Chapter 24: Triggering the Main Quest - The Saintess of Orlan City
Chapter 24: Triggering the Main Quest - The Saintess of Orlan City
"Tsk, tsk, the magic-based monsters in the newbie village are even easier than the physical ones." Su Yu shook his head.
In reality, every Fireball cast by Baron Wilson would have instantly killed Su Yu if it had hit. Unfortunately for the baron, his spells never connected, making him seem rather incompetent.
Su Yu stepped forward and rummaged through Baron Wilson's corpse.
As a quest boss, Baron Wilson didn't have a "first kill" reward, so he only dropped two items:
- Moonlight Boots (Level 8, Excellent)
- Fireball Scroll (Common)
Although the drops were fewer, both items were useful to Su Yu.
He could learn the Fireball spell immediately, but he would need to reach Level 8 to equip the Moonlight Boots.
After picking up the scroll, Su Yu chose to learn the Fireball spell and spent 1,100 Psychic Coins to upgrade it to Rare quality.
Fireball (Rare): Releases a fireball to attack the target, dealing 360% of the caster's spell power as fire damage, with a 40% chance to inflict the target with the Burning status. Cast time: 0.5 seconds. Mana cost: 15 points.
Burning: Takes 15 fire damage per second for 4 seconds.
In terms of single-target damage, Fireball is comparable to Lightning Arrow. However, against high-health bosses, the Burning status from Fireball can deal more damage over time. For now, though, Su Yu found Lightning Arrow more practical since he was mostly dealing with one-shot kills.
...
After learning Fireball, Su Yu stepped out of the baron's study.
Tina was waiting anxiously outside the door.
She had heard the sound of spells colliding inside and knew the battle was over. However, she didn't dare to check and could only stand there, nervously fidgeting with the hem of her dress.
Seeing Su Yu emerge unharmed, Tina let out a long sigh of relief and patted her chest. "Praise the gods, you're alive, Su Yu! What a relief!"
"Really? You don't want me to be alive?" Su Yu teased.
"Of course not!"
"Alright!" Su Yu ruffled Tina's hair. "Go to the Warrior's Guild and bring Quinn here. There's a lot of evidence of the baron's crimes in the estate, and she needs to come and inventory it."
"Okay!" Tina replied excitedly.
Su Yu escorted Tina out of the baron's estate.
He then returned to the second-floor study and thoroughly searched the room. With his extensive gaming experience, Su Yu easily found two crucial pieces of evidence: a letter and the baron's diary.
Since Tina hadn't returned yet, Su Yu decided to keep himself occupied by directing the estate's guards and servants to gather all the ill-gotten wealth and illegally detained women that the baron had accumulated.
Unfortunately, these items were part of the quest and couldn't be kept by Su Yu.
About half an hour later, Quinn finally arrived with a group from the Warrior's Guild.
Quinn was a high-ranking official sent by the Orlan City Warrior's Guild headquarters to gain experience in the countryside. She was fair-skinned, beautiful, and had an excellent demeanor.
In the second-floor study, Quinn stared in disbelief at the charred, long-dead body of Baron Wilson. "Adventurer, did you kill Baron Wilson?!"
Su Yu didn't speak, just nodded.
"Do you know what a huge crime it is to kill a noble?"
"Look at this first." Su Yu handed the two pieces of evidence to Quinn.
Quinn took the items and read them carefully.
The letter was a communication between the baron and the northern rebels, which he hadn't managed to destroy. This letter alone was enough to convict Baron Wilson of treason, a capital offense even for a noble, and one that could result in the execution of his entire clan!
So, not only was Su Yu not guilty of killing Baron Wilson, but he had also performed a great service to the empire!
As for the diary...
The diary detailed numerous nefarious plans the baron had for Quinn, with the level of shame and depravity making even Su Yu, a seasoned adventurer, raise an eyebrow.
After reading the diary, Quinn's face turned bright red with embarrassment.
She drew her longsword, bent down, and stabbed the already deceased baron a few more times, finally easing the anger in her heart.
"Thank you so much for your help, adventurer! I'm grateful you could rid the empire of this scum!" Quinn said solemnly.
Then, she took out two gilded medals and handed them to Su Yu. "This is your reward! Please, you must accept it!"
Su Yu's quest log updated.
"Ding! Your quest [Tina's Struggle] is complete!"
"Due to your exceptional performance, your quest rewards have been upgraded!"
"Quest Rewards: [Honorary Medal (Excellent)] x2, 1000 Experience Points."
[Honorary Medal (Excellent)]
Description: A reward granted by major guilds to those who have made outstanding contributions.
Usage: You can use this medal to exchange for a skill scroll of [Excellent] quality that matches your level and profession at the Mage Guild.
Since Su Yu had completed the entire quest in one go, the rewards for the 6th to 19th stages no longer existed. However, the final reward of [Honorary Medal] was increased from one to two.
Su Yu was very satisfied!
He smiled as he took the two [Honorary Medals] and said to Quinn, "I won't disturb you any further. I'll take my leave now!"
"Farewell, adventurer!" Quinn waved goodbye to Su Yu.
With the crimes of Baron Wilson confirmed, Su Yu was no longer needed, and the Warrior Guild could handle the aftermath.
But just as Su Yu turned to leave, a clear voice called out behind him, "Counterpart, wait!"
It was Tina.
"Tina, is there something else?" Su Yu turned around and looked at the young beauty.
"It's like this," Tina said, her face slightly flushed as she walked up to Su Yu and spoke in a shy, soft voice. "I'm going to the Warrior Guild to test my talent later. If I qualify, I'll go to Oran City with Quinn."
"Oh, and then what?"
"Could you visit me if you ever pass through Oran City? I'm alone there, with no family or friends, and I feel a bit scared."
Tina spoke softly and handed Su Yu the bill of the baron's debts as a token.
Su Yu realized at this point that there was a follow-up task involving Tina.
However, Su Yu had no intention of taking on this task.
He was about to unlock the main storyline quest, [The Glory of the Golden Rose Empire]. If his guess was correct, the quest location would be in the capital of the Golden Rose Empire—Golden Rose City.
Oran City was in the southwest of the Golden Rose Empire, over a thousand kilometers away from the capital!
Completing the main storyline was more important.
But just as Su Yu was about to politely decline, a notification rang in his head.
"Ding! You have triggered the main storyline quest [Oran City's Saintess 0/100]. Do you accept?"
Su Yu: "..."
A main storyline quest!
Another main storyline quest!
And it was the famous [Oran City's Saintess] from his previous life!
Su Yu's pupils narrowed.
"Tina, I—"
"Don't refuse me," Tina stepped forward and gave Su Yu a big hug.
During the embrace, she slipped the bill into Su Yu's shirt pocket.
"Remember to visit me!"
Tina then quickly jumped away, disappearing from Su Yu's sight like a frightened fawn.
"This..." Su Yu took the bill out of his pocket and smiled bitterly.
"It seems I don't have a choice, do I?"
"Ding! You have accepted the main storyline quest [Oran City's Saintess]. Please proceed to Oran City in the Golden Rose Empire to begin the quest."
