Chapter 24: The Terrifying Troll
Of course, this thought only flashed through Ivan's mind. If he continued to act recklessly, Snape would really deduct a large number of house points from Gryffindor.
Ivan didn't care much about this, but he wouldn't risk the reputation of the entire Gryffindor House just to earn some Academic Points.
So over the next few days, during Potions class, Ivan only engaged in some minor activities, collecting materials needed to brew a Sleeping potion, without any major actions.
This preparation continued until the eve of Halloween, and Ivan looked at his System panel, feeling quite satisfied with his progress.
Ivan * Hals
Occupation: Wizard
Spells: Fear Spell Level 2 (265/400), Levitation Charm Level 2 (97/400), Transfiguration Spell Level 2 (382/400), Splitting Spell Level 2 (84/400), Petrification Spell Level 2 (191/400), Reducing Spell Level 1 (74/200) (other spells omitted)

Magic Items: Wand (Yew, Unicorn hair, 11 and three-quarters inches)
Magic: Moderate
Affinity: 72.5%
Academic Points: 107
After nearly half a semester of effort, except for the newly learned Reducing Spell, Ivan had raised all his known spells to Level 2, significantly enhancing both their power and stability compared to Level 1.
His potion knowledge was the first to reach Level 3, while the only thing that remained unchanged was Magical Item Crafting, which Ivan had no immediate ideas for. He also saved enough Academic Points for one Experience Card, just in case.
To welcome the upcoming Halloween, the Great Hall at Hogwarts was adorned with Pumpkin lanterns, each containing Magic personally cast by Dumbledore, emitting a continuous, eerie blue light.
Peeves maliciously hid inside one of the lanterns. Whenever an unsuspecting young Wizard passed by, Peeves would suddenly emerge, scaring them, and then laugh maniacally as he darted into another lantern, leaving the young Wizard cursing in his wake.
But it had to be said that thanks to Peeves, the Halloween atmosphere was more terrifying.
At the very least, Harry and Ron felt the holiday spirit brought by Peeves. Whenever they saw the glowing Pumpkin lanterns in the castle, they instinctively tried to stay away.
"Ivan, why are you making so many Thorn spikes for no reason?"
In the Great Hall, at the Gryffindor table, Harry watched as Ivan turned pieces of wood and branches into half-ring shaped spikes, and asked curiously.
These half-ring iron thorns were quite ugly, but the long, thin spikes glinted menacingly, causing Harry to shiver involuntarily.
"Of course, it's for everyone's entertainment on Halloween." Ivan said with a smile.
"Entertainment?" Harry and Ron exchanged a glance, both having a bad feeling about it.
"Just kidding, I'm just practicing spells", Ivan waved his hand, explaining.
But his hands didn't stop moving. He waved his Wand and cast a Reducing Spell on the newly Transfigured spikes, shrinking them to several times smaller, then tossed them into a bag.
The bag immediately filled with the sound of metal clashing, and Ivan quickly put it away.
"By the way, where's Hermione?" Ivan looked around but couldn't spot the know-it-all, which made him a bit puzzled.
"Uh, well..." Ron’s face turned slightly red, and he stammered, unable to get many words out.
Finally, Harry, unable to stand it anymore, explained that Ron had been caught saying bad things about Hermione earlier today.
"I didn't say anything wrong, she is like that!" Ron blushed even more.
Ivan frowned, surprised that such an incident had occurred even with him around. After a moment of thought, he stood up, took his Wand, and walked toward the exit of the Great Hall.
"Ivan, the feast hasn't started yet, where are you going?" Harry asked.
"Of course, I'm going to find Hermione", Ivan replied, leaving only his back to Harry and Ron.
Leaving the bustling Great Hall, Ivan found a Secret Passage and quickly made his way to the abandoned girls' Bathroom, intending to persuade Hermione to leave first so she wouldn't interfere with his plans to deal with the Troll.
However, after some careful consideration, Ivan changed his plan again. He wasn't sure how long it would take to convince Hermione, and he didn't know when the Troll had been released. If they were trapped in the Bathroom together, it would be difficult to fight or even escape!
It would be better to handle the Troll at a location a bit farther from the Bathroom.
Since he had already scouted the area, Ivan quickly found a suitable corridor and dropped a few rock cakes that Hagrid had given him in the center of the corridor.
These rock cakes were soaked in a strong Sleeping Potion, with enough dosage to put several adult Wizards to sleep.
Why rock cakes?
Ivan figured that since the Troll wasn't picky and would eat anything, and the rock cakes were easy to carry, it was a good way to use them up. Otherwise, they would just sit in the dormitory and attract bugs.
Since the Half-giant Hagrid loved them so much, maybe the Troll would enjoy them too?
After making all the necessary preparations, Ivan hid in a Secret Passage near the corridor, ready to defeat the Troll with the simplest method possible. He wasn't about to risk his life by confronting it head-on with his Wand.
Life only comes once, and there are times when it's best to play it safe.
Less than a minute after Ivan was ready, he felt a slight tremor on the floor and caught a whiff of a foul odor. His expression instantly turned serious as he tensed up to the extreme—the Troll had arrived!
In the next moment, a massive twelve-foot-tall creature appeared at the other end of the corridor.
The first thing Ivan saw was a large, scaly foot. The Troll's bulky waist resembled a giant bucket made from an old, rotten tree, coated with a layer of ugly green paint. Its small head, barely larger than Ivan's, perched atop the massive body, making the whole scene look absurd and comical.
Most importantly, it held a thick wooden club that dragged on the floor, producing a sharp, grating sound.
Ivan swallowed hard, finally understanding why Dumbledore had chosen a Troll as one of the defenses for the Philosopher's Stone. The sheer size of the creature was enough to make even an adult Wizard exercise caution.
For a young Wizard who hadn't yet graduated from Hogwarts School, it was a nightmarish existence!
Ivan was relieved he hadn't chosen to confront the Troll directly. If he had been hit by the Troll's club, he might have had to cross over again.
