was indeed immense, but Sag had not reached the point of destroying the entire foundation of the sea; he had only flattened the exposed island. Reconstruction would not be difficult.
But this had little to do with him; regardless, his purpose had been achieved.
He flexed his body, a sinister smile on his face as he said, "Do you want to continue fighting? I see your battle intent is rather mediocre, but if you insist, I am more than willing to accompany you."
"Hahahaha, that's what I want to do too!"
Laughter boomed from Teach as he said, "If we take down the Marine Marshal and the Navy's hero, our reputation will soar even further!"
"You two pirates, do not insult justice so lightly!"
Sengoku took a deep breath, the brilliant golden light around him growing even brighter as he prepared to unleash his power; he could not let these pirates continue to run amok here!
Beneath the Great Buddha, Garp gathered his Haki in his hand, his eyes fixed intently on Sag, "Sag, you've gone too far!"
"Hehehe, I am a pirate; there's no such thing as going too far." Sag laughed heartily.
"Stop this at once!"
Just as they were about to clash, a voice rang out across the edge of the battlefield.
It wasn't just Sengoku who took action after the violent explosion; the Marines also reacted, thinking that with Marinford gone, the pirates had nowhere to escape, and this was their chance to pursue them.
Their goal was to take down the Whitebeard Pirates here, even if it meant enduring that intense explosion!
The battle had reached a fever pitch, and everyone was fighting with bloodshot eyes! On the remaining ice and the edge of the land where they had landed, Marines and pirates clashed, their severely wounded falling with nowhere to treat their injuries. All they could think about now was how to kill their opponents and escape, or how to fall after taking their enemies down.
The emotions of sorrow and excitement were spreading, leading to a pink-haired young man standing before Akainu, tears streaming down his face as he shouted.
"Stop fighting! Whitebeard is dead; our goal is achieved, the war is over! Many Marines need treatment; stop this pointless battle, Marinford is gone, continuing will only result in more casualties!"
The pink-haired Marine shouted at Akainu, his voice filled with emotion.
"And who are you?"
Akainu glared down at the pink-haired youth, lava erupting from his clenched fist as he prepared to strike, "The Marines have no place for those who disobey orders!"
However, that fist, clearly about to strike, was stopped.
Just then, Sag noticed a one-armed man step forward from behind Akainu, his sword drawn, blocking Akainu's lava fist.
Red hair, a scar at the corner of his eye, and an overwhelming aura—one of the Yonko, Red Hair!
"What are you doing here, Red Hair?" Akainu's voice was low and menacing.
"To stop this war!"
Shanks parried Akainu's lava strike with his sword 'Griffin', then slashed it to the side, his crew jumping down from the ship behind him.
"Enough chaos; if you still want to fight, then let it be against us!"
An incredibly powerful aura of a Conqueror surged, causing everyone present to shudder.
Marinford was gone, and they barely had any ground left to stand on; did they still want to fight a Yonko here?
"So it's you," Shanks fixed his gaze on Sag, his voice calm. "I've heard of you, Norton Sag, the 'Disaster'."
"Hehe, you seem quite confident. I don't mind a fight with you, though."
Sag chuckled, then turned to Sengoku, "But...never mind, my goal is achieved anyway."
He wasn't afraid, but he wasn't foolish either.
Sengoku had clearly set his sights on him, and if he continued to fight Red Hair here, the Marines and pirates would shift their focus to him.
One strong opponent was manageable, but things would get tricky if more joined the fray.
What? Teach?
This guy was a real schemer; while they were cooperating, Teach had no intention of truly fighting alongside him.
After all, neither Teach nor Sag had their sights set on this place.
"And what about you, Teach?" Shanks turned to Teach, his voice grave.
"Hahahaha, it's not the best time to continue fighting the Marines now; even Sag isn't interested, and I'm not in the mood to fight you."
He pointed at Shanks, a mischievous grin on his face, "That scar suits you well, though.
Shanks instinctively tightened his grip on his sword hilt, his expression turning grim, but he remained still and directed his gaze toward Sengoku.
After a moment of silence, Sengoku spoke in a deep voice, "Alright, our objective has been achieved. Let's call it quits."
Indeed, they couldn't continue fighting, as they had already lost their ground.
Especially with Sag and Teach, one capable of enlargement and the other of vibration, both possessing incredibly destructive abilities! This was why Sengoku had attacked and then immediately retracted afterward.
If they continued like this, even the edge of the land would be lost, and the ice would shatter.
By then, they would have nowhere left to stand.
The Navy, for the most part, was still intact, with many standing on the ice. If the battle persisted, that might no longer be the case.
Even if they won, losing ten thousand Navy soldiers would be no different from losing the battle itself.
Pirates only thought about whether to fight or not, unlike Sengoku, the Navy Marshal, who had to consider casualties, the richness of the fruits of victory, and whether he could report success.
After Whitebeard's death, Sengoku had already wanted to call off the battle. If not for Teach and Sag's meddling, it might have ended then and there, instead of the current situation where Marineford had been completely destroyed.
Now, they had preserved the fruits of victory to the greatest extent possible!
"The war... is over!"
Sengoku took a deep breath and shouted to those around him.
The Navy's cessation of hostilities also gave the pirates a chance to escape, boarding the remaining intact ships and sailing out to sea.
"Sag, do you want to come with me?"
Teach grinned and reached out his hand toward Sag.
"No thanks, you don't even have a ship. You should figure out how to get one yourself. I have a place to go."
Sage thrust himself off the ground, imbuing his dominance into the rocks, causing the earth to crack and expose a stone column. He booted the pillar, propelling it forward, then seized it and flung it towards Shambody.
"We'll meet again in the New World, Teach!"
Whoosh!
As the stone pillar was thrown, it instantly enlarged and accelerated, and Sag himself accelerated as well, jumping onto the pillar and flying away.
As he reached the high skies, Sag looked down at the people below, his gaze locking with Akainu's for a moment before shifting to the red-haired Shanks.
"That Conqueror's Haki is quite impressive. Don't worry, we'll have our battle sooner or later!"
A sinister smile curved Sag's lips as he vanished from the skies over Marineford, taking the pouring rain and storm with him.
"Hehehe, what a convenient ability. Alright, Evil Wolf, let's go!"
Teach watched as Sag disappeared into the distance, laughing for a while before turning to find San Juan Wolf.
They didn't have a ship, but with their massive size, they could walk in shallow waters.
"Damn that Sag!"
Sengoku returned to his normal size and shouted, "Everyone, set sail for Shambody! Take the wounded there for treatment!"
Marineford was gone, along with all its resources, and they didn't have someone like Marco, the 'Phoenix,' who could heal even severe wounds with his mythical zoan-type ability. Everyone had to go to Shambody.
Along the way, many would surely succumb to their injuries and die.
The losses were far greater than expected!
But he had no choice when it came to Sag.
At least Blackbeard knew to run away, but Sag wouldn't.
That guy still had a Celestial Dragon in his hands!
Executing a Celestial Dragon in front of the world would have a significant impact, perhaps even more so than killing Whitebeard.
After more than thirty years,
finally, a pirate dared to lay hands on a Celestial Dragon!
The death of the pirate who most represented the old era signaled the entrance into a new chapter.
But...
Sengoku clenched his fists tightly but eventually sighed.
Each era had its tasks.
He was already old.
Sengoku turned his head to look at Whitebeard's body, which still stood tall. He remained silent for a long time.
He had not only preserved this edge of the land but had also stood in front of Whitebeard during the explosion, preventing his body from disappearing.
They were arch-nemeses.
Before Whitebeard became the Pirate King, and before Sengoku became the Navy Marshal, it was Sengoku who pursued Whitebeard on the high seas.
War was war, but Sengoku still held respect for his arch-nemesis.
"Newgate, your death may bring about greater chaos, but I have no regrets. Our era should have ended long ago."
As for whether the death of the Celestial Dragon was a good or bad thing, he couldn't tell anymore.
"But the times will give us the answer," Sengoku muttered, lifting his head.
