Chapter 241: Awakening (Part 2)
"I’ve finally awakened."
Kai Xiusu slowly opened his eyes, a wisp of blue smoke curling from the corners of his mouth. A power unlike anything he’d ever known surged through his body, and instinctively, he stretched his wings with a soft, reverent motion.
"Damn it… What year is it now?"
The Red Dragon wasn’t sure. Time had blurred in his dream—centuries, perhaps millennia—where he had lived through endless wars, witnessed the rise and fall of dragonkind, their glory fading into ruin. But those memories, vivid as they were, now felt veiled in a hazy, dreamlike shroud, fading the moment his eyes opened. The disorientation was dizzying.
"If it’s been decades… that would be disastrous."
Kai Xiusu swept his gaze across the cavern. The once-familiar stone chamber was now a landscape of molten lava, rivers of magma flowing like liquid fire. Even the gold coins had been melted and reshaped into flowing streams, their original forms long erased—no trace of time remained.
He let out a low, resonant roar and summoned the Heaven’s Judgment Dragon Eye. With its piercing gaze, he scanned his surroundings and assessed the state of the Kingdom Domain.
Thankfully, his vast vision revealed Northwind Keep still thriving—people bustling through the streets, life pulsing through the city. The realm had changed, yes, but not to the extent of decades, let alone centuries. Yet it was the transformation of his own Dragon Body that left him stunned.
"This… is impossible."
Compared to his form before the Deep Sleep, the change was absolute—so profound that even he felt alien to his own reflection.
His body had swelled to nearly thirty meters in length—size befitting an ancient, even a super-ancient Red Dragon, creatures who had lived for over five hundred years. And Kai Xiusu had achieved this in just ten.
His scales had darkened to a deeper crimson, their once-glossy texture replaced by a smooth, non-reflective surface. Only at the edges did faint, dark gold patterns remain—like forged armor grown from within.
His wings had widened further, their trailing edges now edged with a blue-black metallic sheen, as if forged in flame.
His tail had thickened, its tip crowned with sharp, bony spines—like a battering ram.
But these were mere details.
The true metamorphosis lay in his head and chest.
His golden irises had faded, now glowing like molten lava orbs, radiating intense flame-light. And atop his skull, beyond the retracted horns, new spiraling, demonic curves had erupted—twisted, wicked, like the horns of a primordial demon.
At the center of his chest, where countless basal vessels converged, a crimson crystal of near-perfect purity—forged from concentrated Fire Element—was embedded deep within his flesh. It pulsed with waves of lava-like ripples. Around it, the scales cracked outward in radial fissures, glowing fiercely from within.
The energy trapped within was immense, focused, and relentless—constantly heating the surrounding tissue. To vent the excess, two rows of porous, organ-like structures had grown along his chest, neck, and tail, continuously releasing sulfur fumes and dissipating heat.
If Kai Xiusu before the Deep Sleep had been a pure-blooded Red Dragon, then the being now standing was no longer of any natural kind. He had transcended the bounds of the Five-Colored Dragons entirely. If a dragon scholar were present, they would have fallen to their knees in awe.
"This form… it’s like the embodiment of true Cataclysm."
Kai Xiusu shook his body, still adjusting to its new, alien strength. He slowly unfurled his wings, feeling the tide of power surge through him like a stormy sea. In his molten lava eyes, anticipation burned.
"Let me see… just what this strength truly is."
> [After your Deep Sleep, you have digested the 【Faint Ancestral Dragon Blood】. Your body has undergone Evolution.]
> [Dragons are naturally powerful magical beings, innately attuned to multiple supernatural phenomena. And among them, Aio’s most beloved offspring are the most gifted.]
> [You have gained Additional Spellcasting Levels: 3 → 5]
> [Your Race Spellcasting Level now stacks with Sorcerer Spellcasting Level. Your current Spellcasting Level is: 17]
This level of spellcasting ability was enough to barely reach the Ninth Layer of the Weave of Magic—almost brushing against the Root of Magic. Beyond that lay forbidden realms, untouched by mortal minds.
Kai Xiusu felt the shift deep in his bones. The Eighth-Level spell he once approached with caution—【Magic Wastage】—now lay fully under his control, as effortless as moving his own limbs. Even low- and mid-level spells could no longer threaten him.
"At this level, I could walk through Anzeta like a god."
With just a glance at a massive stone pillar in the distance, he altered his will—and in an instant, the pillar melted through its center, split open by a torrent of liquid magma. It was a simple sorcerer’s spell, effortless, requiring no second thought.
But the character sheet wasn’t done. New data kept scrolling.
> [Due to your Ancient Dragon Bloodline, you gain the Dragon Extra Feat—【Primordial Breath Weapon】]
> 【Primordial Breath Weapon】:
> Once per day, the dragon channels the strength of its Ancestral Bloodline, gathering all its energy into the Dragon Crystal. A violent fission reaction occurs within, unleashing an incomprehensible torrent of power. After each use, a byproduct forms within the crystal—potentially causing irreversible contamination to the dragon’s body.
> Requires 125–375 seconds of Charging Time.
> The dragon must not have used a Breath Weapon in the past three hours.
> After this attack, the dragon cannot use its breath again for at least three full days.
"Powerful… breath."
"Call it ‘Primordial Breath’—but ‘Primordial Bullet’ would be more accurate. The aftermath is… heavy."
Kai Xiusu didn’t test the dangerous technique. Instead, he opted for a standard breath.
He slowly opened his lower jaw. His body, a complex machine of veins and energy channels, roared to life. Energy surged through the dense network of basal vessels, funneling toward the crystal embedded in his chest. The translucent gem flared with blinding flame-light.
Simultaneously, the two rows of porous organs burst open, releasing brilliant flame trails and thick white smoke.
At last, the concentrated energy reached his throat—and a searing, blinding white flame erupted, instantly melting the rock before him.
Had he not snapped his jaws shut in time, the fire would have pierced through the bedrock, collapsing the entire cavern.
"Damn… almost as powerful as my Extreme Breath before the Deep Sleep."
"A single trace of ancestral blood, and this is what it can do. What must the ancient dragons have been like?"
He exhaled, marveling at the raw force now coursing through him. His dragon heart beat like a furnace in motion—his vitality now beyond anything mortal could comprehend. The gap between him and any mortal being was no longer linear—it was geometric.
Simply put, this Red Dragon had crossed the threshold that mortals could only dream of. His Life Tier had ascended to the legendary—what humans called 【Legendary】.
"Security work was decent."
With a soft beat of his wings, a ripple of invisible force swept across the cavern, effortlessly dissolving the dozens of spells guarding the entrance.
He stepped forward, walking out of the cave and into the Iron Dragon Wing Palace.
The place was in ruins—overcome by the unintended disaster of his slumber. Molten steel, once shaped into grand structures, now lay scattered and cooled into jagged, uneven masses. It had a chaotic beauty, but to the now-huge Red Dragon, even the palace felt cramped.
The metallic gate was gone—only a jagged, broken frame remained.
The dragon lowered his head, crouched his body, and folded his wings tightly—just barely squeezing through the wreckage.
He emerged from what had once been the majestic main palace of the Iron Dragon Wing.
Kai Xiusu shook himself, stretched his neck, and rose onto his hind legs. With a deep, triumphant roar, he finally unfurled his wings—wide, free, no longer restrained by walls or space.
He tilted his head toward the clear sky, squinting. In his molten lava eyes, flame-light danced.
"I think I smell… something familiar."
