Chapter 241: Legendary-Level Equipment
Chapter 241: Legendary-Level Equipment
25th September 2017
After a busy night, Lu HaiKong awoke the next day to yet another letter delivered by a Shadow Guard during the night.
"How many letters has it been in just a few days? This Wang Hao is something else," Lu HaiKong sighed as he burned the letter from Wang Jun.
Since Lu HaiKong and Wang Jun established contact, Wang Jun has been sending a letter almost every day. The letters didn't contain much content, but they were filled with detailed accounts of Xi Zhong's daily life.
Wang Jun had an interesting way of praising others. He never used vague words but instead provided Lu HaiKong with meticulous details of Xi Zhong's actions over the past few days, explaining what Xi Zhong did, how he did it, and why, as well as the benefits of his actions. Through these facts, Wang Jun conveyed to Lu HaiKong just how capable a person Xi Zhong truly was.
On more than one occasion, Wang Jun hinted to Lu HaiKong that if Xi Zhong were to assume his current position, the development of the fort would likely be even better than it is now. Even if Xi Zhong didn't take over Wang Hao's position, having him share the workload would be immensely beneficial for the fort.
There was an underlying message in his words: If you don't come back soon, and if I lose this talented person, I'll drop this responsibility and leave the fort to you.
Lu HaiKong could sense Wang Jun's frustration through the letters, but there was nothing he could do. He couldn't leave at this time, even though Wang Jun's repeated letters piqued Lu HaiKong's curiosity about this seemingly unknown Xi Zhong.
"My lord, should I reply to Lord Wang Jun?" Ma Pian asked after seeing Lu HaiKong read the letter without any further action. Usually, Lu HaiKong would respond to Wang Jun's letters.
"No need. After the martial match, if everything goes well, we can return. Let's leave this fatty be for a few days."
Just as Ma Pian was about to respond, he suddenly sensed something and turned to walk away, disappearing into the tent. At that moment, footsteps approached, and Uyun Qiqige lifted the tent flap and entered.
Today, Uyun Qiqige wore a vibrant green martial outfit, her long black hair casually tied back with a grass rope. A curved blade hung at her waist, giving her a commanding and refreshing appearance.
"The martial match begins at noon today. There aren't many qualified participants, and including you, there are only eight people—the recognized strongest from the seven nearby tribes. Are you ready?"
Lu HaiKong admired the energetic and powerful young woman, taking quite some time before he finally averted his gaze. "I'm almost prepared. I just need a weapon; I didn't bring one with me."
"A weapon? What kind of weapon do you need?" Qiqige ignored Lu HaiKong's gaze.
Lu HaiKong had considered asking Ma Pian to send over the Ghost Mask Axe, but he quickly dismissed the idea. The Ghost Mask Axe wasn't something easily portable like a letter, herb, or book. While it might not be difficult to bring in the heavy weapon, weighing several dozen pounds, Lu HaiKong knew that using it would be like openly declaring he had issues.
"An axe, a massive battle axe. Do you have one?"
"An axe?" Qiqige furrowed her brows. "I'll have someone look for one."
Lu HaiKong didn't hold out much hope, as ornate great axes like the Xuan Hua Da Fu were extremely rare among the Han people, and it wouldn't be easy to obtain one from a Hun tribe.
To Lu HaiKong's surprise, after Qiqige left for a while, she returned with a maid by her side carrying an axe.
"You really found one? Where did you get it?"
Lu HaiKong was startled and walked over, picking up the axe with one hand.
"This axe is quite heavy, at least a hundred jin or more," Lu HaiKong frowned as he lifted it, finding it unsuitable for prolonged combat.
"This is the only one I could find. If you don't like it, you can fight bare-handed," Qi Qi Ge said with dissatisfaction at Lu HaiKong's pickiness.
"No, I meant..." Lu HaiKong paused, something felt off. This axe didn't seem ordinary at all, so he instinctively appraised it.
Mang Huang Fu (Wilderness Axe)
Quality: Legendary
Effect: Not Activated
Requirements: ???
This was the first time Lu HaiKong had seen question marks on an item after appraising it, leaving no doubt that this axe was extraordinary.
Lu HaiKong took a closer look and noticed that not only was the material unique, but the axe also had layer upon layer of faint runes, giving it an ancient and mysterious air.
The more Lu HaiKong examined it, the more he liked it, and a smile crept onto his face, "I really like this axe!"
"Hmph, such a fickle man!" Uyun Qiqige huffed, turning away with a slight smile on her lips.
"I have something to do, I'll take my leave. Later, they'll take you to the martial arts arena. As my man, I only have one demand: victory!"
Without waiting for Lu HaiKong's protest about her use of the word 'man', Uyun Qiqige strode away with a haughty gait.
